I’m a municipal fire inspector and by ordinance, we don’t ever make appointments, with the one exception of day care centers. We would never want the precedent set that it’s ok to open the door for someone dressed as a city inspector. We feel that is a tactic that a criminal would employ.

1/2 I’m a retired mental health professional who used to advise early childhood educators on the social-emotional development of children, 3-5 y/o…pre-school. What time of day were these clowns there? Pre-school is usually from 8a-12p. If it’s also a daycare, kids may not arrive until after school.

2/2 My point is, it may not be nefarious that some pre-school/daycares may appear “empty” when, in fact they are between arrival & departure times for the kids. The kids may have been in another area of the facility. It’s winter in MN; they may have been in a gym area, getting physical active time.

We didn't close but we combined age groups and sent staff home. Most of the centers I worked at were set up so the kods could not be seen from the entrance. This is for the childs safety.

I work in early childhood edu & hell yes they pulled the door closed & quickly locked it. Random guys show up & try to force their way in?? Standard practice to not let people in they don't know. And some days we have no kids in center-for staff training, cleaning, documenting, catch-up ect.

Childcare places have more security than almost any other business I've been in. More than banks, jewelry stores, etc. For good reason! Look at the crazy shit that goes on out there. My local elementary school doesn't let parents or anybody inside without an ID check first.
