The internet can be pretty gullible about tech products, but congrats to everyone who called exactly what this was going to be used for from the first moment they saw it.

Look, I know all the reasons we got here, but we really need to start seriously thinking about what we do in a world where The Markets punish whole countries for voting for decency, compassion, and fairness. We must stop pretending the capitalist machine is an objective, value neutral force.

Lewis Wade 🗃️@wadehistory.bsky.social

It's very, very telling, I think, that the markets are so concerned about the pro-democracy incumbent winning

Green MSP Kate Nevens and SNP MP Lara Bird have been kidnapped by Israel for trying to enter Palestine. The Prime Minister should be demanding their immediate release.

Honestly the complete lack of coverage on this Turning Point UK story is going to do me in. Compare Israel to South Africa and The Lads will go through your bins, but have links to senior right-wing politicians and brag about being able to hire hitmen? Nada. Not interested. Budget's soon y'know

pretty clear evidence that republicans in the US losing any election going forward are going to always beg for a coup if they lose. lots of people will have to go to jail

patchamgreenguy.bsky.social reposted

This isn't even like a centre-to-far left coalition defeating Reform. Reform are fundamentally born out of the Conservative Party. Bolsonaro and Vučić lead parties that whose history is entirely one of ethbonationalist, anticommunist, paramilitary violence. Vučić took part in the Sarajevo Safari.

Congratulations to everybody in Brazil and Serbia today who organised the respective campaigns for Lula and Student List. Western European/North American/Anglosphere communists/anarchists should look to theae movements as inspiration, and anyone saying these are not genuine victories is an idiot.

patchamgreenguy.bsky.social reposted

It's really important to pay attention to the fact that Lula beat the fascist candidate not by compromising and trying to meet fascist voters in the middle, but by sticking to his guns, promising prosecutions for election interference, and mobilising his own voters to turn out in greater numbers.

patchamgreenguy.bsky.social reposted

Genuinely I don't know that it comes across to people who haven't been here to watch how almost unbelievable this was, just people taking something that looked impossible and dragging it kicking and screaming all the way to inevitability.

patchamgreenguy.bsky.social reposted

These elections really make clear the damage populist hype has done The idea that anything left of centre, mildly critical of the status quo and the capitalist elite could be equated to the far right is so ridiculous and yet this is what has been pushed in most of the media aided by many academics

Aurelien Mondon@aurelmondon.com

The news from Brazil and Serbia are great and show that you don't defeat the far right by copying it or trying to appeal to their supporters You do it by being uncompromising, showing the danger they pose and offering something different to the many crises people suffer from

It would be incredibly useful for a country like Brazil to just outright ban Facebook and x. Show it can be done. Or at least apply regulatory standards that hucksters like musk and Zuckerberg can't meet. Make them rack up the fines every time some nazi posts.

Rafa Sales Ross@rafiews.com

In his acceptance speech, Lula says he will work to regulate digital platforms in Brazil. “Digital crimes must be dealt with like real-life crimes.” This comes after Meta directly interfered with the Brazilian elections, favouring Flávio Bolsonaro.

patchamgreenguy.bsky.social reposted

Reminder that they also did this to Zack Polanski during the Holborn & St. Pancras by-election. Can't help but wonder that was a test run for future elections, such as the one that's just taken place in Brazil

Bolsonaro-friendly mayors appear to be sabotaging public transport on Election Day. Buses aren’t running in Lula-friendly areas, flights and ferries mysteriously canceled. Traffic lights have gone out and people’s power cut in Salvador, indigenous people’s travel restricted

Rafa Sales Ross@rafiews.com

We are watching a coup d’état attempt unfold in real time in Brazil. I’m consumed by desperation.

patchamgreenguy.bsky.social reposted

Grim stories from Brazil. Indigenous voters going to the city a day early because they don’t trust their state not to cut off their travel routes on election day: www.instagram.com/reel/De4z6kP... - while many flights to the north east, a pro-Lula region, have been cancelled without explanation.

Brazil going the way of South Korea. Basically around the world women are desperately trying to keep power out of the hands of incredibly stupid fascistic grifters while men keep trying to hand it over. Men are an embarrassing cringe gender.

Jo Wolff@jowolff.bsky.social

Incredible gender difference in voting intention in Brazil.

So here we have far-right militia attacking protestors and when the protestors defend themselves, the police charges them... Montpellier. These images are crazy and show where France is at regarding its fascist turn.

David Hutin Photo@davidhutinphoto.bsky.social

Les militants fascistes ont attaqués des manifestants rue de la Loge sous les yeux de la police, quand les manifestants ont répliqués, la police a chargé pour les protéger et les miliciens ont frappés les gens à terre ! #Montpellier #24octobre #ViolencesPolicieres @info.gouv.fr

So much to say about this but consider how, if you are interviewed by media and have a pro-Palestinian position, you are expected to be fully across absolutely everything and to answer for anything anyone pro-Palestinian has ever said or done. And contrast with...this.

“I didn't know that.” Shehab Khan challenges @miketapp.bsky.social on Jewish people abroad being able to obtain Israeli citizenship while displaced Palestinians cannot return. His response: “That doesn't sound equal to me.” Watch in full and subscribe: zeteo.uk/p/labour-mp-...

Breaking. Data request from the CPS has confirmed the Met Police didn't supply the CPS with further information supplied by the witness about Graham Linehan that would have shown crucial context and mens rea to his tweet INCITING others to assault transgender people. This changes things massively.

The French elite love to claim the memory of the Revolution, the Rights of Man (sic), the resistance to Nazi occupation and other progressive moments in French history, but they are very quick to show they would have been on the authoritarian side whenever memory becomes action in the present

Miatta can clearly see right from wrong but she's rowed into line twice with a Labour government siding with Shell and Donald Trump on climate vandalism, and into line now on cruel immigration reforms. What is the point of Labour if they can't even do the basics to protect people and the planet?

patchamgreenguy.bsky.social reposted

there has seriously not been a single day over the last 2 years where the government hasn't revealed a policy that is a giant 'fuck you' to everyone in the country. labour are so much worse than the tories and im tired of ppl telling me truss was worse or screeching at me about boris johnson.

Huge vindication of the left wing think tank complex producing high quality MPs here. (/s)

Yeah look, how does this meaningfully differ from - to pick just one example - the entire press indulging Jonathan Ashworth and Thagnam Debonnaire in weeks of roaring into microphones about how “sectarian voting” cost them their seats? Do we think they meant “Muslims are legit Britons, like anyone”.

This means that the increased price of RAM and consumer electronics was a result of an artificial "supply chain crisis" created by Jensen Huang pushing NVIDIA's customers to take early delivery of GPUs. Jensen Huang is responsible for making life worse for everyone.

Ed Zitron@edzitron.com

NVIDIA seems to be channel stuffing, forcing Amazon and other customers to take early delivery. The argument that these things are "scarce" when you don't even have anywhere to plug them into is nonsense...unless NVIDIA is saying you NEED to take them now, or else. GPUs are stacked in warehouses.
