In some ways this is worst case for the GOP: partial release keeping the issue alive, long-term frustration, eventual full release closer to the election. The only way out I see is to get SCOTUS to say they want to think about the decision for ten years and the files can be released after that.

So they violated the direct wording of the law. That's not a valid reason to redact.

So they redacted dear leader. We all know hes in there or else this wouldn't have been such an ordeal.

The thing is Bondi isn't immune to impeachment, and the bill was passed with enough bipartisanship to convict her. So if the courts won't intervene, MAGA infighting might just be enough pressure to throw Bondi to the wolves and a "better" version released.

The other option is that they could find only harmless pictures of Clinton, but not a single harmless picture of Trump, which could have been shown unredacted.

This is assuming that Trump and his government a) care enough about not doing illegal things, and b) ever expect to be in trouble for breaking the law. They don't. They see the law as their way to control others. It doesn't apply to them. So we need to make sure, one way or another, that it does.
