Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

1) vance has this weird preoccupation with demanding that people show him gratitude 2) this is just another expression of the idea that some americans don’t count and at most should be seen and not heard

Posting with initial capitals and no final period is bluesky style. Replies should be made in lowercase. Quote dunks may also be lowercase if they are six words or less

WIRED@wired.com

today, lowercase can be clickbait, or a strategy of gen z-ers to read as less intense. it can also be a status symbol, or a way to signal human authorship. finally, pockets of the internet still see lowercase as somehow antiestablishment.

Metallica are probably at all 4 poles of the political compass. Hetfield strikes me as a gold fringed flag libertarian, Ulrich is turbo fash, Hammett is a stoner ancom, and Trujillo is Marxist-Leninist

One under-discussed aspect of the vibecession is how interest rates for credit cards, autos, and mortgages all jumped in 2022 with the Fed hikes then never came back down. It's hardly a surprise consumers get bad vibes from that.

SC because not trying to pile on, but Chesa was (in part, not monocausal, etc) successfully recalled by SFPD sandbagging. I personally know people in the city told by on duty cops “sorry can’t arrest this obviously dangerous person threatening you, due to the DA”. Like, it worked.

Hate it when you see what you think is a cool bird and you look it up later and it’s called like the Common Dumb Asshole. “Birders throughout history have hated its guts. It can’t even fly right.” I thought I saw an interesting guy.

Killed. NSF’s SBE was killed, in violation of law. The President does not have the power to choose to kill programs at a whim by defunding them. The imperial presidency was a mistake and we are in a separation of powers constitutional crisis.

LA is HOT. But does it have to be this hot? Did you know shade from a single tree can drop temps by 20° or more? Yet working-class neighborhoods like South LA, East LA, and the Valley get the least tree coverage and bear the brunt of extreme heat. Let's finally cool things down for everyone.

I love interview discourse because everyone has their fussy little demands, but the hiring decisions never have anything to do with it. This guy came in without ironing his shirt, can you believe it? Oh the next guy has a Def Leppard shirt on. Hysteria or Pyromania? Hell yeah welcome aboard

Is asking someone to leave the beverages at home for an interview as fussy as reminding a lady to wear pantyhose or a gentleman to ask before lighting a cigarette? We assembled a team of Post staffers across the newsroom — and commenters — to find out: https://wapo.st/4dwx0LS

It's too depressing and obnoxious to write about, but virtually all of the doomy/horny AI hyperventilating is transparently displaced anxiety about our fucked climate and political situation. Even rich idiots know it's bad and being permitted to get worse. They're trying to write their own ending.

A triumphal monument but also a drone surveillance panopticon is a concept so abysmally kitschy and a overwrought even focault would be surprised

Mike Rothschild@rothschildmd.bsky.social

The popular theory is that Trump is building military installations full of drones and snipers because he plans to never leave office. I think there is an alternate explanation: he has severe paranoia from multiple assassination attempts, and spends every moment in DC in abject fear for his life.
