Trump: "The country had a great depression. And then after the depression, long after it started, they brought back tariffs to see if they could save it. But it took them really 25 years to get out of the great depression. A lot of people don't understand that."

"they brought back tariffs to see if they could save it" save what??????? The depression?? Depression lives matter?? huh? Can someone make this make sense please. I am too sober to understand this.

It's kind of Dark Zen. He know no one remembers anything more than 2 weeks so he just spews nonsense whenever he feels like it. In two weeks he'll completely contradict this with no cost to him. The eternal Present. The "People Say" Present. We are doomed.

What a command of history, and the kindness to share it with this great country! No way we will have to relearn the lessons of the past with this guy so steady at the helm.

Taco Supreme, the presidential historian of our time. One relevant point Taco conveniently omits is, THE COUNTRY WAS FINE BEFORE YOU F*CKED IT UP! There was no depression or recession thanks to Fed Chair Powell and Joe Biden. They skillfully navigated us out of it. Then you showed up again.

The Smoot-Hawley tariffs were Hoover, a few months after the depression started, not "long after." And it took 12 years to get out of the depression, not 25. This jerkoff doesn't know the depression ended with WW2?

FUN FACTS vs Cognitive Dissonant President: The Great Depression started in 1929 and 25 years later was 1954. FDR's New Deal helped recover the US by 1937 by REDUCING and ELIMINATING tariffs with reciprocal trade agreements under the RTAA. bsky.app/profile/atru...

Just to get to caught up on his "special vocabulary" "Many, Many people said to me" means zero people. "A guy came up to me with tears in his eyes" means someone just told him they want to punch him in the face. "Putin said he didn't do it" means Putin did it.

No Donald Trump, you self proclaimed "very stable genius" you're wrong! The Smoot-Hawley Act brought tariffs back to America, some as much as 60% in 1930, just a year after the Great Depression started and they made the Great depression even worse! Tariffs weren't a good idea then or now you moron!

Wait. I don't understand anything about what you're saying that applies to today's economy, Mr. Trump. And all those people sitting around you letting you babble on..... Your handlers need to get you to talk more about those gold leaf adornments. That's something you seem to understand.

Once again the Insidious Mango Mussolini has demonstrated his utter ignorance of American (or any other) history. The Smoot-Hawley Tariff contributed to the Great Depression. It led to a 65% decrease in international trade between 1924 and 1934. Per Britannia: www.Britannia.com>topic>Smoot-Hawley 1

Furthermore Trump is wrong about the end of the depression. The economic picture improved with the start of World War II. I realize he is stupid and in the throes of dementia but this kind of ignorance is horrific and is already costing innocent lives. 2

So, is it really necessary to fact-check President Trump every time he says stupid shit about history? Wouldn't save a lot of time and effort if we all just assume that he's got it completely wrong and move on?

In the book Lucky Loser, Russ Buettner and Susanne Craig of the NYT trace Trump's shady financial history back to his birth, they say in college Trump would skip class and have another student read aloud her notes to him, he does not learn by reading text. Hard to remember oral history of the world!
