The correlation between social media usage and political instability is so strong as to demand serious investigation. But it isn't happening. Are humans actually the frogs being slowly boiled to death?
One starts to get to the point of thinking that social media and stable democracy are simply incompatible. And this is the real post-2008 story, since the dates of slow economic growth and social media are in fact the same. www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2026...

Absolutely agree. The problem with X doesn’t stop at nudification tools, child porn and AI slop, it’s the deliberate destruction of democracy and security in our country.
There is a remarkable scale of the celebration, glorification and excited encouragement of violence on the X platform. It is probable that most of it is not incitement in law [though there will be examples that are] but the nature + pace of dissemination makes it a major national security risk

We need to think deeper: why is this unacceptable for a 17 year old but acceptable for an 18 year old - or a 57 year old? Age controls are not the real problem.
This is unacceptable. Is a 17 year old boy being pushed to watch antisemitic conspiracy theories about Jewish people after just 11 minutes what Meta considers to be age-appropriate? (1/3)

Saying the officers initially believed the killer because of anti-racism just doesn't make sense. Run through the sequence of events as I described them. If you honestly think the police would've done anything different if the killer were white, please explain how, because I just don't see it

Appreciating it's a buzzword currently but this is just elite radicalisation. There is no significant constituency in the UK for this sort of open racial animus, and yet it has totally permeated the right's "intellectual" spaces.
Shameful from Reform and a good example of why you should never share anything by that godawful aggregator account, which just happens to be run by a Reform councillor. Obviously prostate cancer is a particular problem for black men, who are twice as likely to suffer from it in their lifetimes
Even though I've moved away, I'm rather sad Westminster council goes back to the Tories. Labour were doing good things for cycling in the borough, and who can forget or forgive the £9m the Tories wasted on the Marble Arch Mound: www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-engl...

This React -> Web Components post by the MDN team touches on challenges and solutions I've seen dozens of times over frontend's lost decade. Kudos to them for the improvements in performance, and the bravery to tell the story in an unvarnished way: developer.mozilla.org/en-US/blog/m...

Under the hood of MDN’s new frontend. @leo.mca.is explains how MDN replaced React with web components and Lit, using server components for static content and lazy-loading interactive islands. #mdn #webcomponents developer.mozilla.or...

Really great write-up, and spoiler alert! ... MDN uses Lit to write their web components! 🔥😎 And they use Lit SSR to implement their own server components, and built their own component lazy-loader. Impressive work MDN!
Under the hood of MDN's new frontend 🛠️ We rebuilt MDN from the ground up. ⋅ Web components for islands of interactivity ⋅ Only the CSS & JS each page needs gets shipped ⋅ Dev server starts in 2 seconds (down from 2 minutes) Read the full story 👇 developer.mozilla.org/en-US/blog/...

As an experiment, we (the Firefox team) wanted to try a new way to get feedback on which Interop proposals matter most. So, here's a web app where you can rank the proposals you care about, giving us data we can use when reviewing which ones to champion. interop-rank.jakearchibald.com
The new MDN frontend (we call it Fred) is live after about 5 months of work, and a lot of planning and prototyping before that! Rebuilt using web components, it should feel a lot cleaner and more consistent for users, and is so much easier to develop in. github.com/mdn/fred

Anyone who thinks you can solve London's housing crisis, the product of several decades of not building enough houses, without building more houses, does not deserve to be taken seriously. Nor does anyone tagging the NIMBY ultras of CPRE into a discussion on housing.

“As Trump asked him who was ‘holding the cards’ at the moment, the Ukrainian leader – whose countrymen and women were fighting and dying against Russian aggressors even as the meeting took place – was desperately trying to make the point that none of this is a game to him.”
