Here is a public service announcement filmed by the Dallas Cowboys in the 1980s, and I promise that you would not correctly guess who pops up at the end if I gave you 10,000 tries

At the risk of spoiling it: “BUT” is such a funny word to say after a sentence like “equal employment opportunity IS the law, and it WILL be enforced”

Thank God. Readers need to know how Landry’s use of Cosbie foreshadowed the emergence of Sharpe, Gonzalez, and other dual-threat TEs in the 1990s

Reagan was a witting instrument of other people's power. The deal was he got to live like a god emperor, basking in pomp, praise, and honors, invited to state visits, and the actual power brokers would manage things. Someone said, "launch this tool," and he did. Being an empty husk was a bonus.

Clarence Thomas is a lifelong fan of the Dallas Cowboys and became a personal friend of owner Jerry Jones who would gift him all sorts of things. If the Cowboys had an employment dispute Thomas would likely take the owner's side.

EEOC specifically? No As soon as they said "and a team works together" and it was the 80s and the racial composition of the shots and I knew instantly it was race related What specific form, from "Dont Say Slurs" to "Hire Black People" etc, thats tricky But the broad strokes are pretty obvious

That BUT from CT is telling. Sounds like he thinks equal employment should be a matter of personal responsibility, but it happens to also be a law (for now). At least that’s ideologically consistent: social change through motivating individuals not regulating them.

I knew he worked there, but it's a weird ad. "The EEOC will assist you in being a team player by burying your complaint and reminding you to stop fighting the man." ----- Of course, today we have a white nationalist in there focused on "reverse racism."

Let's see. It has to be someone who was around and popular in the 1980s. Okay, ready to start my 10,000 guesses. 1. The guy is called Doug Cosbie, and The Cosby show was the top show on TV at the time, so maybe Bill Cosby? 2. Or maybe ALF? Had a popular show and would be unexpected.

3. - 12. He plays on the Dallas Cowboys, and Dallas was a popular TV show, so maybe someone from the cast of Dallas? I'll count that as ten guesses. O.J. Simpson wouldn't be that unexpected since it's already a football commercial, so we'll leave him out.

13. Maybe a Texas politician, possibly someone who became more prominent in the future? Perhaps George W. Bush, the son of the vice president? 14. Dunno if he'd be that unexpected, but Chuck Norris during the Walker, Texas Ranger years?

Can you spell H-Y-P-O-C-R-I-T-E? During Thomas' confirmation hearing, where allowed the aggressive grilling of accuser Anita Hill & failed to call corroborating witnesses, ultimately aiding Thomas's narrow confirmation. Biden voted nay, but the damage was already done. Biden got us Thomas.
