if there was a rich person with the will, you could build the most incredible news organization that has ever existed just from the wreckage of this year alone.

I was laid off from Teen Vogue today along with multiple other staffers, and today is my last day. certainly more to come from me when the dust has settled more, but to my knowledge, after today, there will be no politics staffers at Teen Vogue.

Yup. They're all extremely cheap to feed and everything. And they're motivated, lacking ennui, fired up. um, Nick 'Pitchforks' Hanauer? Probably not Mark Cuban, his medicine interests aside. There's GOTTA be somebody.

I was thinking the same thing. What a collection of great great reporters are available. Time to start something new and impervious to corporate control. Time for a large nonprofit news org funded by an endowment managed by an independent board.

There are so many rich people with the money and will, they’re the ones buying up all the media operations and turning them into propaganda outlets for the oligarch class. We gotta stop with the “if only we could find *good* billionaires.”

Yeah, I wish some regular people would just band together, pool their resources, and create a media outlet to employ all these great journalists who keep getting fired by billionaires. Looking to billionaires for salvation is futile. They're the problem, not the solution.

I held out some dim hope that Oprah might buy the Chicago Tribune when it was for sale a few years ago. Chicago was good to her and she has the cash. But.. no. Was never a fan, though. Way too much fawning over her.

I fully expect to eventually find out that the Baltimore Banner- which LOOKS like a rich person trying to do a cool hands-off journalism thing- isn't nearly the noble endeavor it seems to be. ...but for now it's a cool outfit with cool writers and it's FAR better than the Baltimore Sun.

Honest question for the curious: How much do you think that would take to run well for, say, 3 years? I don't ask to be the "hmm, what a good idea! too bad nothing will ever matter" guy but because my concept of large-scale finance is doodoo.

I think that freedom minded billionaires like Mark Cuban should buy the Corporation For Public Broadcasting and hire many of the brilliant journalists who have been recently ousted. Think of the existing infrastructure and vast reach. We could do away with All Things Considered, too (Bonus!).

I seem to recall this being how the Washington Post recovered a few years ago. Until it didn't, of course. That's the problem with rich people owning the news.

The fact that we have to look to superhero comic books to find billionaires & multimillionaires who actively work to improve their communities with housing, healthcare, & jobs programs to lift people out of poverty only reinforces my mantra: we need to end the concept and existence of billionaires

Blatant woke propaganda rag. The house of cards is really tumbling now if even the teenage girls have had enough. Politics staffers of Teen Vogue, lol. Were any teen girls even reading it, or was it all just middle-aged she-hers wanting advice about boys & their imaginary periods?
