Just added: 5 Days a Stranger by @yahtzeecroshaw.bsky.social Surprised this wasn't on the site already! It's a great horror-themed adventure game. The whole series is excellent! Try it: dosgames.com/game/5-days-... @pixelmusement.com would love to see an ADG video about this game and/or series 🤔

People used to get online famous by saying like, “Uhh yeah, I love making my HOT BEAN JUICE every single morning!!!” But now you have to say like, the Monopoly Man fucked my ass

a common reactionary game guy archetype that's existed since at least the 00's and keeps popping up is the western guy who thinks with absolute certain that (some kind of specific era of) japanese games are the only real videogames to ever exist and everything else is made by fakes and phonies

been waiting for some younger internet dirtbag to reinvent icycalm from first principles and start talking again about how japanese arcade games are the only true form of game and that anyone who has ever made an art game should be disemboweled. he was like the curtis yarvin of game criticism.

So, the Next Fest page updated to default to personalized recommendations, but you can further tune the results by filters and tags. It went from 'at least half AI garbage' to 'holy shit I just discovered 20 cool human-made games I wanna play in under an hour'. Go dig around yourself. It's good!

Dominic Tarason@dominictarason.com

Okay, now the Next Fest page is set to Personalized by default, it's giving me some REAL sicko stuff (positive, laudatory even), like... RUIN: 35th ANNIVERSARY DEFINITIVE EDITION A remaster of a game that never existed.

Okay, people are already getting really depressed and frustrated with the Next Fest, so I'll say what I said last time round: Wait a day or two. They order the games on the pages by hours played, and 99% of the AI garbage will sink like a stone. Right now it's just undifferentiated and unranked.

Tapping the sign because people are continuing to crash out and declare all videogames dead again.

I’m glad to see a public statement about this from the organisers of MIGW, who have been helpful and supportive since this all started. This is a good summary of everything that has happened so far.

Australian indie game community organisation Freeplay has been accused of discrimination following the removal of a sponsor hours before its annual showcase event. The organisers of Melbourne International Games Week, which it was part of, have called it "a clear breach" of its code of conduct.

I wake up and our silly little site about decompiling video games has made the news this article is extremely misleading, y'all should just read the statement on decomp.dev, but I digress

Epic: "our new slopped up launcher starts up 5 seconds faster than Steam's, haha!!!" Imagine being so fucking braindead that you think *that's* the problem with your offering when compared to the rival that's had the monopoloy for more than a decade, and people will come flocking to your store now.

I’m still waiting for a public statement regarding this incident and an apology from Freeplay and their board members.

Wren Brier@wrenegade.bsky.social

I've just learned that Freeplay has removed me as a sponsor for Parallels due to an accusation from a speaker that I am a "zionist". Where did the speaker get this idea? Because Unpacking was included in a listicle in an online Jewish publication a few days ago. I didn't even know about the article.

Your daily reminder that more people are playing and buying PC games than ever before. This is a growing industry. The only reason the industry is struggling is because the people are the top are vacuuming up all the money made to divert it to AI in an unhinged all-in multi-trillion-dollar gamble.

Fewer blockbusters, no monoculture, fragmented but also huge. The entire industry 30 years ago essentially could fit in and hide in a niche today.

I'm always in awe of the job @alicedkc.bsky.social and co. do with PAX Together, making it a friendly supportive environment with a lot of interesting panels on top. But also this year I got so many prizes I have to spend my extra time in Melbourne at a post office mailing them back to myself.

The theme I got from the games on show at PAX Australia is an overwhelming rejection of generative AI. It makes the slop-forward ones stick out like a sore thumb.

you think this is like being a vampire? oh no i touched AI guess now i have to bend over if everyone uses AI, then I'll make everyone's lives difficult, even if i slip up here and there

Micah@rincewind.run

"I will not touch anything with ai-generated code" is going to mean, in pretty short order, "I will not touch software" this is just functionally what software development is now and it's only going to accelerate from here
