What's going on in the midwest is a large refinery in Illinois is down which reduced supply and increased transport costs to deliver fuel over longer distances.

I buy mid when it's available b/c it's just a 89/93 mix so you get some premium by accident; when I do, I know I am betraying my only reliable long-distance vehicle

It's a slightly unfair comparison, though. We've got an affordable healthcare system, (mostly) reasonable sized cars, some usable public transport, a more realistic minimum wage and actual workers rights while paying a bit more for our petrol. (It should still be cheaper over here, though)

I feel like that's a given. But they're social things rather than economic 😁 (Note in case anyone else wants to weigh in with "well actually": just because the UK government aren't senile with dementia doesn't mean that we have perfect politics. They're still pandering to bigotry and media hype)

This is still as high as I’ve ever seen it. Also the Sharon park shell is all in the 7’s, another criminally priced locale.

Cheapest .fi gas prices as of today are ~9.14 dollars per gallon (converted from euros per litre) so it's not that bad, really.

I mean, I'm feeling pretty good about being able to commute by bicycle, but that's probably not feasible for most USians due to land use policies, etc.

I think it’ll be pretty funny that the gas price increases will be the thing that tips the US over to use the metric system. Wait - is this mathing right? CDN $3.21/litre? The web says it’s ~2.60/litre in Ottawa CAN

yeah I have my doubts you can advertise your way out of this especially because the reason for it is “started an unnecessary war for no reason”

what will be stronger: $100 trillion in GOP advertising, or Americans looking at $100/gallon gas? guess we'll find out

It's not that the propaganda industrial complex doesn't work. It absolutely works. They get like a thirty point advantage. It is just that they also govern so impossibly badly that they erode even that. The worst is they can make Americans believe it is our fault for not fixing their mess faster.

Ugh Gabe Evans has been running all kinds of ads about "the progressive war on energy" and I'm like you guys started a literal war that's spiking oil prices, ffs. 🤦‍♀️

If you tell people that everything is great when everything is in fact not great, individuals will think they, personally, are being screwed over and vote accordingly.

Extremely cool that there's so little to worry about and everything is going so incredibly well that we have an infinite capacity for democrats to spend 100% of their time absolutely clawing their flesh and rending their garments because someone placed 11th in a private school badminton match.

You won't find opposition here, I've advocated on here for Marcy Kaptur to be censored and ejected from the caucus and made a point of supporting some of the best trans allies running for Congress. I've called for these rotten consultants pushing the bigotry to be fired, I'd love to hear some names.

The whole trans phobia scare was never about trans per se, it was about deflection / distraction IE that Biden admin was prioritizing DEI over every other issue - which of course isn’t true. Fast forward Trump is genuinely distracted with his Liberace ballroom and corruption.

no. transphobes are genuinely hateful individuals. Not everything is a distraction, conservatives are rancid bigots in many ways transphobia existed long, long before Joe Biden was President. it existed as a GOP legislative priority before then too! the difference is how it's leaked to some Dems

The gop are trying to place some of the blame onto Ukraine. Because defending your land against a genocidal aggressor is not ok if oil gets involved? I can't even.

“you think your cyberpunk dystopia has high gas prices? you are like little baby, watch this”

This post is unavailable.

We have absolutely passed a ton of scary cyberpunk dystopian landmarks. Things that are just... going on now ( I refuse to call them normal)

A while ago a young gas station attendant was flirting with me - until I told him I already had my driver's license when our (German) politicians swore gas would never cost as much as a Euro per liter. (Currently 2.40.) He did not even remember that time. I'm older than I look in gas station light.

One of the best things about Calvin and Hobbes is that thing where you have insights into the characters that they can't have about themselves. We can look at Calvin's parents and say "oh, I see where he gets it from!"

HS Teacher here: I frequently post Calvin and Hobbs cartoons on my daily powerpoint splash screen that kids see when they walk into class to know what we are doing that day. Shocking how many of them have no idea what Calvin and Hobbes is. But I guess not surprising, how would they know?

Those were already funny when that came out. We got prices like that after Katrina plus European prices have been at or above that for quite some time.

Ads need to be seen, either on TV or while scrolling. You can ignore or give them your attention You can't ignore that you're paying more at the pump, that your grocery bill is much higher, or that the data center is causing chaos next door Hard for Rs to contest a lived reality
