"Bluesky is awesome now, for how long?" I mean, look, all things change and end, we will all die, earth will be uninhabitable in a billion years, then the sun will expand and destroy the planet, and the universe will die a slow death of proton decay. But BEFORE THAT, let's make this place fun, okay?

‪Ok, I'll bite. Will take the cuddly dog who wants us to admire his soft toy offered by Henry Gee‬ ‪@endofthepier.bsky.social‬ and raise you two (2) adorable snoozing kitty "sisters"....at least that's that they told us at the shelter when the deal was take both or take neither!

What I miss the most about the old Twitter is that it used to be a platform where we could engage in meaningful conversations and debates. And still have a great time with it. I'm genuinely glad to see that @bsky.app is trying to bring that back in some way, shape and form.

I'll be honest, I hadn't previously used twitter before coming here. I guess you can't be part of an Xodus if you were never there to begin with. But it seems nice here, and I hope it continues to grow, if anything just to prove it's not the marxist echo chamber it's being labelled as.

Anxiety, that asshole, always tells us we can’t keep nice things for long. We need to reply “nice things don’t last forever, but new nice things can and do replace them and eventually we won’t even care about losing the last nice thing.

Yep. I think a lot of people are arriving here skittish like shelter animals, not trusting other humans. Give them some treats some time and a warm place to sleep and they’ll be fine.

My thought exactly. I know it's going to change, and not for the better — I learned just moments ago that Andrew Tate jumped aboard, only to get himself banned in less than 24 hrs — but I'm gratified that, like you, I was here at the beginning, building from the ground up. Glad to meet you. 🥂

OK, fair point... no one has *observed* proton decay. It remains hypothetical, as there are no witnesses to the heat death of the universe. Unless you're a fan of multiverse theory (maybe an improbable lie to comfort anyone fretting over the end of the universe) - then entropy will always increase.

correction: entropy will always increase in a closed system. The only Get-Out-Of-Heat-Death card that can be played here is if the universe is *not* a closed system.

When I was younger the thought that nothing matters was so defeating and depressing, like what is it all for But then I grew older a bit and looked around and nothing mattering (nuanced) def has been liberating, all these before me felt the same things and yet they just did, as will I

When I was a kid, I actually cried when I understood entropy properly and the thought that everything I observed would be gone someday. (My Physics professor was playing "Dust in the Wind" after a particularly difficult exam - I just read about the heat death of the universe in Scientific American)

whoa -- I think that might be positive nihilism in a nutshell: This is nice, eh? It won't last, but let's make the best of it while we are here. I get it, but as Miguel de Cervantes says: "I have never had the courage to believe in nothing". Sure, an "impossible dream", but I'm powered on hope

That said, what you say is true 💯%. But maybe advances in science will help humanity survive and our descendants will find a habitable planet before the earth is destroyed - after we're all dead, of course. But hey - at least maybe our great-great-great-great-great-great-whatever might have a life 🫠

I’m 66 , I don’t give a flying fuck what happens in 50 years time I already know the planet is fucked. I also know this is a totally selfish idea. But after 50 years of marching and protesting , I’m done. This is a totally mad world and I’m just gonna sit back and watch the carnage. 🤓

Earth will be uninhabitable MUCH sooner if we fail to change course! We are repeating the Permian Mass Extinction pattern of destroying the phytoplankton that makes 70% of Earth's oxygen by Ocean Acidification. Tropical oceans have lost 40% O² production in the last 50 years! Bluesky may help shift.

5 million to 7 billion years* let’s be real the earth may survive 7 billion years which is half of all observable time. Our world governments should have plans for 1,000,000 years in the future but no they openly only plan in periods no larger than 100 years.

A big disappointment has been Tribal.com. I'm tired of seeing women showing me a boob, a piercing of a body part I don't want to see. The offers of money and financial "experts" offering to fix my finances, crypto or trying to selling me something. I block a lot. I hope it doesn't happen here.

Honestly if they screw this place up really bad, I’ll just go to another one. I used to discuss stuff in newsgroups, then forums, MySpace, Facebook, etc. Nothing is forever.

I'd love for this place to stay fun, but I've already seen one swastika account, two very loud MAGATS and a tinder style DM that was one demeaning word away from being a dick pic and a question mark. We're going to have to stay on top of it to keep this place nice.

Fine. If we must. Valid point, yet we may need just a wee bit more time to wallow in our cups and copses. I don’t think I’ve ever used copse in a sentence before. And you were here for it. Epic.

That's fair. My almost 13-year old granddaughter uses big words correctly about 75% right. The other 25% of the time, I feel out of touch with her generations lingo, until I realize it was just used incorrectly. She does use audacity correctly, so I often hear about the audacity of 7th graders.

Bot farms are a means to an end whether it be influence, money or simply trolling. As Bluesky continues to grow Bots will start to flood into the app peddling misinformation and distorted the discussion and algorithm. It’s part of what turned Twitter into a cesspit. That’s what I’m worried about.

Bluesky’s great now, and yeah, everything ends—proton decay, heat death, the whole cosmic drama. But until then, let’s keep this place fun, weird, and un-Twitter. If the sun’s gonna swallow us eventually, we might as well vibe until then. 🕺🏼

SHOW US THE ETHICS REPORT ON MATT GAETZ. It's time to stand up people. Why do we have an ethics committee if they hide the truth? The first thing said in our constitution is We The People and it's time for we the people to stand up for our country. Call 1=202-225=7103 NOW.

Agreed. Though I am interested in whether the fun-lifetime of social media platforms can be predicted. I think FB had about 15 years. Xitter had about 10. Will bluesky last longer because the rules are better, or be killed more quickly by outside hostility?

The media is SO pushing for this fvcking war between the two owners of the platforms: it's obvious!!🤌🏽 I can't turn on the TV or the radio and not hear someone promoting this app. Threads is going nowhere, but there's some real manipulation shit going on here😬

In 2016, #Microsoft released Tay—an #AI chatbot on #Twitter. Within hours, the bot was spouting racist, xenophobic rhetoric. Around the same time another bot, XiaoIce, was released on a Chinese platform. The bot was joyous & helpful. Users respected it. A kinder platform is completely possible.

It’s all about the feedback/reward system that #BlueSky designs the experience around, and how we as users support it. The true test will come when monetization kicks in. And I sincerely hope we don’t destroy it. I’ve missed this.

I find it annoying but amusing that millions of Twitter engagement farmers have showed up and are employing all their tricks to fool the algorithm into making them Bluesky celebrities, without realizing that the only algorithm here is "posts from people you follow, in chronological order".

When Earth becomes uninhabitable, there won't be any blue skies because of the swelling of our sun. However, I am having fun because the sun is normal sized right now.
