Everyone thought Lula was cooked, hopeless. Then he bought a phone and started posting and now he's gonna get a 4th term. The lesson is to never stop posting.

We are watching a coup d’état attempt unfold in real time in Brazil. I’m consumed by desperation.

An arrest warrant has been issued against Salvador's secretary of transport, one of Brazil's largest Lula-voting hubs, for keeping dozens of buses off the streets today. Again: what’s happening in Brazil is criminal.

It's weird that some people's arguments rest on them proudly saying they fall for the simplest and dumbest propaganda trick.

One of the finest examples of Populism's fast-thinking simplism. 'I've seen an answer to this and it instantly hits an "instinctively right" button (as long as I don't think about it too hard). And it owns the libs. So I'm now going to use it myself.' Now multiply that. The echo chamber effect.

Anyway, for those wanting to know what a cruise itinerary looks like when it's both very, very boring and far, far too interesting, here's the entire voyage as seen on AIS.

One tough aspect of AI in writing is you probably need to be a native speaker to sense it.

nico@nicovallone.bsky.social

I’ve only been able to find eight reviews that were able to determine the writing was not authentic, but basically all the negative reviews commented on how overwrought and exhausting the prose was. I mean look at it

a) that award committees aren't so smart b) that award committees don't care about quality c) that ai can write good fiction (honestly not my impression, but I've never tried to convince one to write a book) d) that it's all relative, and a crapshoot, and ai is just more crapshoot entries

Yes, but your two big ideas so far have been police and crime commissioners and Brexit. Shall we check on them first?

Burnham is saying he does not have a 'red line' against free movement (which would be part of single market or joining EU) “I can’t see myself ever recommending anything that would involve joining the euro or Schengen [area]. No, I just don’t think they would ever be things that I would recommend”

In fact, Texas' solar generation has grown so much that it's surpassed California to become America's largest solar-producing state Texas already had a heavy lead in utility-scale solar, but has now passed California even when you include rooftop

The fact that the president's doctors are giving him the dementia test over and over again -- tracking his decline, most likely -- and that the president keeps bragging about having to take that test should be a five-alarm fire.

Trump: "You know, the first question -- they have a lion, a snake, a giraffe, and a bear. And they say 'which is the snake?' ... by the time you get to number five a lot of people are left out on the road ... I get no credit for it."

It's weird how slightly off this is. The AI gets many things right (not perspective or continuity of course but besides that) yet there's this oddness that permeates.

And now, a message from the president

TIL you can put a hold on clothes.

Mia Sato@miasato.bsky.social

This week I did something with AI that would truly annoy me if I were another shopper. I told Muse to add new items on The RealReal to my cart, putting them on hold for 20 mins. I told Muse to do it again and again as soon as the hold was up. This went on for hours, blocking anyone else from buying.

People are being very kneejerk negative on this, but this could very easily be spun in a positive manner Bluesky could really get behind.

The fact that Western publics are unreasonably mad at objective trade-offs and tolerable living standards (and have to make up new words to describe a nebulous “crisis”) is bad because it generates real crises (avoiding trade-offs causes debt crises, grievance politics cause democratic crises).

Will Stancil@whstancil.bsky.social

“It’s real, even if it doesn’t show up in charts.” How do you know it’s real, then? How do you know that you’re not simply insisting on a reality you prefer, in the face of evidence? How would you support your view? Is it falsifiable, at all? How are you any different from MAGA in this respect?

Yeah - the ideal solution is just “you get a share of the profits”, but we live in a world where we are asked to believe that Men in Black has yet to break even and Hollywood keeps making sequels for the love of the game.

It's weird to me that there are workplaces where others don't simply clock that their coworker obviously just got an LLM to do their work.

KetAnthropic JoshAI@ketanjoshi.co

The first genuinely honest ad for generative AI I've ever seen, from Microsoft / CoPilot A mediocre white guy sees his non-white colleague getting praised for good work, he asks AI to *literally copy it*, and then he gets all the praise instead: www.ispot.tv/ad/SoDi/micr...

Team Paxton appears to have sent out fake mailers to Texas voters impersonating a trans student group and claiming to want to help kids secretly transition. The actual group said they had nothing to do with it, despite the mailers copying their aesthetic, and the address traces to a random UPS box.
