Distrust of the media is not a big problem. The problem is that people who have a healthy skepticism of the mainstream media throw that skepticism aside to embrace the dumbest, least reputable, most obvious grifters and liars ever to curse this planet with their presence.

Scoop: During a trip to DC last week, CNN CEO Mark Thompson made a visit to the White House, where he promoted the network’s new streamer Staffers were taken aback the next morning when Thompson urged them to ease up on East Wing renovation coverage www.status.news/p/mark-thomp...

Let's just start with crucifying Howard Dean for showing genuine enthusiasm with his base! Swiftboating Kerry, and there is not enough space to write about what the fuking media did to HRC! Let's end with WAPO outlining in detail, Bill Clinton's blow job and cigar sex! To undisclosed Epstein Files!

HA! Lamestream media is run by oligarchs and wealthy bastards who are trump minions and don’t understand how important a free press is to democracy. ABC, NBC CBS FUXX News is a Republican propaganda company.

Even CBC is problematic. Their mandate of providing a both sides perspective was fine when we had fiscal Cons, Liberals, and progressives (NDP, Green). All mainstream parties were moderate, none extreme. But now that the Cons have taken up fascism, giving them equal voice is undermining democracy.

Firstly 4 years is longer than 10 months. Secondly the number of Covid deaths under Biden included a large number of people who refused the vaccine just because it was Biden giving it out. Her logic implies it's the Democrats fault for that. How? Because they won the election instead of Trump?

wow, that is truly delusional. Biden faced up to the pandemic and ended it only after two even more deadly waves. We read the death count every day for the first year and a half of Joe Biden's presidency. Somehow this was memory holed in order to elect Trump. But Covid was covered under Biden.

So Lorenz Taylor is blaming Biden for the Covid deaths? This is some delusional shit. Biden kept on message - masking and social isolation. Biden wasn't in charge of local governments. After the vaccine and deaths went way down for vaccinated folk the CDC changed their guidance.

I increasingly think that most people have either willfully forgotten what happened between 2020 and 2022 or cemented into their memories an almost completely fabricated version of it that validates and valorized their traumatic experiences of those years.

The Trump White House began politicizing COVID mitigation efforts that involved social cooperation as soon as it learned that, statistically, Black, poor & elderly people bore a disproportionate share of the casualties. MSM, by & large, failed to note the admin's politicization or . . .

. . . to connect the politicizaxn to the distribuxn of harm revealed by the data. That's bc politicizaxn served as as rationalizaxn to simultaneously elide Trump's lie that COVID wld not spread & in fact wld disappear, & justify unfettered econ & social interacxn, wch served corp/MSM interests.

did anything else happen pandemic-wise during Biden's term. was there a gigantic free vaccine rollout for example. or universal free tests. or an eviction moratorium and workplace vaccine mandate that both got shot down by SCOTUS. I guess we'll never know

Taylor Lorenz got caught being without a mask at her book launch event after scolding everyone for not wearing a mask well past 2020. Her excuse was she paid thousands to have continuous clean air ventilation. Gee, not everyone has that disposable wealth and trusted the efficacy of a free vaccine.

The "let the poor die, just get these horrible children out of my house and let me get back to lunching" campaign began pretty much immediately. It only let up for awhile because that set got extremely anxious about youngs and blacks in the streets and then MAGA insurrectionists for about 10 months

Mounk’s “take off that mask” article was May of 2021, and Nate Silver’s “school closures were worse than Iraq” tweet was like January of 2022 so my question I guess is why am I getting lectured here

The degree to which SCOTUS is responsible for obstructing any health policy that is an inch to the left of center really needs to be reckoned with. Medicare-for-all would not survive a constitutional lawsuit under the current iteration of SCOTUS. The ACA Medicaid expansion barely survived it in 2012

These things happened in 2020 and fulfilled Biden's campaign promises. And yet in 2021 and beyond his team did exactly what the screenshot says: minimize the ongoing impact of COVID and get people "back to work" and in-person while hundreds of thousands were still dying, vaccinated or not.

Did red states start opening up and ending covid restrictions? Did half the GOP refuse to get the shot, thus prolonging the pandemic? Did the right spread non-stop misinformation about covid? Did two variants hit while half the country was insisting it was no different than the flu?

I had a vague idea that Lorenz was best ignored but couldn’t really remember why I had that impression. After reading this quotation, I’m glad to know that impression was very much correct!

Re: the more people died under Biden than Trump from COVID point, this argument is a great illustration in why no one trusts the media. The argument is tedious and flawed. For instance, 1) about 100k of the deaths (at the start of 2021) were baked in from Trump’s term

2) a substantial fraction, perhaps almost half, of the remaining deaths were due to vaccine refusal 3) COVID lasted 10 months under Trump and, well, 4 years under Biden (including two major mutations that both caused large surges)

I don’t like Taylor, but this is true. When Biden became president, everybody decided Covid was over. Lots of news outlets were doing some horrendous racism to any country that still cared about Covid. She’s both part of the problem and pointing out a real one.

If you take out the framing around who was president when and just look at how the media handled the pandemic, the observation is absolutely correct. Vaccines didn't end the pandemic. Hundreds of thousands have died since their rollout. But the media pretended because that's what the owners wanted.

I think that's charitable given that the framing of Biden being president is the one she explicitly chose (“Biden essentially came in and said, ‘COVID’s over. Everybody get back to work.”) she could have said Biden was acceding to media pressure if that's what she meant here.

And it is an utterly false assertion. The vaccine wasn't even released until after Biden took office. So every single bit of vaccine-related policy and promotion happened during the Biden Administration. Red states started abandoning measures in the summer of 2021. Not the Federal Government.

This is the stupidest of all things. Do they not understand how a denominator works? 10 months versus 48 months, and nevermind that they only continued at that pace because a certain party said to just ignore vaccines

It was 10 months of "novel virus with no vaccine" vs. 48 months of "vaccines available". If you want to argue that vaccines aren't that effective....well, that's Lorenz's point, Biden should never have said "pandemic of the unvaccinated."

higher rates of covid deaths in red counties because those people were still believing all of the felon's lies about a deadly virus - even AFTER the vaccines were available. Because there is no vaccine for ignorance www.npr.org/2022/05/19/1...

npr.orgPro-Trump counties continue to suffer far higher COVID death tollsAs Americans commemorate a million deaths due to COVID-19, the partisan divide of who has gotten sick and died continues to grow, mostly due to disinformation about the vaccines.

This is just an insane, ahistorical take. All restrictions were in place until the vaccine was rolled out and then republicans refused to get vaccinated and stopped taking any precautions. Then the deaths went up.

yeah, that's it. like half the people who died after 2020 were killed by conservative media, Biden tried to save them but the Republican Party stopped him

And then when the next wave hit, I saw the infections skyrocket but the deaths didn't follow like the previous waves. It was clear the vax did its job but for some reason people like Taylor refused to accept that.

The US media formally known as “the press“ hasn’t been doing their job for over a decade. Independent media is who we owe our support to! The four major networks can fuck right off 🖕 He’s already done this to the media, how far down the list do you think YOU are?
