The entire Democratic strategy debate — "moderate" or move left? fight or compromise? — is based on a misreading of data. Voters don't think Dems are too progressive; they think Dems are weak. The actual math on what to do about this isn't even close! New: www.gelliottmorris.com/p/new-poll-d...

"The entire Democratic strategy debate — 'moderate' or move left? fight or compromise? — is based on a misreading of data." Related reminder: The principal reason Harris lost in 2024 had nothing to do with ideology or policy choices

Definitely different, but being a relentless and effective communicator was a major asset for Reagan in the environment that existed in 1981-84 and failing to be a relentless and effective communicator was a major liability for Biden in the environment that existed in 2021-24.

Every election is about the economy. It's very, very boring so the media is incentivized to make it appear about other issues, but it is *always* about how voters feel about their wallets. (2004 is MAYBE the only counterfactual in my lifetime)

Reagan didn’t contend with right wing podcasters and other social media bent on conspiracy and pushing misinformation 24/7/365. Fox is state media filled with propaganda brainwashing low information citizens. It’s helpful data, appreciate the time and research!

Sources: 64% and 68% numbers: 2024 exit polls (there are two competing polls, one used by the networks the other by AP and Fox) 37% Reagan economic approval in mid-1983: Gallup 37% Biden economic approval in mid-2023: CNBC Inflation and unemployment: BEA and BLS Analysis my own.

Great analysis here! Not to be too obvious, but there really was large inflation under Biden. Media presentation aside, it wasn't like he was running in the 1996 economy and Fox News just cast a spell on 200 million people.

I agree with this. You cd say BHO did the same. Amazing communicator campaigning, not so much once Pres. Dems never seem to learn effective communication or, like O, they know it but quit using it. Notice that T is losing more & more as he loses his appearance of strength. Lackeys now do it.

Maybe “voters” need to understand that Dems aren’t weak, but voters gave Repubs control of the House, the Senate, & the presidency & stripped Dems of the power to fix the mess voters created.

Sinema killed the minimum wage increase Manchin killed build back better They both voted with republicans to block the John Lewis Voting Rights Act Sinema is currently lobbying for more data centers Those two did far more harm than the squad could ever dream

Ah, but the Manchins and the Sinemas are how they get the control by them having a D instead of an R behind them. That does ignore whether the party apparatus properly supports other D options on the local level. Why do they have to be the candidate?

Many ppl who consider themselves DSA-type progressives attack Dems more often than they attack Repubs. They’re part of the problem bc they’re both creating & feeding into a false narrative.

That's incredibly unrealistic, that thinking is part of what tanked Biden. If you don't aggressively toot your own horn and just assume everyone will see the good you are doing, you will fail.

I too want Dems to fight harder but I also suspect at least part of this effect is that the minority party doesn't have that many tools and people don't internalize that. As far as messaging goes, you can message the same policy in a way that will appeal to ideologically distant voters. You can.

Very interesting which party Americans perceive as "elitist": 57% think the *GOP* is elitist, 43% think Dems are. That seems to weigh in against a very common trope and worry by Dems that they come across as condescending scolds and/or incomprehensible policy nerds.

Despite voting for only Dems for over a decade now I am independent. Their propensity for unforced errors, and tendency to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory are BIG reasons. Makes me wonder if they are really an opposition party, or a puppet who's job is to create he illusion of choice.

I'm a progressive, but if I lived in Massie's district, I would vote for him. He has a set of balls and will fight for what he believes in. Same thing with AOC, Crockett and Kat A (IL-9) candidate. I'm tired of the milquetoast pols who just want to keep their jobs (Schumer, Jefferies, Durbin).

Out of curiosity, does anyone know if independents thought that Kamala Harris was weak? I think of her as stronger and tougher than Biden, and certainly more than any of the jokers currently in leadership.

My subjective experience is exactly this. Fighters win fights. Schumers only win primary elections when voters don’t care to vote (and let money talk), but then they bring a rubber chicken to a knife fight against the GOP. We want fighters, not apparatchiks. That’s how Fetterman got elected.

To make it clear, Fetterman was never a raving Leftist; he was a conservative Democrat who said he’d fight for his principles. Unfortunately, stroke or not, those principles seem now to be fascist to the core.

Exactly. The same voters who despise Trump dislike the lack of fight they see in the D party. Maura Healey just figured it out.

TBH I think a problem with "don't you understand the problem is Democrats are perceived as being weak? You need to be principled & strong, that will solve the problems!" is that the Democrats being perceived as weak & unprincipled are so because they ARE weak or unprincipled or both

Telling a weak person to act strong when they have no idea how is kind of asking for trouble IMO, it feels like half the time the result will be "not like that! WTF" Having said that getting them to resign would also be a good outcome, so

There is a hugely divisive undercurrent in the Party between the middle class & working class, and it often gets tinged w elements of race. I believe Independents r more moderate, center driven home owners, but heavily exposed 2 economic risk, like most others. A critical time 2b bold & unified.

In "normal" times, reasonable compromise is the best default. We are far past normal times. We are working against a political party and cabal of billionaires who are actively destroying our country. We are desperate for leaders who will fight for us.

I want “left”. I want them to talk about a government to “provide for the general Welfare” (like freely available healthcare and education, clean air and water, infrastructure that serves everyone…) and to call out Rs as a party that actively works against the well-being of the people.

The advisors to Jeffries and Schumer are fully convinced that the best strategy is to provide no exposure risk and allow trump to self immolate. It just misses the point that a failure to announce policy will not motivate the lazy voter. They’re totally relying on current negative sentiment.

When both come from safe New York electorates with their elector understanding defined by funders this complacency is not unexpected. It doesn’t matter how many people you speak to if you’ve never lived the struggle. Schumer has been a rep since 24, Jeffries since 36.

Incorrect. In politics “Always highlight the mistake when your enemy is making it.” If your total strategy is to rely on a passive approach you are doomed. The data is now clear - a failure to enunciate policy is seen as weak. You’re not trying to win the Democrat voter (that’s a given).

You can say the same to legacy media outlets who think that if they just have a few more conservative voices the MAGAts will flee Fox and Joe Rogan.

Once again the Dems are like the guy who takes you to the prom, but instead of dancing & having a good time with you, he’s too interested in watching the girl he asked 1st, but she turned him down. MAGA wants to stay with DJT & the ish storm he brings, so concentrate on the non voters.

The impression that Democrats are weak, I think, is correct. Part of the reason, however is that Trump believers choose to see his recklessness and disregard for the law as strength!

They see it as strength because he's actually doing something. Too many dems sit on their hands and do endless rounds of focus groups and policy tweaks, instead of taking action. Dems can easily be strong if they want, look at Zohran Mamdani. He's viewed as strong because he acts, not just talks

It comes down to people wanting politicians to actually fix things, and when you have one candidate saying "i'll fix it all" (even if he's crazy and wrong) and the other says "My consultants say I should have a dialogue about XYZ", which one are people going to see as strong?

Gavin Newsom believes that going back to the good old days before pronouns existed, and bigots could sh!t on Trans people without consequence, is the answer. I can't even tell you how much I disagree with that.

I want someone who is going to fight, not someone whose first instinct is compromise. And I am not a “leftist”. I’m a fairly standard liberal with some opinions that are actually to the right of the party. What I want is reps who aren’t going to be pussies.

I recognize that we don't live in Utopia. Theoretically yeah I think borders are kinda stupid and I'd love to live in a world where we don't need them. But we don't live in that world, and you can't enforce the law based on what you wish it was. You have to enforce it based on what it is.

We have a border. We have laws. Some people will merit deportation and I'm fine with that. However we don't apply the law exactly the same way for every single crime, and trying to deport every single person for what is a misdemeanor is just plain stupid. Nvm the whole violating rights thing.

So basically it doesn’t matter what your stance is as long as you seem like you have convictions and, I’d add, actually be seen as accomplishing significant improvements once in office. No mealy-mouthed bullshit.

I think the issue here is they aren’t “misreading” the data. They’re simply not interested in moving left. The Dems are mostly corpos and don’t think they should be “forced” to do what their voters want.

That a because they are weak. They always have been weak. We believe in safety nets, health care for all, civil rights, human rights, protections for the weak or disenfranchised, housing for all, immigrant rights These are awesome things to believe in. They are worth fighting for.

It’s not that their weak, it’s their denial as to what occurred starting in 2016. This has to be dealt with, all of it. Nothing else matters until the traitors are dealt with . If this scares them, they should step down, so a fighter can enter the ring🇺🇸

the dems don't do anything without flattening the options onto a one-axis left-right spectrum and assessing the risk on those terms. when i lived in florida, the election that reelected desantis in a landslide also passed a rent control measure by a large margin. that spectrum is a *bad rubric*.

Dude (I speak to our elected reps), stand for what you believe in, what you think is right for our country and people, and stop trying to follow polls. People generally want elected leaders who ... stand for what they believe in!

I still think dems read of data is influenced by big money donors. They’re the people Hakeem and Schumer listen to and they don’t want activist progressives, so Dem leadership reads this as about moderation.

100%. Stand for something. Be willing to fight for it. People will follow. I feel like so much of the "are we too far left/extreme" handwringing comes from the portion of the party too is afraid to do those two things. Those people need to step aside.

Those people are not worth talking to yet- they are still in the cult. I talk to everyday people in stores- it’s not a political setting, so these are people who might have either voted for him or- or not voted at all. I talk to a lot of younger people. People want to talk to me - so I talk.

I am forced to interact with these people at my job. People want to talk to me, and as soon as they say things like “Nancy Pelosi murders babies”, I put my earbuds in. I try to be kind and friendly, but these people are insufferable.

I don’t understand why leftists don’t form their own party. Then you won’t have to worry about what the Dems are doing or not doing.

I ran a poll too. My poll says American people are stupid. They continue to fall for the same old lies over and over and over again while politicians say how smart they are. Bullshit! The American people don’t understand their own fucking government.

And many campaign consultants steer them wrong by polling only likely voters. So they think they’re trying to create a brand to take votes from Republicans who vote, instead of creating a brand that will mobilize people who don’t vote regularly to do so. tramontela.medium.com/the-politics...

tramontela.medium.comThe Politics of Immigration, In 2026When you’re skidding on an icy road, you steer into the slide to course-correct. Over the better part of two decades, Democratic leaders…

I don't understand how they're NOT getting the message. We've mad our anger as clear as day. It seems to me that they're just ignoring us because they think they and their consultants know better. We need to "know better" them right into the sun at the ballot box.

They have been listening to Faux News tell people for years that Democrats are feckless, evil, always incorrect, baby-eaters, groomers, weak, the list is endless. They don't have a single show for a single hour in any month that is hosted solely by a Democrat, to show people the difference

The biggest success the Democrats had in the last 40 years was Obama, a Black man who ran on the message "hope and change", but somehow they keep thinking "return to tradition" and appealing to people who hate them and will never vote for them is a good strategy.

It's not a misreading of the data. They know what the data says. The Dem strategy debate is: How can they LOOK like they're listening to voters *enough* so they get the votes, but how can they ACT in accordance to their big donors and PACs etc. who don't want what the voters want?

I admit I may not understand methodology, but do you/can you explain whether being “strong” or “fighting” relates more to tactics/style or substantively more left positions? Trump for ex has strong/fight style but “moderates” on policy sometimes like natl abortion ban/mifip by mail or no SS cut.

People want a narrative. They want leaders that are scrappy underdogs who call out injustice plainly and pledge to fight it with everything they’ve got. That’s how Trump wins. See also: Mamdani, Obama

Based on everything I read in this post and in the thread it sure is going to be easy to just win voters hearts with the right mojo and take over the Democratic party! Looking forward to watching you all go out and win! Because you know what works! And you will prove it by winning! Really winning!

So the point for Dems to “get their shit together” would be reasonably consistent with this analysis. Makes sense. Wherever they land (mod or left) less important than “emphatic and effective messaging” (aka, their “shit”).

exactly! 5 months of declining support they should be in attack mode!!

Vandy, C.A.@cavandy.bsky.social

he's not going to recover, Dems probably worse bc they're not putting their boot on his very weak neck

Shouldn’t the democrats strategy be based on what Republicans and Independents feel/believe?Democrats aren’t going to win with democrats alone, been there…done that, they should, but not all democrats vote, apparently, for what ever reason…

Empathy must be paired with strength. Without strength, empathy is just a pie in the sky dream of a better world; it makes rights and services a list of nice-to-haves rather than the necessities they really are.

Are they weak? I think they just don't wanna do the things people want them to do. If you just do a text search for the phrase "democrats should" people clearly have ideas for them

This. People are attracted to confidence. trump, although full of shit, projects confidence and does shit aggressively. The Dems, although in the right, project fear and uncertainty on how or if to act. That is a losing strategy.

We need a swaggering, southern accent, smart-as-a-whip person to lead. Someone who knows how to hit back...and more importantly to employ a forceful, effective offensive. And for all the dems to fall in line, repeating talking points.

Fuck the democrats. They are complicit in this entire situation. There is not a single Democrat doing anything of substance because if they were they would be doing it instead of going on book tours and running eternally for reelection. Really, really fuck the republicunts too. Don't get me wrong.

That's what I've been saying. AOC, Mamdani or the much disliked by the progressives Newsom aren't popular because they are 'progressive' or 'center' but because they are perceived as being 'strong'.

That's really it for me. I don't get into the center v. left crap. I'm voting against the other side. But really I will vote for whomever is angriest and ready to take drastic action. On paper, I shouldn't like Newsom. But he is doing valuable work and has shown an appetite to break things.

Weak and unable to recognize the opportunities in front of them. They could turn the tables by claiming the mantle of the real conservatives. Today’s GOP is a big government authoritarian crapfest. People like Bernie just want govt to do basic stuff to help ppl and stay out of our personal lives.

Dem's look/act weak, not wrong with progressive goals. If we took some of Bernie's advice years ago the people's money would have been used for education and healthcare. Even red states w/bad education systems would have it much better, and not require Federal support every year.

We are our own worst enemy. Too scared to fight, and sacrificing strength in our unrealistic efforts to find bipartisan agreement on everything. Republicans don’t have spines, and Democrats don’t have balls.

People need an enemy to fight to give them any semblance of cohesion. Dems can’t name the enemy because they’re taking money from the same people as the GOP, who already got dibs on scapegoating the convenient targets. That’s why they’re backed into a corner and flailing uselessly.

R's Enemy is "others", foreigners, Libs, progress D's Enemy is R's implementing bad policies Dems don't want to stop R's bc then they wouldn't have something to use as a fear factor to drive donations & votes. It's why when they are in majority, they slow-walk & allow R input for later dismantling

Yeah. I don’t want to say that Dems are controlled opposition because I don’t have my tinfoil hat handy but like—what would controlled opposition be doing differently right now?

The Dems have become weak because they are too beholden to their donors. They choose them over their constituents nearly every time. Corporate Dems have to be replaced with a clean slate, if that's possible.

1896: McKinley's chief fundraiser Mark Hanna courted corporations w/ promises of a big-business-friendly agenda and raised more than $6 million. Hanna is famously quoted as saying, "There are two things that are important in politics. The first is money and I can't remember what the second one is."

Look at New York. Mayor Mamdani is crushing it every day. Citizens are loving it. He ran on a platform of GSD and when he was elected, he got qualified people around him and immediately got shit done. "Yeah, I just flipped the switch on the orphan killing machine and now we have free child care."

This view assumes most Dems are uniform everywhere and want this. Making this the platform across the board will not work. Even in my state, Dems can't agree on anything.

I will also point out that Dem Mayors and Governors were not excluded from my post. They are also Executive office holders. I am autistic (AuDHD). I choose my words carefully almost all the time.

Yes, one is in charge of an executive branch and another is a member of the legislative branch. I also passed basic civics classes. Having said that, he said what he was going to do and did it. Politics. He is working for and with his constituents. Politics. I can't even speak to my representatives.

One is the mayor of a single city with executive power. The other represents either a single district or a state with legislative power, in a congressional body of which Republicans control the majority. Politics is compromise. The art of the possible.

This is the actual frustrating thing about Dems - Eric Adams fucking sucks and he was doing this shit. Dems do this type of shit ALL THE TIME. In Michigan we have virtually universal pre-K. Walz went crazy in MN. Noone will say jackshit about it unless it's the internet's parasocial boyfriend

Schumer refusing to endorse him tells us who he fights for, and it's not us. They want to pretend they are for the working class so they can keep billionaires happy.

Massive blizzard? Hey, New Yorkers? Wanna make 4 times the minimum wage plus 6 times the minimum for overtime by shoveling snow for the city? Yessir. People waking up the next day: These sidewalks are pristine and my car is uncovered. This dude rocks!

You know that the city's budget is fucked, right? So, that was a good thing, and I, as a pedestrian appreciate it, but the money will come from somewhere. Maybe Hochul will step up, which means broader NY pays for it, and something in that budget will get squeezed.

It wasn't his platform, it was his very effective messaging and use of media, especially social media to create the emotional narrative giving voters the belief he would do what he said.

We have a regime made up of complete morons and most dems can't seem to offer more than stern letters. What happens when a smarter tyrant comes? I haven't heard anything from dems that make me think they are willing to make the reforms necessary to prevent another trump from coming along. Will....

They even have the spine to prosecute the people who got us here? They certainly won't as long as they're still taking money from the billionaires who laid all the groundwork for a strong man figure to rise. How many won't bother voting bc they see that dems are just going to carry on as usual?

Stern letters is where accountability starts, you need documentation. How are they supposed to implement reforms in the minority? What exactly should they be doing right now that would stop Trump? Not a defense, I'm genuinely asking what specific actions they should take.

I don't expect them to be able to pass anything now. I expect them to be doing everything they can to be sand in the gears. Nothing should have unanimous consent, no nominee should get any dem votes. They can also go on offense. They can ban stock trading for themselves and call out the gop for...

Not passing a bill on it. Don't tell members not to be disruptive at a SOTU where trump says dems are destroying the country. Most of all I want them to call out the billionaires and corporations who are bankrolling the fascists and hurting the rest of us.

How about just letting a candidate be authentic. That was dynamite in the first few weeks of Harris + Walz. And then the consultants took over. I just want someone to be themselves and not an amalgam of all my pet issues.

This. I consider myself fairly moderate (hell, until 2016, I was a registered Republican). But if progressives are more liable to take on Trump and the creeping/speeding fascism of his administration, then I would rather vote for them.

Voters are…uninformed. They don’t understand how govt works and they don’t take responsibility for having put Dems in an impossible minority position. They believe republican propaganda. They forgot or never paid attention to all Biden accomplished. This is on the voters, not the Dems.

This is a "why not both" meme situation. The voters are willfully ignorant and lazy. The politicians are out of touch, and all about performances.

It's less about how we got here and more about how we get out. And too many dems think the answer is to run away from progressive values, when likely the opposite is true.

Nathan Becker@netbacker.bsky.social

Agreed. But 'aiming big' means killing the myth that hold Dems back: that we need to find the money first. We don't. Our Government creates our currency. Real limits are inflation and resources, not revenue. Next time, spend first on what works. Let the wealthy and bond markets catch up #Econsky

fuck you blaming powerless people over the blue scum who value donors over peoples lives is a real liberal move and demonstrates why everyone hates liberals

Voters were quite well informed, actually. We all knew Kamala's position on genocide, and millions of people decided not to vote because she put Israel above America. And now we all have to pay the price for her bloodlust

they understand perfectly. your mistake is assuming they're trying to care about what their constituents want instead of what their billionaire donors want

No, they don’t. Neither has written or passed any legislation, neither knows anything about whipping votes. A big social media presence is not “fighting for us.” It’s entertaining us.

In 2026, being a social media influencer IS part of the role. If you don't get that, you've been watching too much West Wing and need to deal with reality. There's a reason why people who cling to norms and tradition sound ridiculous in our current country. The System you grew up on has failed.

You’re not wrong, but the problem long-term is that social media benefits whoever is out of power because it’s fueled by grievance. It’s going to be tough to be in power and try to build a lasting coalition when social media incentives benefit anger and rage, not trust.

Collegial little chat sessions with good people from both sides of the aisle. CNN, Fix, and MSNBC are everything the GOP needs to keep "proving" they are not psychopathic Nazi fascists. Look, the senior Democrats seem to think they're all right...

You seem easily disgruntled in 2026… a world in which social media has influence (Republicans have known this for a decade while *some* Dems are finally catching on) I’ll take an educated theatrical fighter like Crockett over a charlatan performer like Tchump/MTG every day of the week (for 4 years)

"You seem easily played by politicians who look good on tv" Political commentators when tv became widely available, probably. "You seem easily played by politicians who sound good on the radio" Political commentators when radio became widely available, probably.

If someone complained about Democrats not accomplishing anything, you'd ask that person what they expected since they're out of power. So yes, in 2026, they are social media influencers. Politics is also the art of changing minds to enact your values. I'll focus on policy when they can make policy

Sorry dude. Your understanding of politics is mired in 1976, just like the Democrats. If you're not out there influencing on social media, you don't exist for the segment of the voting population most likely to vote Democrat. Heck, I'm 66 and I haven't watched "television" in 30+ years.

They don't want to love left because they think it's bad politics. They don't want to move left because they don't want to move left. They don't believe if leftist ideas. They don't agree with progressives. The party for the most part are right wing with some moderate social views (sometimes)

So “debate” is driven by Corporate Dems who came of political age while Reagan was handing Dems their asses and shifting US politics and federal courts so far right that US does not have true Left. Bernie and AOC are exceptions that validate the hypothesis.

Many of us have been saying this for ages, but current Dem leaders just don't get it and likely never will. Voters like politicians they view as fighters, even if they don't always agree with what they're fighting for.

their silence on trans issues in 2024 is a microcosm of their whole problem. a swing voter might not approve of trans ppl, might even blame Dems for "pronoun shit", but they still hate Dems more for cowardice. "if you won't even do right by the groups you support, why believe you'll do right by ME?"

Exactly. I'm a Liberal rainbow-capitalism free-markets-and-social-safety-nets guy and I would always vote for a Mamdani or an AOC over some triangulating milquetoast ghoul.

I’m not advocating purging experience but we need young blood in touch with communities and an ability to fight the corruption.

Exactly. Now is not the time for a left-right divide. Anyone who understands how severe the reckoning needs to be has my vote. Those that don't, don't. In practice that mostly means progressives, but (e.g.) Bill Kristol would be better for this moment than many/most elected Dems

Primary season is exactly the time to have this debate. We need to replace the "weak" and ineffectual candidates with ones who will stand up for us. Continually going to the right hasn't worked, we need strong candidates to help drag the party back to the left.

Certainly I agree that "we need strong candidates," first and foremost. In general, that tends to be the furthest left candidates, which is good, but the strong/weak axis seems like it should be the focus

A huge part of the problem, and why we need new leadership, is they start negotiating from the compromise position, and that looks incredibly weak, because it is. the dem base is pissed at leadership because they start out by conceding that republicans are right

You act as if “moderate” is a compromise position. When in fact moderates will tell you they are moderate because those are the policies and positions they genuinely believe in. The most extreme views are not inherently the ones most sincerely held.

They ARE weak... as much as I hate the Republicans I almosttttttttt hate the Dems more, because saving the country should be so easy! The Rs are truly awful people, mean, hurtful, and inept - and they show it daily. And dems twiddle their thumbs, and do nothing. A race to the bottom.

Will Mamdani have the same appeal after he's actually governed though? It's all about performance instead of actual governance, which is fucking absurd but I understand that's how it is. I'm skeptical that this approach will work. Unfortunately, I think if AOC ran for POTUS, she'd lose.

This reminds me of a great academic article that I read for my dissertation. One of the challenges with data analysis is that it can always be used to reinforce priors. I think you see this from popularists a lot. They see their beliefs reinforced in all data they analyze…

So they never go deeper than that. So for them, all data suggests that Dems should be “moving to the middle” and they do not seek out data that could challenge that view, even when it right in plain sight. I need to find the doi to post that article later

Newsom is undercutting any “toughness” cred his media/social media strategy is netting him because of his terrible attempts to get a better “extreme” score by podding with people that independents hate, per this poll, to make statements about marginalized people that independents aren’t motivated by

Which means that both the leadership *and* the activists don't get it. Toughness isn't about adopting leftie policy positions *or abandoning them"; it's about defending the people and the Constitution from a rogue, tyrannical régime – and pledging to hold its officials accountable for their crimes.

Progressives can do this! Liberals can do this! Moderates can do this! There's room for both an AOC and a Spanberger in a Democratoc party that understands this, because getting tough on the Trump régime is a completely separate question than health care or whatever.

By progressives, sure. For the rest of us, drop off the second half of what you're saying – and recognise that "most* is doing a lot of lifting in your statement. TBH I'd argue that it's less spinelessness than confusion about voter priroities (as the OP notes).

Unfortunately most Dem electeds believe being "strong" means supporting GOP policies & doing anything else is being "weak." Whereas most Dem voters generally have the opposite (and correct) view.

I've never voted for a Republican in my life, and even I think they're weak. Or at least some of them. The current leadership in congress for sure.

This is like when we were leafleting during a board of trustees election. “Don’t let them know we’re teachers or union! They hate us!” And nobody would even look at us. So I started yelling “Do you want to know who the faculty endorse?” And every single person walked over and took a leaflet.

I think they are too weak and a bit too progressive. You know how many Democrats---straight, gay, whatever---don't think boys who have gone through puberty should play women's sports? A lot. Yet the far left is willing to have a trump rather than a Democrat over such a minuscule issue.

I’m not far left and think Democrats need to fight for all marginalized groups, starting with never referring to their oppression as a “minuscule issue”. If Dems can’t stand up for them, what else will they fold on?

“Look, it’s only a small minority that I’m fine being legislated out of existence based on a controversy entirely manufactured to make that erasure more palatable. Niemöller who?”

You do know that there are rules when it comes to top level sports? The new olympics rules prohibit males who has gone through puberty in female sports, as do many other sporting organizations. The rules are already in place. So what actually bothers you? The mere fact that transgenders exists?

Why not cancel elections with this threat of a takeover of them? Of course it would ruin MS Now's chance at a monopoly on media spin, but anybody have an answer? Visibility and inclusion problem for Dems. There are a lot of lonely women who need more invites: answers to emails, carpools, human ****

OK but “too weak” doesn’t mean too moderate. We shouldn’t conflate ideological concerns (centrist or progressive) with efficacy/“will they fight for me” concerns. The two may have some correlation, but not everyone wishing the Dems would fight are wishing they would fight for progressive policies.

The 'too weak' part comes from not-progressive policy on wealth. The 1% took $70 TRILLION from the 90% over the last 50 years, and the 90% is feeling it even if they don't understand it. TFFG recognized they've been screwed and promised to fix it, while Dems said 'everythin's just FINE!'.

The Dems who are getting the most shine right now are the ones who are fighting, regardless of whether they're centrists or progressives.

This is certainly true, but it also misses the fact that the Democrats are quite literally attempting to be the party that represents everyone from the true left all the way through the liberals to the moderate conservatives. Of course they're weak. You can't sit on a fence and look stable.

In 2018, I knocked a well-to-do couple's door in Johnson County, KS: they were newly-minted Democrats, recently Republicans. And in the open KS-03 congressional race, they'd decided to vote for Bernie Bro (complimentary) Brent Welder. Not the moderate dude. Not even Sharice. They even wanted a sign.

Their reasoning: he was "strong". They liked that strength because it meant he'd fight for people like them, and he wouldn't fold. These folks were clearly centrists appalled by Trump, but they were primary-voting for the farthest-left option. I think about them a lot.

on construction site yesterday w six guys from foremans to PMs. taxes on overtime led to political talk, with lots of consensus. Trump is a liar, Dems will win midterms, Dems were weak when they had power. Epstein scandal is avatar of disdain for global elites.
