The American people electing Trump after he staged a coup attempt 5 years ago was a nail in the coffin of our democracy. You can rationalize it all you want - But inflation! But wokeness! - but ultimately it was a societal suicide attempt and probably the dumbest collective voting decision ever made

I think the step prior to this - swift and immediate legal action following the coup - was also a major component of the coffin.

I would blame the American government and legal system deciding not to treat an attempted coup as a crime, much less as treason, and then treating him as a valid candidate to run again the voters' sin is agreeing with their own government that it wasn't a big deal

A huge reason Trump was elected, is you never held the Dems accountable. You just parrot their talking points pretending everything is fine at all costs. That cost was another Trump term. You know this, but youll never admit it.

Not “probably,” it was absolutely the most ignorant, foolish and self destructive…we shot ourselves in the foot and can’t figure out why we are in pain and bleeding out

More gullible than dumb. It was the most successful billionaire propaganda campaign of all time. More successful than convincing Americans Oxycontin wasn't addicting, that tobacco made you cool, that healthcare is woke and fast food doesn't make you fat. Control the media and you control the mind.

Just 👀 a meme (maybe even yesterday?) showing Jim Jones leader of the People’s Temple who led his cultists to their deaths w/ poisoned Kool-Aid and a KJI (Kim Jung Un ‘s father) looking - Donald, huckster-in-chief who without a doubt would charge$ (probably include a gold🔱 emblazoned pitcher)

January 6th was a *failed political coup*, but a *successful epistemic coup.* The Insurrectionists lost the battle but won the war. They control the culture, all the mainstream platforms, and the future A.I. assisted narrative your children and grandchildren will learn moving forward.

It also indicates the complete lack of critical thinking skills of many voters. It’s not just a US problem. It’s an issue of not teaching political systems, problem-solving and other fundamental life skills to kids and teenagers in their formative years. Society reaps what it sows.

It's a society so dumb that it falls for all the lies posted in their Facebook feed. A lack of a critical thinking and an abundance of indoctrination got Trump elected. The manipulation of facts and the outright lies were allowed to seep into soft brains. This was a psyop that succeeded.

Getting mad at voters excising the only power they have is stupid. How about being mad at dem leadership that allowed this to happen. You can’t run an election on vote for us or it’s Trump. That got proven to be a failure in 2016.

I agree in that one. DNC insistence on loyalty to Biden at all costs to prevent a primary is what ultimately cost the election. It was a change election, the people wanted change, even if it was to go back to the "other guy".

He won a plurality, not a majority. He got 4M votes fewer than Biden in 2020. A South African billionaire bought him votes illegally & gave $250M to campaign. Musk also made an in-kind contribution of hundreds of millions by wrecking Twitter. He ran on lies. He has never beat a man in a general.

Well, when you have an ignorant (both willfully & woefully) electorate with a sole source of biased information, what else can you expect?

Brainwashed by the propaganda of medianetworks owned by billionaires. If people hear their entire life the same nonsense, a lot of them will believe it. Same with so many Americans always thinking and saying their country is the 'greatest'. No country is the greatest: just different.

Or the elections were fixed I’m not saying they were but there are questions without sufficient answers. Investigations unfinished and refused. When ppl would rather not know the truth that’s a problem. Being a sensitive I can usually gain insight that most ppl can’t if I can be objective

Admittedly, that’s a big challenge here but even still, something feels off. There hasn’t b en the type of scrutiny in 16 and 24 like there’s been for 20. Until there is there will be doubts

I blame Mitch McConnell, Paul Ryan and the rest of those cowards who allowed this 🍊 🐒 to get to where he is. It’s all on the f ing Republican Party.

The media lied every step of the way, tech overlords waged a misinformation war, and the "opposition" took every possible opportunity to cede moral and political ground. The actual vote was just the inevitable result of all that.

Republicans could have all stood against Trump and cast him out of the party, so I would argue it was also one of the greatest examples of political corruption and opportunism in history.

Well, from Europe, I would easily expand this group, unworthy of forgiveness, to include people who thought they could beat the system if they didn't vote at all or couldn't find anyone perfect from the selection 😡. And they are really screwing me over here in Europe too 🤬

I keep telling these self righteous people that couldn't be bothered to vote for Kamala that they are looked at as the heroes by the rest of the world. Even the people of Gaza they claim to stand in solidarity with are worse off since Trump doesn't see them as human beings.

Exactly. Their perfect solution 🤦‍♀️ And now, let's all clean up the mess after them. Because of course genocide is not happening also in Ukraine. Children and civilians are being abducted there, no one knows where they are being taken.

Yeeeeup. Look your system is rigged against smart choices prevailing, but it took a collective stupid effort to choose the LITERAL convicted felon who had already fucked it up the first time round.

Love you you don’t blame the opposition party who: failed to convict Trump, failed to run a candidate who listened to voters in 2024, won’t stand up to Trump now. But keep blaming voters if you think it will get you somewhere.

Voters have a duty to be pragmatic-and to start running for office. Local offices first. We never get the perfect candidate. None of us is perfect. But demanding 100 percent alignment or being single issue before agreeing to vote means you’ve already lost.

Pretty sad to see that so many Americans were willing to discount the events that happened on 01/06 and bought into all of Trump’s lies. While he was claiming Biden stole the election from him, he wanted his VP Mike Pence to do that exact same thing for him by not certifying electoral college votes.

Unfortunately, the majority of eligible voters DID NOT VOTE, so let's make sure that never happens again. When we vote, we win.

But trannies were taking over girls' sports and bathrooms. Immigrants were eating our pets and the local geese at the lake. It was all a disaster. I know, because Fox told me it was, over and over again.

We did Brexit, you did Trump (TWICE!! 😳🤦🏻‍♂️) - both countries have inflicted harm on themselves deliberately, knowing full well that’s exactly what would happen….

Others also includes social media (FB and X in particular). They fuel outrage and lies to keep people engaged in their platforms. I stopped corporate news, cable, and many news outlets. Now I read foreign news and watch YouTube independent media.

They voted to abolish democracy, the rule of law, and the international order that has kept the peace for 80 years. They voted to enslave themselves to corporations and the billionaires who own them. They also voted to empower Russia and destroy Ukraine.

Most of the mainstream media went along with Trump rewriting history into some sort of economic utopia before covid & then giving him an * for 2020 due to covid, even though his fucked up covid prep & response made it far, far worse.

The DNC running a candidate who no one nominated, one of the most unpopular VPs of modern times, who's strategy was courting "moderate Republicans" & telling struggling workers the economy was great while supporting genocide was political malpractice. Blame them. 🤷

1/6 was forgotten when he decided to exploit racism within the minorities with ‘they’re taking your jobs’, his voter growth was with minorities who said it was about eggs but it was deportations, the takeover of their neighborhoods by outsiders

Agree. I fear we are watching our country slip away due to authoritarian behavior. Dems are watching. Yesterday it was Venezuela without congressional approval; tomorrow it may be Greenland, then Cuba. History has shown us where this leads. Doesn’t this sound eerily similar to Hitler?

And for some reason democrats decided we weren’t going to have primaries for a stop gap 80 year old president. And then gave the nomination to a woman (I like Kamala. But terrible idea at the time) that ran on small business tax credits (which I also liked) You just had to run on Democracy!!!!!

It was inevitable given the media and political environment that was engineered. It took decades of hard work by right wing media and billionaires to get to this point, but this was always their goal.

America voted for this, they chose to set fire their house with everyone inside, nothing any of us on the outside can say or do about it, but what that makes us scared/furious is that that fire is spreading to our houses

Upshot: a hell of a lot of #Americans only care about themselves, and when push comes to shove, they don't give a damn about the country. But, you'll always see them wrapped in the American flag! A bunch of FAKES they are!

As a non American, the thing that was surprising for me was those on the left not voting because Harris was ‘not progressive enough’. True she wasn’t as progressive as many would have liked, but in systems where you got two main parties sometimes you have to go for the least worst.

75 million or so knew better. And several million more were ineligible to vote to stop this (children, immigrants, people living in states with messed up voting laws, etc). Yet all of us are paying the price for what the other 170 million people did (or didn't do) on Election Day.

Yes this is the root problem. I hear people say it’s the people’s fault because they’re racist, etc. and that may be true but how do fix that? It’d take generations. So we have to address the propaganda that makes people believe the “Dems are evil” tropes. Because of that they’ll continue to vote /1

How to fix that? By nominating a candidate that fits the public. If voters are racist and misogynistic don't put black women in the race. If Dems want to win the next election they should put white, ex-military male in the race. There's nothing Kamala Harris promised that Mark Kelly wouldn't do.

Children become racist or not by age three. If you can force/encourage people to place children in good daycare by age one where the children can be taught by non-racist persons with degrees in early childhood education, racism drops rapidly.

R even when the R’s doing things to make their lives worse. “Well prices are up and my health insurance doubled but at least we don’t have a Dem in office who’s gonna transition my kids and open up the borders!” /2

Case in point. This just came up in my feed. bsky.app/profile/atru...

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Trump: "Transgender for everyone! Bring your kids in, we're gonna change the sex of your child. Just send them our way. In some cases, like in Minnesota, they don't even tell the parents. Nobody believes it when I say it. They operate on the kid, they don't tell the parents. It's not believable."

And that is why much of the world will not forgive America. It wasn't an aberration or a lapse in judgment. It was a clear warning sign that the country was stampeding over a cliff. And no country survives that.

I think any rationalization is an implicit acknowledgment of your broader point. The US public’s susceptibility to media-induced ‘vibes’ is incompatible with a functioning democracy. It’s one thing for people not to vote on policy. But Trump(!!) being the personality pick?!?

Those that voted for him & STILL support him (including the GOP Congress) need to take a deep look into what went wrong in their lives that destroying their OWN finances, health, kids/ grandkids lives and reputations was WORTH it for the 1 who ONLY cares about HIMSELF. You have NO soul, NO morality

It seems like many lonely, angry, alcoholic, fox news boomers are essentially passively suicidal in their day to day lives, just waiting to die. They didn't need to take the system that granted them a lifetime of physical safety with them on the way out. Selfish losers.

Exactly! The deflection they have is wild. There was no cheating, but they keep saying that because they don’t want to look within or admit the racism & misogyny in this country is alive & well. The people that voted for him, stayed home & voted 3rd party is why we are here, they need to own it!

Yeah but what about the media companies who loved the drama and high ratings, and the Trump minions and hangers on who lie, cheat and steal every day on the media platforms to support Trump’s election?

“probably the dumbest collective voting decision we’ve ever made”. I agree, but we are still in the early days of this next-level stupidity. I don’t think we’re anywhere close to peak stupidity yet - not even halfway.

This is what we're dealing with so... bsky.app/profile/dizz...

Dizzygirl@dizzygirl.myatproto.social

This is the delusional stupidity that we are dealing with. And why is it, the dumber they are, the more fertile they are. 13 kids? The last pic is just... Trump voters usually don't fall for lies. Did ya'll know that? We are doomed.

Well I can say to be honest I didn't vote for this man or his bullshit. This is not on people who voted for Kamala Harris we did vote for the better person and we didn't ask for this shit from penis boy. I can't stand that people are bitching when they voted for trump.

You're neglecting to consider all of the cheating and also that the system is extremely flawed. Th GOP played the long game funded by the richest in society to rig the game to go their way no matter how many of us voted (or didn't vote because they recognized the futility).

we are not what is required of a democracy. that entails an INFORMED CITIZENRY. a plurality of Americans prefer the comforting lies of an incurious bigot, where all that's standing in the way of of some mythical greatness is the destruction/removal of an amorphous boogeyman. we'll all be an enemy

The best argument against democracy is that people are too stupid to make the correct (least worst) decision. But now what? Some of us may not "deserve" the consequences of that decision, but we're just as deep in the shit as those who do. We're all in this together, whether we like it or not.

Using those voting machines comes at a high price. "They're the only way for Republicans to win" like DJT himself said

All of < gestures everywhere /> can be laid at the feet of McConnell, who didn't want to impeach a traitor on the way out because it might make him unpopular. He chose to gamble that he couldn't recover instead. One moment of courage from one man in power could have stopped all of this.

Not on any day of his sorry career would Mitch have impeached Trump. Mitch doesn’t give a shit about popularity, either. Mitch cares about power and the perpetuation of Republicanism in whatever hideous form it takes. Mitch broke America.

split with my sister over this. sad. she's been a racist all her life but always kept pretty quiet about it. until last year's election, the mask came off completely. 1/

we grew up in Killeen TX. Army town - lots of German & Korean housewives, also Puerto Rican and black active/retired soldiers living there in the 1970s. Amazingly diverse for TX. 2/

sister's clique was always making racists jokes, breaking into the party (phone) lines shouting "ching chong chikky chit" "rum & spicola" "seig heil" etc. etc. to our foreign-speaking neighbors. childish shit so we didn't really condemn it, TX has a long racist tradition, so it was normal to us. 3/

Among many other things, the question of what to do about fully 20% of the US electorate being irredeemable is gonna fester. (And that's *if* we even get a democracy back, deeply flawed as it was. Which is no sure thing).

We're so cooked. It's insane what MAGA and "President" Dumpty have done here. And beyond his fake "assassination attempt", I'll never not believe he & Musk stole 2024. Kamala/Dems mistakes aside, there's zero part of me that believes Drumpf didn't do what he always does - lie, cheat, steal.
