Those who can completely “opt out” of or be least affected by societal change of this scale are those w/ privilege. This isn’t a condemnation, but it’s to say many militant anti-AI leaders are fostering an environment that will result in *less* privileged people being more negatively impacted by AI.

Americans: "There is only one language. It's English. If someone has something important to say they can translate it" (note: it's not the right that have this opinion) Also Americans: "Oh shit twitter has autotranslate on posts now that's so innovative that's so amazing" Also Americans: "Fuck AI"
being anti AI is a luxury belief only available to first world people, especially Americans imagine how important machine translation is for people whose first languages aren't that common

even our socialists worship capital
People are celebrating or mourning the Ant IPO, but I'm still trying to understand the worldview where frontier labs not being profitable *would have proven* AI isn't transformative. I think it's maybe a capitalist mysticism where social life is mostly Illusion, and only the Profitable is Real?

I hate the idea that the inherently queer stance is anti-AI that some people seem to think is the default. I've had people question if I'm even a woman, and call me a tech bro, and it's like they're in active psychosis lmao. If you can't respect me as a woman you're a bigot, AI or not.
brah i didn't know there were so many trans ppl who like ai on bsky this is fucking crazy !!!!!!

did you know you can spend $100 and get a chunk of sapphire that could be used as a melee weapon? https://store.gemsofscience.com/products/optical-sapphire-cores-and-wafers

I have seen some absolutely wicked racism in "progressive" spaces lately from people who literally say "learn English or shut the fuck up" because of how much they hate machine translation

it’s funny how anti-AI people will talk about how “AI” is a really broad umbrella term and that we need to keep in mind that there are lots of types of “AI”, but then they are always the first ones to jump to wild conclusions about what kind of AI I’m referring to when I say “AI” lol
my nuclear-grade AI hot take that’s sure to get me cancelled until kingdom come is that refusing to use AI at all is rapidly becoming an extremely privileged lifestyle choice that feels social justice-y while actually being the complete opposite

it's also worth considering that people who are old are more likely to be willing to be like "yeah this AI stuff will probably change how things work, and that's fine" because they're no longer invested in the idea that their specific way of doing things is eternal
i know comparing everyone to christian fundamentalists is a bit passé, but some people truly do believe in binary "you are good or evil" and any drop of "evil" is total and contaminates your soul, even retroactively like "tarnish everything he ever accomplished".. dude phoned it in on a sticker

i don't think it's that crazy it's a lot harder to use public money to build a complicated interconnected grid of rail infrastructure than it is to use private money to build a bunch of big warehouses. like i don't think it's great only one of those is possible but what i do not think it is is crazy

underrated reason to block liberally is that getting harassed/exposed to insane persecutory opinions puts you at risk of becoming a reactionary/extremist purely so ur limbic system feels safe
It's important not to let the (charitably: small fraction of) anti-ai people who are pulling the whole "look at these gross autists with broken brains" thing polarize you into being a reactionary

My current stance is that AI can write "page turner fanfiction" levels at best but also the gatekeepers of taste have been revealed to have no clothes.
a) that award committees aren't so smart b) that award committees don't care about quality c) that ai can write good fiction (honestly not my impression, but I've never tried to convince one to write a book) d) that it's all relative, and a crapshoot, and ai is just more crapshoot entries

New blog post up: if you've been paying close attention to LLM prices, you may have noticed that they have dropped *significantly* over the past few months, which is not what I expected. minimaxir.com/2026/10/chea...

the more we see people who actually know ball, artistically, working with these tools, the better the results we're going to get; one reason they took off early with code is because it was easier to objectively verify correctness of basically boilerplate shit + coders more willing to jam w/ robots

I see autistic masking discourse going around again. Neurotypical social norms *are* understandable. Acting neurotypical is doable if high effort (my mom is like this). You can get a long way by being a kind of weird that doesn't rub people the wrong way, which is much easier. But it hinges on this:

I feel this way when people bemoan not being able to write the code anymore.
AI bucks some trends in technology by being *less* popular with 20-somethings, and I wonder how much of this is subtly about differences in perspectives about time. At 20, I felt like I had unlimited time. At 38, I feel like I certainly have a lot left but can't waste it.
