Unfortunate realities: 1. Climate change impacts are here, and getting worse 2. Brexit is damaging and will continue to be so 3. Our population is aging 4. Our fertility rate is dropping 5. The US President is authoritarian, quite mad, and rapidly deteriorating

I find "people pleaser" quite an interesting category. Suspect it's something that right of center folks would use as a hammer to bash progressives - too soft/ wishywashy/niceynicey - without considering whether their own leading figures are also people pleasers, just targeting a different audience.

Luke Tryl@luketryl.bsky.social

What do voters like - and dislike - about Burnham? 19% name him communicating well, and a sense he is in touch with ordinary people. But in our pre conference polling ‘people pleaser’ comes up as the top negative attribute (18%) as well a sense he lacks a clear vision (13%).

It is fascinating watching our media choose not to highlight the glaring inconsistencies in current Tory/Reform arguments.

"Brexit has done no harm to our economy! Our economy is of course broken." "Brexit had no effect on illegal immigration! Illegal immigration has become out of control since 2020" "It's wrong to re-open Brexit scars! Let's leave the ECHR and bin our current deal with the EU"

Why are the people who accuse those talking about reversing Brexit of "living in the past" never asked about their own plans to rip up an international agreement that was first signed by the UK some 75 years ago?

Dear Jeremy "Special K" Hunt, You say Burnham should not reopen the Brexit debate. Can you have a word with Kemi Bad Enough who wants to leave the ECHR, which may cause the collapse of the post-Brexit deal with the EU and the Good Friday Agreement, threatening peace in Northern Ireland?

This report is genuinely overwhelming, in terms of the evidence both against Trump and of a ham-fisted cover-up. Including one instance in which Ghislaine Maxwell was actually about to mention one of Trump's young accusers and Todd Blanche told her to stop talking. The media response is "yawn."

The only reason I can think of for this news not being absolutely everywhere is that large media orgs don’t want to be seen as putting their thumbs on the scales a week before election day. And that’s cowardly as shit.

House Judiciary Democrats have just released a 50-page report that pulls together years of assault allegations against Trump and his reported connections to Jeffrey Epstein. The report calls for a special counsel to investigate Trump's ties to Epstein.

Important that folks don't think the genocide has ended should Netanyahu lose. Yes, a Netanyahu loss would be great if it means those corruption cases finally proceed, but it does nothing to reduce the suffering of the Palestinians in and of itself. The rot sits much deeper in Israeli politics.

Anonymous@youranoncentral.bsky.social

Israel can't do the right thing, Netanyahu and his principal electoral rival Gadi Eisenkot are genocidal, Eisenkot is credited with formulating the "Dahiya Doctrine", a military strategy of disproportionate force and targeting civilians. Partook in IL war cabinet during recent Gaza massacres.

The achievement of Serbian students overthrowing Aleksandar Vučić can't be overstated. In 2024, they began protesting. In 2025, they transformed a protest movement into civil dissidence. In 2026, they became a political party — and two months later, crushed a corrupt state-entrenched authoritarian.

Like it or not, we live in a world that is increasingly unpredictable and where supply chains and CNI have been stripped of fat. Climate change brings extremes - heat, wind, rain - that breaks stuff. War in the Middle East risks supplies of the diesel that distributes food to our shops.

AI increases the risk to critical IT systems through both automation and increased access to top decile hacking skills. Meanwhile, the risk of another pandemic is still there, exacerbated by ever-increasing science denial. In short, having a few days of supplies at hand is not a bad idea if you can.

The whole AI "going rogue" discussion tends to miss a LOT of nuance (you're shocked, I'm sure). 1. Yo AI, go do [task] 2. AI does stuff 3. AI claims to have completed [task] (AI may or may not be reporting state correctly). There's an awful lot of room in step 2 for things to go a little awry.

You've lost control at that point. Has the agent gone rogue? Perhaps not, it's still working towards the set goal. However the task-setter has lost control. The original task may be completed, but a LOT of other stuff may have gone on as part of the process.

At the end of the day, we're talking shades of grey rather arbitrary extremes. There is risk to be managed. My fear at the moment is that we don't really have the observability we need to really understand what our agents are doing in that step 2, particularly in the area of agent to agent comms...

However... we see agents collaborating with each other (encoded comms via cache-timing attacks for agents on the same hardware being a fun one I saw reported yesterday). How many organisations are set-up to identify such agent to agent comms?

What happens when an agent communicates and collaborates with an agent subject to a *different* set of guardrails, or under the control of a different Authority, as part of completing their task? Perhaps delegating a sub-task they are not themselves entitled to complete?

"But the AI did what you told it to, so therefore how could it have gone rogue! It's just another process." vs "AI will do what it wants because it's super intelligent." seem to be the binary positions de jour. But let's dig into that Step 2 for a minute.

You can place guardrails on how agents interact with the real world. A model is just a reasoning engine, you need to give it tools and permissions (a harness) for it to affect anything outside itself. You can apply a lot of security best practices to limit those real-world interactions.
