A failed president who incited a coup attempt and then was found liable of sexual assault and then was convicted of felonies won the popular vote and electoral college. I still haven’t seen a satisfactory explanation. Probably never will.

It's a combination of ignorance and THAT leading to bad choices as to what in in each individual's self interest. People know inflation is a problem and blame the current administration. They want lower prices and believed Trump’s pie in the sky BS.

I would be incredibly relieved to see a forensic analysis of the election... considering everything riding on it. No time in history have the consequence for the losers, Trump, Putin, Netanyahu, billionaires, crypto... so astronomically high.

So the hundreds of voter suppression bills and tens of thousands of Republican vigilantes removing millions of citizens from the rolls hasn’t made the news?

The extraordinarily powerful rightwing media propaganda machine, coupled with millions of Americans whose racism and misogyny can be exploited and activated, seems like a pretty satisfactory explanation to me.

Yes, there are a lot of cult members who voted for him. Yes, a lot of Christians voted for him. But that still doesn't explain his "win". I still think Elmo manipulated numbers, maybe with help from pooty.

1. 90M people couldn't care less; didn't vote. 2. Of the rest, a majority actually like his racist-rapist persona. 3. GOP politicians whole-heartedly support the winning formula - their survival is through continued subjugation of women & minorities, and the expansion of the poor & under-educated.

The reDUMBliCons don’t want to govern, they want power, & they’re willing to cheat, lie, steal, & be corrupt to gain power. The election results must be carefully examined including the ballots & voting machines. Our system has been compromised in a hostile takeover by foreign agents! 🤔🗽⚖️🇺🇸 #SaveUS

darkreading.comICS Security: 'The Enemy Is in the Wire'Threats to industrial control systems are real and frightening. The government is taking steps to keep us safer in the future, but there are near-term steps you can take right now.

White Americans are willfully stupid and predominantly greedy. I can’t even look at American white men. And America’s white women make me feel sick. I now have my own country. It isn’t America, the land of the greedy and home of the ignorant.

I don't think there was one factor. GOP had a better organized ground roots door-to-door campaign that they implemented early in all battleground states. Low information and no information voters did not even know who the top of the ticket was for Democrats. Harris only had 3 months. Inflation.

I don't get why they at least not do a recount when so much is depending on it. It's the least they could do! That's not even close to what they did. Something so important and nobody does anything. I don't get THAT. I never will.

Far more white Americans are far more racist than you imagined. Also, quite a few are really stupid. But what came down to in 2024, like in 2016, is that a significant, outcome determining percentage of voters will not vote for a woman for president.

I’m sure it depends on the quality of the female candidate. In the UK the ( right wing) Conservative Party has had 3 female Prime Ministers. The left have never had a female nominee. First female US president will be Republican

If the first female US president has to be a Republican, then it has nothing at all to do with "the quality of the female candidate," however you define quality. If people are willing to vote for a convicted felon who tried to overthrow the govt, the problem isn't the female candidate.

Interesting explaination on Molly Jong Fast's podcast (Fast Politics with MJF) by guest, Roger McNamee. Messaging from MAGA--been building on conspiracies (and grievance) for years.

The answer to that question is actually pretty simple. They stole the election exactly the way they claimed the Democrats did in 2020. They got access to the code for the voting machines. Remember Trump's message at his rallies: "I don't need any votes we've got more than we need".

That's what the Germans said I'm sure when Hitler won - using all the same oft-repeated big lies, slander fear & hate-mongering, xenophobia, etc...More Americans are believing Trump/ Putin's lies, because they just keep oft-repeating those lies. The Truth must be sown faster than the endless lies.

That's what motivated more Americans to the polls. That's the answer. We've been wracking our brains to find a way to let half of America off the hook, but the truth is that they like him and want him in charge. They want the cruelty and the shamelessness.

That and there is some sentimental belief that things were better and cheaper from 2017-2019, and they forget or they are in denial that Covid changed everything. They forget that every day was chaos with Trump somehow.

My theory is the Dems let the republicans (to not go after political enemies) essentislly determine the punishment onto him and they chose not to hold him accountable. He got a pass for Jan 6 and once you deem it ok to orchestrate an insurrection- then what can you hold him accountable for?

It's very hard for pundits like Aaron to accept that far right extremists need a feckless centrist party to survive. It's easier just to throw the burden onto individuals in the electorate you feel are more extreme than you.

The party has shifted too far left but nobody will admit it. The shift left is soooo unpopular that people would rather have elected that candidate than what the dems offered.

Biden 38% approval; 70% “wrong direction “ nationwide poll- deadly numbers-plus right wing media flooding the zone with disinformation (Nathan heller). Result 10 M Biden voters did not vote. Kamala not. At fault.

No incumbents in any democratic society in the World won re-election overall. Lost seats lost majorities! The Misinformation and world wide price fixing during and after Covid until 6 months ago! World wide! Shipping and commodities all record profits! Anger! Only has happened 1 or 2 times before.

The billionaires who dream of being feudal lords, Russians and Chinese, are trying to make us believe that we live in a turbulent and insecure time, when the truth is that, despite current injustice, humanity has never been better. They vote for them out of fear.

I'm not much of a conspiracy theorists but I do believe the election was fixed. I can maybe get past the electoral college but the popular vote. No fucking way. Trump kept hinting at they had some sort of secret. It has me wondering 🤔

It's not even that Trump won. It's that we saw how little enthusiasm there was around him. Venues he couldn't fill, people leaving his events early, the rambling, droning speeches. It's hard to contrast that w the wild optimism & energy around Kamala and not feel something is drastically wrong.

He successfully used the racism lingering right under the surface of a majority of White Americans. He tapped into their fear of losing their identity of what a real "American" is. It wasn't anything else he tapped into that addiction of superiority which acts like any other drug.

Now ask yourself who has been the ONLY one to beat trump electorally? Exactly it was that other White man. This proves my point White America was comfortable voting for another White man just not a Woman especially a Black woman.

Trump received about 2/3 of the White vote. This was always his target audience. This is where that underlying racist tones allowed for him to stir up those feelings of them losing their White identity this is what drove out the White vote.

New results in he lost the popular vote. And why are leftists taking the "high road" when in my locale they are for the third time recounting 2 elections but it's the gop forcing the recount because when they lose they check again, when we lose we just take it. Pathetic

Humans can be easily manipulated when there are no trusted sources of information. The death of truth leads to the death of democracy. In other words, Walter Cronkite has left the building.

I think the best explanation I've seen so far is something like, people who follow politics closely went +9 for Harris and people who don't went +19 for DT. I live in a super red area, so many local trumpers online are completely ignorant about things he's done.

The news is a problem. Where I'm from, you can add generational ignorance. You're basically born Republican here and hearing smears against Dems that have no basis in fact is just part of normal life. I've heard my whole life how D's can't be trusted bc they let dead people vote for them.

They blatantly lie and the Magats eat it up. Here in NC after Helen tore through western NC the gop reps and faux news constantly told people that the Biden administration wasn’t helping enough. Which is total BS but they all bought it. And voila NC votes for trump. Unreal

I knew about CNN but I didn’t know about the local TV stations. All the more reason to shut the TV off. It’s a shame, until about 2016 I was heavy on the cnn and msnbc. News reporting after 9/11 really changed too…the ticker at the bottom caused me heartburn. I probably should have stopped then.

Because eggs cost a lot, trans people play sports, 1% of immigrants commit a crime and, of course, because a black woman ran against a white man. Nothing in this election was about actual policies and actual progress for this country. It was about stupidity, racism and misogyny. PERIOD

People are tired of the status quo: wealth inequality, enshittification, and centralization of private power. Trump speaks to their concerns and they aren't informed enough to know he's lying to them. The democrats grit their teeth and pretend everything's fine. The age of neoliberalism is over

I read and agree with this: The oligarchs used media to get people to focus on the 'culture' wars, while they kept their role as the highest rulers in the 'class' war. They purchase legislators who in turn, vote in their favor.

You're correct, we probly never will. Because for the first time in modern presidential history, campaign enthusiasm did NOT translate into voter turnout. Instead, we are being made to believe the opposite: that the low enthusiasm candidate had superior turnout.

Add to that the last minute purges like Texas, which threw out a million voters in like, what--two weeks? One week before the election? I did not hear even one mention of what the DOJ response was. Nobody talks bout it still, leaving me to wonder, was that just fake news? It must have been...

On top of that, we aren't allowed to talk about Republican access to voter machine software and data in both Colorado and Georgia, not without sounding like a conspiracy theorist. So, well played, corporate mainstream media, well played: you got us to self-censor, which is the ultimate triumph.

And lastly for me, I don't think there's even ONE person in the academic field of Media Studies, whose research specializes on "the industry" who can speak directly as to how effectively right wing media has built an IMPENETRABLE media ecosystem that so effortlessly repels contradictory information.

Heather Cox Richardson explained it pretty well in her interview with Jon Stewart. It basically boils down to the patriarchy, racism, and the oligarchy and how “equality” is such a scary word for all of them.

Felt like the USA rolled the dice with democracy as we know it this election in hopes of the burgeoning billionaire oligarchy helping to ease the burden of inflation and perceived issues with the economy for the common man (spoiler: they won’t).

Since when has the working class thought that the rich would help them? I always thought it was well understood that the rich and corporations always screw the little guy. Isn’t that Bernie’s whole thing? I don’t get the 180 from that.

I don’t either but I can only assume most people are in such dire straits with their personal finances that they developed Trump-nesia. These next 4 years are gonna suck for everyone, sadly. The Trump voters just don’t know it yet.

The best explanation I have is the combination of 1) enough swing voters blaming inflation on the incumbent administration, and 2) MAGA seeming cooler and more carefree than the Democrats at the moment. I hope I'm wrong, because I'm unsure we can solve that last one by 2028.

To ignorant people he may sound smart. In the absence of real information you can fill the void with any kind of nonsense. It is easier to believe a conspiracy that is simple and sounds plausible than to understand the complexities of the world. Find a scapegoat and people will follow.

In a book called "Art of the Start", Guy Kawasaki talks about various bozos you encounter when starting a business. Most dangerous is the successful bozo. S/he has money, but no brains. But you think they must know something because they're rich. It's tough to see through if you don't know how.

One side (D) insisted the economy is doing great, which it is but only for the wealthy. And the other side (R) was complaining about the cost of living, eg; Gas, Eggs, etc. Messaging matters, it's really not that complicated.

Well, I know a lot of people who are middle class and they voted for T. But I don't see that anything has changed in their lives. They go on the same vacations, drive the same cars, and go out to eat. Their stock investments have done well. We need a better definition of wealth in this country.

The bigger question is how millions of Americans could overlook it all. You wouldn't let your daughter date/marry a guy who was accused of sexual assault by one woman, let alone several. You wouldn't hire a person with multiple felonies to run your business, let alone a country.

Here is mine: Record inequality has undermined our human need for status and esteem to the point where Americans are desperate for change. Government has not stopped this, and enough voters wanted to blow up the system. Trump won because so many people disliked both candidates and many didn't vote.

As for why Trump and not another Republican, that i don't know. I'm guessing enough people felt the economy before 2020 was his doing. But the difference this year came down to the previous Biden voters (not just reliable Dems) not being able to vote for him again due to inflation or border.

That's your points? Most of the ppl. voting for him are voting against their very interest. Be it healthcare. Be it security. Be it wages or inflation. That's why I am asking this question... But then again... the reason is obvious, is it not?

They'd rather be "very special white people" with no functional government than let black people and women continue to have jobs & go to college and such, or let gay and trans people just be left alone to live their lives.

The uneducated, the gullible, have been sucked into an alternate reality while searching for acceptance. They've found the acceptance they have searched years for, but are they really going to like what they're going to get? No. They will blame everyone but themselves.

I still think anti-incumbent bias + misinformation are the two biggest contributors. On the former, Harris overperformed compared to international peers. On the latter, better informed people were more likely a vote for Harris. Partisans in their corners and marginal voters poorly informed 🤷

This is why: The average American reads at a 7th- to 8th-grade level. 54% of adults have a literacy level below 6th grade. 45 million adults are functionally illiterate and read below a 5th grade level. 44% of adults do not read a book in a year.

The uneducated are getting news from social media and Fox instead of credible news sites who use professional journalists. We're not seeing the same news. They see a peaceful protest, a lying liberal woman trying to ruin his life, and a corrupt & weaponized legal system. Those are their facts.

Idiots, a legion of either racists, bigots and or xenophobes latched onto traitor who allows their worst instinct to he screamed like howler monkees voted for him. Let it be known that howler monkees are kinder and smarter than the average maga voter, and I sure hope they don't get offended.

*If* I thought an evil power was staging a bloodless coup in an attempt to convert the USA into a fascist dictatorship, I would feel justified in storming the capitol and voting for whoever holds the line. That's what good propaganda can do. Take what you feel about Project 2025 and call it MAGA.

He didn't. Folks like the original poster correctly observe he's not nearly that good at it. Russia ran and is still running that, and is increasingly mask off about it. Not exactly a secret

The hidden racism of Americans. They have been waiting years for someone like Trump who shares what they were thinking all along. They know exactly what he was saying. The excuses they use about the economy, etc is just a cover for blatant racism in this country that never really went away.

Which is astounding to me because he’s just so sleazy and so lacking in credibility. I can’t get over just one person believing a word that comes out of his mouth.

He didn't do it alone. He was propped up by big tech/foreign troll farms and sanewashed by legacy media. All while the right wing media apparatus has been stoking fear in people via lies for decades. Add in surging wealth inequality, and people are psychologically primed to be manipulated.

They see him through MAGA-colored glasses, in an entirely different light. They find the "Trump dance" endearing. They find his mocking of others (doing voices and nicknames) hilarious. The cringier he is, the more they love him. That, as much as anything, will never make sense to me.

Every time I see that stupid dance I think of the altered video where he has a cartoon pecker in each fist, it makes it so much more bearable.

What is one of the most popular pastimes in the US? Watching WWE, with lots of dramatic trash-talking and constant grudges and retributions. Most of the Dems are, I would argue, decent people, but they come off as over-educated technocrats. Which they are.

But he is a clever manipulator of the poorly educated. He lied about Project 2025 and now his crew is saying it was ALWAYS intended to be implemented. We knew, but those people who he lied to are about to find out they were manipulated. So sad for them and for America.

I actually have relatives who are life long Republicans who have always been, never Trumpers, who have been somewhat shocked that their friends and our other Republican relatives can’t see how sleazy and lacking in credibility he is.

Except he's not running it. He's incapable and demented and propped up by a multitude of rich and evil men..I guess "tale as old as time."..still incomprehensible how many see/hear only what they want, and not reality

It was not just him, it was all of the right-wing news networks including social media, Twitter, and its owner, troll farms from Russia to China to wherever… He is intended to be America’s destruction. And he is aided by a whole well funded cadre of saboteurs disguised as “patriots”.

The thing is - if it was just his mouth, he would have lost (imo). It was the nationwide support & disinformation feom the xtian pulpits - lies re post- birth ‘abortion’ & white nationalism wrapped around their Bible verses. How do we overcome weekly indoctrination via ‘white god’?

So successful that those who have been duped and gaslighted by him and his very loud proxies, now not only believe that what are, in fact, actual facts are lies, but also shriek vitriolic disdain at any attempts to prove these actual facts with more actual facts. 🤯

So with that, did you really think it would be any different under Trump? And don’t get me wrong, it’s absolutely horrendous what’s happening there, but the result of not voting for Harris or voting for Trump or not voting at all put a felon rapist cheat aimed to destroy the country that ALL live in

Don’t forget, he’s an idiot who isn’t running the campaign. He’s had plenty of help from the evil minions around him, and his Russian oligarch friends as well.

And the conservative billionaires that now own “news” outlets from National media to your local TV news and newspapers, amplified the misinformation. I’m looking at you, Sinclair!

And that disinformation campaign succeeded because the media will 100% helping him carry it out. If they spent a 10th of the effort covering Trump’s insanity as they did Biden’s age, Trump would’ve lost in a landslide.

I disagree. That’s not why. The truth is (and has been) openly available and white Felon-voters know what it is. They simply use the disinformation for talking points to cover their fear-based hatred. Ex: when they say “the economy was better” and you ask “how,” they stare blank-faced.

My $.02: media sanewashed Trump because they want the drama of his administration, the chaos increase engagement. And people didn't look beyond the headline or the sound bite to find the truth.
