Lula:
"We had to overcome foreign interference through digital platforms, which we will have to regulate. A crime in the digital world must be treated the same as a crime in the real world.
We cannot have monstrous companies earning millions... not paying taxes... wanting to steer elections."
I am once again begging Americans to understand that speeding/red light cameras which only do anything if someone is speeding/goes through a red light, *are not the same thing* as Flock-style ALPR cameras.
the twitter nazi can not be allowed to dictate foreign policy
starlink, at minimum, must be nationalized at the next opportunity
and other nations should treat him and his businesses like the existential threat they are, instead of someone who can be appeased by tax breaks
I am entirely serious when I say that this should be seen as a moderate position. It specifically and surgically dismantles institutions that did not exist pre-9/11 and assigns their functions much as they were assigned pre-9/11.
Rep. Delia C. Ramirez has introduced a bill that would abolish not just ICE, but the DHS altogether, repealing the 2002 law establishing the agency and replacing it with one focused on protecting civil and human rights.
At times like this I like to remind people that Schumer went straight from Harvard undergrad to Harvard law to government, where he's been since 1975. He hasn't talked to a normal person since high school
The part of the election runup where every day brings videos of Trump getting up in front of some battleground audience in his dumb hat and going "frankly you're terrible people, really disgusting. A bunch of stupid people and their awful kids. [long break for laughter and applause] Ugly as shit,"
Trump: "I didn't go to Congress. Remember Sleepy Joe? 'Oh, if they would give me approval in Congress!' You're not gonna get approval. You just do it. You're the president."
Her "immigration status" is that she's been a US citizen longer than either Melania Trump or Elon Musk.
The Democrats SHOULD use this opportunity for 100% solidarity with one of their own, and throw the fucking kitchen sink at Trump and his Republicans. I doubt they will but would LOVE to be wrong.
BREAKING: Justice Department issues subpoenas in investigation into progressive Rep. Ilhan Omar’s immigration status, including to members of her family.
The immutable, unnamed American law of The Dumbest Thing That Can Happen Will Happen dictates that the Democrats will win the House handily, as projected, and take the Senate 51-49, making John Fetterman the most powerful flesh husk in America for the next 24 months.

if you don’t keep up with the youth i want you to know they’ve renamed “tramp stamps” to “cake toppers” which feels like the first advancement for feminism in a long time
What's the common ground, Justin, between "we want equal rights and protections and safe and healthy lives" and "we want anyone who isn't a rich cis straight white man to be dead or subjugated"?
"We compromised at 2nd class citizenship for the poor and only killing half of the LGTBIA population"
The best cure for ideological bias is find someone on the other side and go to lunch with them.
Sometimes we disagree about facts. Sometimes we disagree about values. Figuring out which is which is fun part. https://newsletter.platypuseconomics.com/p/my-libertarian-friends-were-right
We need to rephrase the whole discussion in terms of hazardous products, instead of "minds". And then we need to make sure that there's liability. A model hacks someone? Put a C-suite guy in jail. A model produces sexual harassment material? Put a C-suite guy in jail.
Watch how fast things get safe
New just now in The Atlantic:
David Robinson resigned this week. He was among the longest-tenured employees at OpenAI—and oversaw safety reports on 12 frontier launches.
He is very worried: “The time for trial and error is over.”

“how do we win back trump voters in 2026” we don’t. we create an environment where admitting to voting for trump is so socially embarrassing as to render them completely inert. you don’t “win back” trump voters. you demoralize them into staying home. you make it a dunce cap
I was in a frat 20 years but if I was going to college now I would avoid them like the plague. I had a great time, some of my best friends to this day were my frat brothers. I even stayed involved as an alumni. But I wouldn't join now and I'll tell my kids to stay away when they go to college.
Misogyny, homophobia, and racism were pretty common - we were all guilty of it. And it's easy to excuse - we were young, just trying to fit in, etc. But we knew those things were wrong and didn't tell ourselves and each other to "shut the fuck up." It's very easy to imagine worse happening.
The good parts of fraternity life are subjective, available through other means/ organizations or accessible only to a select few. The bad parts are numerous and often severe and harmful to others.
It's well past time to reform Greek life, or honestly, do away with it.

In college we told ourselves that we were good people, and we behaved right, and we shook our heads when other frats were accused of harassment, abuse, and more. Couldn't be us, those are just some bad apples.
but honestly, it was probably just luck, more than anything, that nothing awful happened because of a member.
Like other frats, we partied, drank too much, and chased women. We broke university rules plenty of times, especially for underage drinking. We ignored a lot of problematic behaviors too.
This is probably unconstitutional, but the roberts court will rubber stamp it anyway.
All that will be left is finance and comp eng degrees from PragerU
Trump is banning students majoring in degrees that don’t make enough money from taking out college loans. Degrees for social work, art, religious studies, teaching aides, and music will be hit the hardest. trib.al/kQdKbY1

This aired just the once in 1998 on the live SNL show for which McKay wrote it.
It was effectively banned as it never aired again.
I wonder why.
