NEW 🧵 A quick thread of charts showing how Trump’s economic agenda is going so far: 1) US consumers are reacting very very negatively. These are the worst ratings for any US government’s economic policy since records began.

Could the (un)popularity of policies somehow be compared to some proxy of the "need to do something"? I guess situations that necessitates action gives governments some credit, but harsh measures also tend to create backslash. Here, there doesn't seem to be any good reason for the actions...

Looking back at the charted 2009 recession will seem like a bump compared to what's coming. These tariffs will stress and restructure supply chains, capital markets, and production - likely long term depression. Meanwhile, the Trumps will be in the Mediterranean with billions in crypto.

The most positive outcome at this point would be that the rest of the world finds out a way to not depend on the U.S. anymore. Just figure out a way in which trade works for the rest of the world and let the U.S. gleefully slide into the irrelevance of their own choosing.

Critical question is going to be whether Republicans continue to diverge (and more so now than previous crises); remaining positive while others become more negative, for longer and under worse conditions. I'm told that's all Trump cares about.

On the bright side we only had to wait a couple months to prove that Trump is indeed toxic to the economy. "He WaS aMaZiNg UnTiL tHe PaNdEMiC!!!111" Myth busted, along with his greatest illusion, his one area where he projected strength.

Oh only 1368 days to go of this mess. If we are lucky. He’s worse than Covid, he’s the biblical pestilence. If I believed Jesus I’d say he’s the Antichrist just how the Bible described

Yeah. Why would term 2 be different? Everything he promised to do in the campaign was going to be a disaster. Tariffs done indiscriminately are bad. But the media didn’t even push him to say it’s a tax on Americans!

I'm sure he thinks returning the economy and markets to the state they were in during his last administration is a great thing. In two days he made everything that took place over the last four years vanish into thin air. Quite an accomplishment really.😏

Little nitpick: the same impact on economic uncertainty as a global pandemic*with Trump at the helm*. He basically managed to recreate the COVID economic anxiety and confusion even without any actual pandemic going on. It would be impressive if it wasn't so incredibly stupid.

Actually if I'm reading the chart right he's having a *worse* impact on it. And no doubt it's gonna keep trending in bad directions because Mango Mussolini just cant stop being stupid.

3) That was just the US version. What’s particularly impressive is that he’s managed this on a global scale. Starting to get the feeling that “Trump” annotation is going to be the chart equivalent of a layer of volcanic ash in the fossil record.

Motion to rename Iridium “Trumpium” in his honor. He’d be so excited to have an element named after him he wouldn’t even realize it’s the signature we look for in global mass extinctions. Alternative: name eighth row elements after him, since they are so unstable they self-annihilate in seconds.

Even Machiavelli knew that you have to give *something* back to the people. Trump seems to believe that constant beatings will eventually improve moral. Either that or he doesn't think he can ever be touched and can act with impunity to satisfy his endless desire to inflict pain.

It's funny the US has gotten to see exactly what happens when a country says "fuck trade, we're going to do our own thing" and decided "yes, we want some of that for ourselves." Only in typical American fashion we decided to do it bigger and faster

“How can wealth persuade poverty to use its political power to keep wealth in power? Here lies the whole art of Conservative politics in the twentieth century.” Aneurin Bevan

An interesting thesis to explain what's happening is that it's an Old Money/New Money class war. The Tech Bros (New Money) think of themselves as gods and want to control everything. Trump is a willing participant because he hates the same Old Money people. This program of destruction is calculated.

The New Money faction is unconcerned with mass politics. They want to destroy the economy so they can buy assets for Pennie's in the dollar to further monopolize their control. They see what they are doing as foundational. They do not care for the welfare of a couple hundred million people.

To them it's just a thinning of the herd. I guarantee you that there is a logic to these maneuvers. It just doesn't make sense to most people because most people are not multi-billionaires with god complexes. Shit is get very, very weird and extremely brutal. This is a battle of billionaire titans.

BOYCOTT Trump(MAGA) supporting US Companies. Support US Companies that have stood up to the monster where they could(generally DEI).....Levis,Apple,Disney,CosCo...to name 4.

The USA will have a massive deficit with Greenland. Will Don use his magic formula ((value of GL exports to US/value of US exports to GL)×100)to calculate the tariff to imposed on those minerals? Same question could be addressed regarding Ukraine.
