Hahhahaha perfect timing. "Hey everyone you're getting cold feet about ai capex, great news, we need more money than anyone has ever asked for. Also we aren't going to make as much from selling access to our actual models, just our error ridden search engine that drives people insane."

There seems to be confusion about what 'agent' means in these companies. Co-pilot advertised the ability to create 'agents' however when I fiddled with it this is just creating a default load out of prompt to specify where the model should be focused. Time-saving maybe but no 'agency' is involved.

He said that in 2019 and every time somebody mentions it they leave that out. That was before ChatGPT. I literally delete any post about this on the Reddit

There has to be some level of corporate malfeasance where the usual rules and punishments go out the window. $118 billion lit on fire between now and 2029 should result in, at minimum, a public caning, Singapore-style.

Okay it should be a much bigger deal that they reduced their projections for selling agents by $26bn, and no, the reason isn't "they'll build them into ChatGPT," it's because they don't god damn work. Sam Altman said this was the year that agents would change the workforce! Nasty!

When this is all over all that will be left standing will be a few smiling billionaires like Altman wondering how the fuck did we manage to pull it off! Nobody will go to gaol, plenty of nobodies will lose their shirts though.

I don't ever wanna hear anybody in politics say "Where will we get the money" again There are clearly billions of dollars floating around in the economy that we're willing to throw in a bonfire pit

At this point are they just holding on till the end of the year when they need to become for profit, and hope they'll still get the money from SoftBank? Just playing chicken with everyone while they can

🤣🤣🤣 "We're investing in our own compute which we can totally resell to others" We're totally not in a global glut of compute with other players already turning off the tap on new projects and under threat by lower intensity Chinese products 🤣🤣🤣

this is what happens when growth is all that matters, you end up pouring money into a money furnace chasing promises from guys that look like they’re strung out on a week long bender

It's a small point, but the CFO's comment about OpenAI renting out server capacity like Amazon does seems like nonsense. Amazon can do that because it doesn't need all those servers to run its business. But OpenAI seems to need all the servers it can get to run its core business.

Could be mentioned as a possible fall back business model to calm the nerves of investors who are starting to smell something. But that will fail too without AI needing them.

where the hell are they getting "2 billion weekly users" from "oh yeah we expect a quarter of the people on the planet to use our product" even windows doesn't have that level of market penetration

Lmao holy shit At first I was like "huh yeah this looks like it could be the start of an s and it hasn't tailed off yet, that's a funny inflection on the green line though" And then I noticed the labels on the x axis

I love the fact they can plainly say "We'll burn your cash and make no income from it" and then raise another 7 billion. And by "love" I mean I really want to set something on fire right now...

There's an episode of How Money Works that pointed out China's already won the AI race. Our electrical grid is decrepit 1960s vintage - it's falling apart. Meanwhile, China has a nice new grid that they are constantly expanding and upgrading. They can power those data centers. We can't.

Based on what Ive read China is now comfortably in the lead, in terms of usefulness if not raw compute. I cant say whether or not they are seeing the kind of productivity improvements that they’re aiming for, but theyre working to a way more coherent plan www.ginc.org/chinas-natio...
