the beauty of Home Alone is that, unlike pretty much any other movie I loved when I was younger, I have not come to sympathize with the grown-ups one bit as an adult

I do feel more for the mom (because she’s Catherine O’Hara) when she says she was too busy to grab adaptors or something bc fair! Why does she have to do everything?! That said…not realizing my own offspring is not on the same international flight is a lot even for the 90s

I had forgotten all the work they put in to making it seem more reasonable. You could tell someone had gone through and said, “well, couldn’t they have done a head count?” but they did one! And they Sumer up the neighbor kid EARLY!

They did a headcount, Kevin’s ticket was thrown away…so many reasons he was easily not accounted for, but I won’t accept Mom taking the total blame when everyone knows damn well that she did pack his suitcase and thought more about every single thing he would need before getting to her own

it’s really good writing, you can tell they meticulously thought about how a family could accidentally leave their young kid at home and have it be believable enough to accept drink spill / passports, ice storm (power+phone), 2 vans, kevin sleeping upstairs, the neighbor kid, being super late

Being upset about having to risk sleeping in your cousin's piss is a legitimate complaint that should be heard out and addressed. The way they're all making Kevin seem whiny and difficult for not wanting to deal with that is boggling.

“It’s kinda becoming a McCallister Family travel tradition” 😂 If my single Mom w/ 2 boys needed a breather for a minute, she knew she could sit me & my brother in front of Home Alone 1 & 2 (or a Football game) and a box of Lego’s & we were good for a bit. Watched it so many times!

The more you watch it the more you understand that there was absolutely no reason or excuse for ALL the adults to leave that baby behind and they did it because they lowkey hated him for being smarter than them.

The adults had to be incredibly dumb to get on the plane and not realize they had an extra ticket that didn't get scanned. Getting to the airport without Kevin? possibly. Getting on the plane without double checking. Hello CPS?

The first time I saw Home Alone I disliked it, but I sat through it it with my wife & children (who all loved it) to be a good sport. I've seen it 2+ times since then, in whole or in part, & disliked it more with each viewing. I shan't enumerate my reasons; I dislike everything about it.

I mean, but have you ever been a working mom responsible for getting a whole family ready for an international flight? I’m not saying she was right, I’m just saying…that sounds hard

only twinge i get is, i have been the guy at the airline ticket counter going “I need one person to see admit this is fucked and act like they care” while the workers are all, “i’m sorry, it’s a firm policy of ours that our planes can only fly south on tuesdays, never north”

🏊‍♂️ Swimmer of the Week 🏊‍♂️ Freshman Danny “Damp” Rodriguez from Kent State snagged Swimmer of the Week honors after somehow finishing the 200m IM in 2:04.01. “I just panicked and flailed enough to trick the clock into thinking I was winning.” His coach is still questioning the form.

I watched Home Alone 2 with my kids for their first time this week, and Kevin catching shit for what Buzz did at the choir recital is bullshit. I paused the movie and went on a bit of a rant about it.

I remember seeing the novelisation as a kid and that part's explained away - he didn't call the cops because he thought he was a fugitive for accidentally shoplifting the toothbrush when he ran away from the shovel guy in the grocery store earlier

No, bc how do you forget your kid not just once, but TWICE?! Then have the audacity to be mad when he runs up a room service bill? MF, YOU FORGOT UR CHILD IN NEW YORK!!

I know, right?! What's shocking is that I didn't think they were when I was a kid. We were talked down by a lot of adults back then, so there was nothing unusual about how they spoke to the kids. I saw it for the first time in years recently and was shocked. I'm so glad that's not the norm now

His home kind of got invaded twice, first by his extended family, then by the thieves. The fact he had to give up his room, bullied by his cousin, got yelled at for accidents, got forgotten and overlooked, they're legitimate grievances, and can see how a kid who's had enough would react like that.

I watched all the Home Alone movies in a row recently, and was reminded how much growth OG Kevin had even before the thieves break in. Compared to movie No. 4 where the kid was an unlikeable spoiled little shit who had his parents whipped.

here’s the problem with Marley: we could have avoided a good bit of trouble if he’d ponied up for the toothbrush that a kid ran away with after he seemingly intentionally terrified him

I have some sympathy for the mom, but not much, and would seriously love to B-slap Uncle Frank. The dad needs major work, and Kevin’s siblings are ALLL shitty to him. And fyi it is easy to forget a kid, even if you only have 2. 😬

Kevin was left behind because buzz wanted to be a dick with the pizza. In the second one, had that man not spoke French to Kevin on that flight, he would have heard he was on the wrong flight.

I've even come to appreciate the position dickless EPA agent Peck was in in Ghostbusters. You can't just hold a bunch of ghosts in a nuclear reactor under Tribeca! It's wildly irresponsible! He was right! #justicefordickless

Only thanks to knowledge you have as a viewer. All that Peck sees is that these jerks *claim* their precious unlicensed nuclear reactor can't be shut off. Because it's dangerous? Or maybe because it'd interfere with whatever scam/crime they're doing? He might have agreed at first, but not now.

Yeah, he made the wrong call on that, but I can see how he thought whatever that thing was might have been more dangerous powered up than shut down. Gotta remember, the man had no dick. That probably messed up his decision-making.

He's rich enough to have a house like that in the first place, he's got enough money to hire a housekeeper to come out once a month. Especially since he probably only used like 3 rooms.
