Lula: "We had to overcome foreign interference through digital platforms, which we will have to regulate. A crime in the digital world must be treated the same as a crime in the real world. We cannot have monstrous companies earning millions... not paying taxes... wanting to steer elections."

The absolute terror of car free 15 minute cities

Hackney Cyclist@hackneycyclist.bsky.social

Removing motor traffic from city centre streets creates places where people linger, relax, dine and enjoy being outside. Places where families can safely ride their bikes, people of all ages can get safely around, and where streets are dominated by people, not cars.

Usual hand-wringing about returning to division and inaction, not getting the same opt-outs etc… but arguments to rejoin trump those what-ifs. Going it alone in a world dominated by Putin, Trump and China is strategically idiotic and economically ruinous. Shaking your head at that is red-flag-dim.

George Monbiot explains why the UK should rejoin the EU, "There's a reason why Russia tried to intervene in the Brexit vote, they knew that it would harm the UK and the EU if we left" "They were very clear about that and boy have they been proved right"

For the first time, the British government has acknowledged that Russia interfered in the 2016 Brexit referendum. So who did BBC Newsnight invite on to discuss what happened? Sergei Markov, Putin’s former spokesman. Par for the course, says Nerve co-founder @carolecadwalla.bsky.social 1/

Brexit is forever tainted with disinformation, foreign interference, murky vested interests, ugly prejudice, unforgivable costs and now deep unpopularity. If you really cared about our country and wanted to fix its problems, you’d admit this… Good that Burnham is finally doing so…

Farrukh@implausibleblog.bsky.social

Andy Burnham confirms what previous PM's - May, Johnson, Truss, Sunak and Starmer - failed to, that Russia interfered in the Brexit referendum.

Fran reposted

Nigel Farage calls Andy Burnham a liar after Burnham states that there was indeed Russian interference in the Brexit referendum. He’s fully there isn’t he, Farage, actively working to undermine western democracy, Europe and the U.K. Farage is an actual traitor.

You have to scroll down to the 10.56 post in the article that is live blogging the hearing to find the poll that we now need to turn upside down. Only 473 votes so far so we absolutely can do this. Get voting.

Burnham edges Labour closer to finally, maybe, being sane about Brexit. Over 10 years, £Billions of cost, thousands of business failures, mountains of red tape, wasted resources and lost opportunities later…. our govt may, at last, cautiously, start to be honest about the Brexit moronathon. Yay.

What’s your legacy Johnson? Brexit. Total collapse of trust in politics. And this. The small boats symbolise your dishonesty and your failure. You’re responsible for nothing but damage. Not one good thing. Not one proud moment. You’re forever a shameful disgrace who threw his own mandate in the bin.

Brexit has always been an exercise in public prejudice enabling private interests. If that’s what feeds policy, it’s no wonder that what gets delivered is a shitshow. It’s muddle-headed by design because Brexiters don’t want to tell the truth about the deregulation hellscape they want from this.

The response to this call heartens me. People are shocked and appalled. Showing it’s not who we are. Letting human beings drown for the ‘crime’ of trying to find a better life has not (yet) been normalised.

I can’t believe that bloke came on and said he’d let asylum seekers drown.

My country has achieved the feat of making the most universally loved and respected charity in the land afraid for its own safety. And yet the dark pantomime of aggressive grievance and its media legitimation continues. If Hippocrates is a traitor for not cherry-picking lives, then are doctors next?

I am disgusted at how far right wing the BBC News and Politics shows are. Promoting a fascist who urged a baying crowd to assault a woman and fck all is said about it. BBC and their ‘presenters’ not journalists, presenters, are Nazi scum. I know you will name one who isn’t but they are involved.

Farage’s ludicrous minions selling what’s left of their souls for coins, while either not knowing or caring that their boss secretly trousered five million for his ‘personal use’. He makes absolute twats of everyone who trusts him. And this James Orr character is supposed to be some sort of genius…

Ugh. Farage has done nothing for Clacton except humiliate it. His idiotic by-election is basically a massive tantrum at being scrutinised over his v dodgy finances. He’s unfit for public office. He just wants power. This is all a waste of everyone’s time. He’s a loser even if he wins. (iPaper)
