Send this to all your family outside DC who assume it’s just peachy. Seen this repeated over and over with so many people, including ones who aren’t even specialized or former Feds/contractors.

AHA! @nicknc.bsky.social identified it: A DARKLING SEA by James L. Cambias! It wasn’t one of the Jupiter moons but it WAS a planet with an icy surface and a big ol’ sea! Excellent stuff, go read about being dissected, you won’t have nightmares, I promise

*Trying to remember the book* Some human dudes go to either Europa or Enceladus to explore the ocean underneath the ice to see if there’s life and WHOA DANG The book is narrated by that ocean life that sees a human swimming around and thinks WHAT AN ODD FISH and so they CUT THEM OPEN FOR SCIENCE

My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today. Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man.

And now the Denver B-Gates Tattered Cover Bookstore has signed copies of When the Moon Hits Your Eye, Redshirts, and Old Man's War. Go get them!

Oh no!!!! He was great. His Bester character on Babylon 5 was amazing. And of course, the loss of any original Star Trek cast member cuts deep.

Oh no 😭 One of the last members of the USS Enterprise has left. RIP Walter Marvin Koenig (1936-2026) Star Trek, Babylon 5, Moontrap, The Starlost, The Questor Tapes, Futurama... What a career in sci-fi. I will miss Pavel Chekov. Again 😞

If you pay in gold, it’s fantasy; if you pay in credits, it’s sci-fi.

Why would anyone build a data center in Florida. Hurricanes are a thing

Jon Cooper@joncooper-us.bsky.social

🚨DATA CENTERS COULD COST REPUBLICANS THE FLORIDA GOVERNORSHIP. If David Jolly wins, the explosive backlash against AI data centers will be a big reason why. Floridians don’t want these power-hungry facilities built in their neighborhoods — Byron Donalds is far too cozy with the data center lobby.

I enjoy taking my handheld radio frequency jammer to the psychic clairvoyancy events my wife drags me to. The panic on the "psychic's" face when their assistant looking everyone up on social media behind the scenes gets replaced with static in their ear is brilliant.

An amazing image from Twin Peaks, Dune, and Fallout star Kyle MacLachlan's memoir "Fictional Selves" that just shows how awesome Patrick Stuart is.

Happy hour in Navy Yard. Couple at the end of a full bar is showing each other videos on their phones, full sound. They leave. Another (younger) couple takes their seats. They order drinks … and then start scrolling through TikToks on their phones, full volume. Of course.

Some good news for DC locals. Need every drop of good news

Capital Weather@capitalweather.com

Some rare good environmental news! 🌎 After decades of efforts to cut pollution, DC region has met federal air quality standards for ozone. The progress is remarkable: In the late 1990s, we had dozens of unhealthy air days per year. In 2026, just 5. Details: www.capitalweather.com/dc-region-sl...

In 2016, we published potentially the largest single feature to ever appear in Game Informer magazine with a full oral history of the legendary studio, BioWare. We've made that feature available online following reports of the studio's impending closure. gameinformer.com/feature/2026...
