Watching the genre of transformative art (aka fanfic) get gobbled up by capitalism and spit out as "fandom" or fascist memes really sucks shit huh

RFK: "There's five hundred million Arabs in the world. And yet they don't produce science. They don't win the Nobel Prize. They don't win the Fields Prize. They don't win the Wolf Prize. They don't produce literature."

Children are not born knowing how to hate. You have to expose them to the couples on House Hunters and explain it to them.

i would like one of those NYT flyover country focus group panels but for EV/hybrid drivers in deep red states who got shit for years from their neighbors for driving the woke and gay electrics and how they're feeling these days

Lauri Myllyvirta@laurimyllyvirta.bsky.social

The typical gasoline car driver has paid $440 more since the crisis began. US drivers that have managed to make the switch to EVs are now reaping the benefits, experiencing only an increase of $17 in charging costs since the beginning of March.

Reports are saying Jair Bolsonaro had already purchased a customized matching hospital bed for his beloved son Flavio to spend election night in alongside him. “It works both ways. Victory or defeat. Either way, I know where I want to be.”

I have discovered the exact, objective, scientific amount that Elizabeth Holmes and Nathan Fielder are lying and/or credulous. By solving this it means that I’ve won, which is the point of the movie, and really all movies if you think about it.

“protein enriched chocolate chip cookie” is kinda the perfect synthesis of the conflicting american male desires to be a spartan warrior and also five years old

My parents moved to the US in 1987 and they couldn’t buy something as simple as plain yogurt for Indian recipes, and now I can get coriander chutney at Safeway

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

Hey Somerville... Guess what?  WE BOUGHT THE BUILDING. The Somerville Theatre now belongs to the people who run it. Buying it was our leap of faith. Supporting it is where you come in. Find how you can help: somervilletheatre.com/future

I keep seeing South Asian folks making grand gestures of disclaiming Ramaswamy, as with Haley or Jindal. The thing to understand is, NONE of these candidates have ever, in any race, won a majority of the South Asian vote in any jurisdiction where they were running. They are products of white voters.

after statehood we'll have to rename the airport after someone who isn't awful and while duke ellington is probably the most sensible pick i think "fugazi international" really rolls off the tongue

we've identified another vulnerability leak. now hackers on the dark web have identified your bad knee and that weird thing your shoulder does if you sleep on it wrong. there's no patch available for this, they're now just keenly aware you feel like your career has stalled out

Update: Vivek Ramaswamy has slapped a friend's child in the face in what his campaign is calling "a tribute to The Slap," a short-run 2015 television drama based on an Australian series of the same name.

Replying to @mconcagh.bsky.social

“My daughter is a liar worthy of public humiliation decades after the fact” vs “my stepdad was a paedophile and my mum covered for him” is easily the most on-the-nose representation of what the dynamic between “estranged parents” and their kids looks like outside the newspapers and in the real world

Struggling to engage with the concept of “father and son Republican operatives Timmy and Tommy Teepell.” Come on man can even one thing be like 5% less stupid

Because parents have been cutting off their kids (and/or threatening to) since the dawn of time, and NYT editors regard it as normal? (You date that girl. You want to leave the familly business. You chose the arts over med school. You're gay. You're trans.... It's endlesss... & then there's wills!)

Whether or not ppl cutting off their parents is an actual phenomenon (is it, really?) or just clicky outrage bait, anti-estrangement is a paternalistic, socially regressive position — it’s so similar to being anti-divorce that the two are virtually indistinguishable.

Michael Hobbes@michaelhobbes.bsky.social

This is a quietly metastasizing moral panic

Something tells me "I cut my kid off because they're gay/trans" doesn't get *quite* the same clicks

Katelyn Burns@katelynburns.com

What's extremely telling is that there is never once an article like this written from the perspective of the person who cut off their parent.

I do think if your kid is anxious to the point of throwing up about whether or not to invite you to their wedding (speakign from personal experience), you may need to do some introspection

washington dc is not trump’s personal property and must be given statehood to prevent this kind of abuse in the future
