i don't think anyone should run explicitly on banning online gambling but i do think that a democratic-led government should just quietly take steps to undermine the industry and create an inhospitable regulatory environment

Lula won in part by banning online gambling

Hey remember a couple months ago when I almost died from sleep apnea and begged y'all to be checked if you have symptoms of sleep apnea? Eric Bauza just died from sleep apnea. We were the same age. Don't ignore sleep apnea.

Ryan Estrada@ryanestrada.com

Do you get a full night's sleep but wake up feeling like death? Does your whole body feel off in ways you can't explain? Research signs of Sleep Apnea. Get a sleep test. You can't diagnose it yourself, cuz you sleepin'.

It's really important to pay attention to the fact that Lula beat the fascist candidate not by compromising and trying to meet fascist voters in the middle, but by sticking to his guns, promising prosecutions for election interference, and mobilising his own voters to turn out in greater numbers.

between serbia, brazil, and hopefully november 3, a good reminder: voting works it’s not the end, there’s always work to be done after the vote, but if you want to beat the motherfuckers and keep them out of power: vote your asses off

Lula winning is great for the planet, great for Brazil, and great for people who aren't revanchist assholes everywhere in the world, but let's not forget that it's also going to make some of the worst people on Earth extremely sad and mad. We should enjoy that, as a little treat.

There’s no discussion of potential penalties in this article, but if people don’t go to jail for flagrant illegality like this, it will keep happening. For companies like Google, fines are just another cost of doing business. Something to toss on the balance sheet and weigh against profits.

Anyone who gets fooled by Ro Khanna is a fucking moron I'm sorry.

The Washington Post@washingtonpost.com

Rep. Ro Khanna (D-California) has been taking steps like these to raise his national profile ahead of a possible 2028 presidential campaign. He has been positioning himself to be one of the most appealing candidates to the party’s left wing.

Every time some new tech turns out to be another grift with a new pair of mustache glasses, medical research is out here delivering win after win.

Maxis fucking prints money. They do it cheap and they crank out packs and updates on the regular, and Sims fans devour them. They are the proverbial cash cow. So why lay those people off when you're trying to cover an $18 billion buyout debt? This is why leveraged buyouts should be illegal.

And then there's California with the dozens and doznes of weird elected offices (state insurance commissioner! state superintendent! Board of Equalization!) and state/local ballot measures.

I kinda suspect American voters are likely dumber than average in democracies because our system is so complicated and nonsensical

The fact that the current crop of AI doesn't do most of the things they claim it can do should not obscure the fact that the current crop of AI is very very good at helping scammers and criminals and bad actors flood the zone so completely the zone feels like it might collapse.

This is what I need denialists to understand: the AI evangelists' wildest fever dreams (sentience, the singularity, whatever-the-fuck) don't need to be real for the tech to be hugely consequential. A machine gun doesn't need to be superintelligent.

Ramaswamy has produced an attack ad weaponizing the rape of his opponent, Amy Acton, when she was 12 years old. It features Acton’s mother, who abandoned Acton after she was raped by her step-father, fleeing the state with her husband. Here is the corporate money helping fund that ad.

I was sexually abused as a child. I'm not the only person I know who can say that. If I'd been forced to let ANYONE perform that sort of examination in order to play sports, a thing children need for health--both physical and mental? I am not unique. Vote no on unnecessarily traumatizing our kids.

Doctors and nurses are voicing their objections. I-638 would require EVERY girl who wants to participate in sports to go through biological sex verification. That means expensive, invasive, and utterly gross examinations. Protect our kids and let them play. Vote NO on I-638

At the beginning of the year I started taking my kids to church regularly for the first times in their lives (for various reasons) and I have to say I am consistently impressed by the community organization skills of Gen X and Boomer mainline protestant Evelyn NormieLib parishioners.

Rachel Hallie@dazedrachel.bsky.social

All I am saying is that for all the "community organizing" and "providing for each other" the edgy doomers say they do, whenever I go to a community support or civic event I am often the only one under 50

I've mentioned before I've updated my contracts to make sure everything in the production of my books is done by humans and not "AI"; if you're wondering what such a thing looks like, here's a clause covering that from a recent contract.

The Titanic is a great analogy: a ship that they proclaimed was unsinkable and then because of that they didn't bring lifeboats for anyone except the exceptionally wealthy so a lot of poor people took the brunt of what happened. Anyway.

Somewhere in a Roman brickyard, around 1800 years ago, a fresh tile was drying peacefully ahead of firing - until a dog trotted straight across it. Centuries later, the tile has made it into a museum: not because of an emperor, but thanks to one dog who accidentally walked his way into history. 📷️me

There were 27 miles of rope used for rigging in Master & Commander. Modern rope naturally coils in the opposite direction of rope made during the Napoleonic wars. So the production paid a shop to make period accurate cordage.

We all know the "Viggo broke his toe" story but what's another movie fact you're personally compelled to bring up every time without prompting? For me, it's the fact that Robin Tunney is wearing a wig in The Craft because of having just shaved her head to save her job filming Empire Records.

This is a great voting shortcut: always vote the *opposite* of what the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association, Silicon Valley Taxpayers Association, <Your Region> Taxpayers Association, and Reform California recommend

I’ve Had Enough of This@debkegel.bsky.social

I vote against whatever is supported by the Howard Jarvis taxpayers assn. Any prop that has a pro or con from (local area) taxpayers assn is one to vote the opposite. Here in San Diego junk pushed by Carl DeMaio are Trojan Horses. Most California propositions are flawed. When in doubt, vote No.
