RIP, Walter Koenig.

My pal Danielle Koenig shared that her father Walter Koenig passed away last night at age 90. A performer whose kindness and warmth shone through the screen. He will be well remembered.

Part of my literal job is to fly out to physical game studios to rescue and recover historical materials that might be endangered and put them in a permanent archive. @gamehistoryorg.bsky.social is a 501(c)3 publicly funded to do that, my DMs are open, and I'm free for the next couple weeks...

one of the most heated discussions on X is about the ethics of a project in which a person is running Saw-like “torture” and “pain” experiments on a series of locally hosted LLMs, sparking a wildly tiresome conversation about AI consciousness and the idea of “model welfare"... time 2 log off

About 10 hours remaining as of this post. For me this game is the defining Double Fine game. Every single aspect of the game is crafted with intention; even if you're not into metal, the love that went into this game is impressive. Do yourself a favour and pick this up for free!

“It also detected an “unintended consequence” of the ban: the proportion of parents who didn’t know their child had used social media increased by 10%.” Well who could have possibly seen that happening.

Ben Schwarz@benschwarz.bsky.social

Australia’s eSafety commissioner buried a report (released Friday afternoon) that shows the under 16 social media ban didn’t tangibly reduce teen social media use, and also resulted in parents tuning out of kids usage. We traded our privacy for no reason. theconversation.com/more-than-80...

I think given the scale @godotengine.org is now at, this is an incredibly incisive approach to combat generative AI's awful impact on people, code, and communication. Also focusing the ban policy on access & pull requests is a smart way of eliminating huge parts of the problem in a practical way.

Godot Engine@godotengine.org

For years we have been overwhelmed by the volume of code contributions we have to review, especially from new contributors. AI has made the problem much worse. That's why we are taking steps to reduce the burden on maintainers while still welcoming new contributors: godotengine.org/article/cont...
