Orange man gone isn't enough. We need you to all be so embarrassed about this shit that your dumbest uncle will just say he's never been into politics.

The things that these people think are cool always turns out to be the most pathetic loser shit you could possibly imagine. If a friend of mine walked into a room and caught me reading this dribble and taking is seriously, I think I would immediately die of shame.

You know,,,, it’s starting to sound like the president, who ran on and won because of a very real anger at people struggling to afford a comfortable life, then decided to pull every lever he possibly could to make the situation worse

feels like at least part of what is happening is that a lot of people want politics to solve the "my life feels empty" problem and the populist right is directly appealing to them

Once you look past superficial appearances, rambling blog posts, earnest fan fiction, and their own self-lionizing, what has always struck me with so many of these TESCREAL dudes is their profound intellectual laziness. Not true of all of them, certainly, but definitely true of the most vocal ones.

The hard part about housing policy discourse is that there has genuinely been movement at all three levels of government, beyond what I could have hoped for back when I started on the file, but that it doesn't come close to meeting the scale of the problem.

There's this really odd pattern with Bari Weiss, JD Vance, Richard Hanania etc, where they rise to prominence because their main skill is cultivating the friendship of wealthy patrons, but it's impossible to figure out how they do it because they constantly exude a pungent strain of anti-charisma.

this is a genuinely crazy story

Scott Horton@robertscotthorton.bsky.social

NYT has now independently corroborated all the major allegations against Susan Collins in the ProPublica report, including that investigators were prepared to move against her and then Trump intervened to shut it down. This put Trump in a position of exceptional and extortionate leverage over her.

The Washington Post has become a joke and their Opinion section is especially responsible for that decline.

Edward Luce@edwardluce.bsky.social

"Out of spite for President Donald Trump, Carney is accelerating the decoupling of a trade bloc that has generated enormous prosperity for North America." Seriously, Wapo editorial - you're going with Canadian spite? www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/202...

BCP Curt reposted

The US already got a do over. A mulligan. A second chance. Much of the world, especially US allies, were ready to write off Trump’s first term as a fluke. The American people’s choice to put him back in power—as a convicted felon, after an openly bigoted, anti-democracy campaign—showed it was not.

Max Fawcett@maxfawcett.bsky.social

This is the part many Americans -- including the Bezosites at the Washington Post -- don't understand. Canadians don't see this just as a Trump thing. It's that America elected him twice, and the second time with an even bigger mandate. The problem we're addressing is America, not Trump.

the sum total of Sam Alito’s jurisprudence on voting adds up to “You have the right to vote for a Republican and if you aren’t likely to vote for a Republican, then Republicans are allowed to disenfranchise you.”

BCP Curt reposted

Genuinely an insane paragraph from Sam Alito. “Voter fraud is real and scary and we have to stop it, so the fact that implementing Trump’s mail ballot rule will disenfranchise millions is legally irrelevant.” Brain melted. A right-wing podcaster in a robe. www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/25p...

Dear Democrats, You will never be able to triangulate your way through racism/sexism/transphobia, because pushing a lighter, politer form of bigotry is always a lose-lose proposition. The bigots want the uncut stuff, while normal people aren't drawn to cowards who sell out. Stand your ground.

Since 1981, Democratic presidents have overseen the creation of 3 times as many private-sector jobs as their Republican counterparts. Excluding Reagan, the net private-sector job growth of the past 3 GOP presidents is zero.

If this was about electoral advantage — the thing reactionary centrists claim as their expertise — they would be writing about how this entire issue is a distraction. If you are concerned about the influence of fringe radicals over policymaking, Republicans are the bigger threat. Of course they are.
