there is a kind of collective suicidal exhaustion in the 70+ crowd as though the unspoken wish is to beat the end of civilization by being entombed alive with their family and possessions to all die together, the friction of living finally at an end, suburban pharoahood culminated

“I’m old. I’ve paid my home off,” said Ray Warner, a 72-year-old Akron resident. “Why would I pay property tax?” Across the country, homeowners are asking the same question and revolting against property taxes at a scale not seen in a half century.

Duke lost because their backup kicker missed a game-tying 33-yarder so I looked up Duke's backup kicker and he appears to have anointed himself the world's first ever 6-star college football prospect. everybody else has only been able to get to 5

The cluelessness of this reminds me a lot of the NFT grift. The thing about NFTs was that it was mainly something finance bros were into, and when they were trying to worm their way into gaming, their pitches were an abyssal trench of bad ideas because they couldn't grasp why people played games.

“If you are staring at an example of social disorder or social inefficiency, and the left refuses to explain either why it has happened or how they will fix it, then the right gets to point at someone in the immediate area and say, ‘That’s who did it.’” crazy how much Mamdani speaks my language

Everyone on bsky’s response to this is “are they stupid” instead of “they know what they are doing and this is just a vector to destroy it” ? Like endless ‘oh they are dumb’ reverse Hanlons razor with these people imo

Dr Oz says the Trump administration will kick more than a million people off health insurance because some of them have "never filed a claim"

“Big tech isn’t scared of AI-apocalypse they’re afraid of Lina Khan” sounds like a resist lib post but it’s actually true (making it a resist lib post) send skeet

Dave Karpf@davekarpf.bsky.social

Based upon their documented behavior over the past few years, the tech industry is less afraid of the potential ramifications of Artificial Superintelligence than they are of Lina Khan.

I’m never more than 27 beers away from a Max Landis style weepy youtube diatribe on how Wonder Woman (2017) was such a disappointment send skeet

This is a pretty good one, from a retired 4channer. The heading and subheading are undersells IMO— it starts with a history of the concept of “counterculture”, then the development of the message boards, Occupy and Anonymous, then finally to Bannon/Breitbart/etc. Def informs how I think about it.
