One more BC thread. The NDP are going to spend a lot of time figuring out what went wrong. I think Eby never found his stride as premier, and the path to leadership was where things started to go wrong. Eby wasn't used to being the bad guy, but the disqualification of Appadurai did not go over well.
Lula:
"We had to overcome foreign interference through digital platforms, which we will have to regulate. A crime in the digital world must be treated the same as a crime in the real world.
We cannot have monstrous companies earning millions... not paying taxes... wanting to steer elections."
In positive news, Phoebe Bridgers + Alex G rocked last night, and the No Phones show life is perfect. No notes. Phones should disappear. Technology used to manipulate our attention for profit is so dehumanizing.
This iteration of the BC NDP sure is sad they couldn't just disqualify the Conservatives from this race. A mess from the start. A lack of political literacy that looks indifferent from incompetence.
Okay everyone, and now it's time! We have a council we want! And a park board we want! And a school board we want!
Now more than ever it's time to get INVOLVED.
Then when it's time to do this all again, you don't need to panic/guilt volunteer. This council/board's record will speak for itself: having heard and engaged with you on what matters to you and all of us!
Now more than ever: GET INVOLVED.
This is the opportunity to create a new civic culture and identity, and get buy in from all. Let's do the slower, casual work of being informed, being responsive, and being proactive about our city with people in power willing to listen.

You need to communicate with your representatives, be it by calling them, or volunteering in their party and getting to know them, or WHATEVER. Just ENGAGE.
It's the only way they can know what YOU want your city to look like, so that they can BUILD the city you want!
Every movie, song, and book that you love was made without the technology that people who don’t make art are now insisting is necessary for making art.
I've been to 3 election events now. ABC has avoided public scrutiny at the mayoral, council, and school board level.
Mike Klassen and Lisa Dominato did show up to a Cedar Cottage event - gave an intro and then ran away before they could be asked a question.
They don't deserve to be re-elected.
Distraction is the second leading cause of fatal crashes in our region and province. We hope that all candidates take that seriously, especially those from a party campaigning on public safety.

BREAKING: A BC Supreme Court judge has sided with Jeremy Kalicum and Eris Nyx, who operated an illicit-drug compassion club (Drug User Liberation Front), were convicted of trafficking, and challenged the constitutionality of Canada's drug laws. Trafficking section ruled invalid, convictions stayed.
With road injuries & fatalities on the rise, the next Vancouver council must act to make our streets safer.
We created a list of 10 actionable items for Year 1 of the new council and sent it to all the parties.
Read the list, who endorsed, and who declined to do so:

Calls into question the value of Mayor Ken Sim hiring 200 cops, giving #VPD $479M budget & @vancouverpd.bsky.social claim it patrols Dist. 5 round-the-clock, 24/7.
SCOOP: 404 Media placed a tracking device in a shipment of rare books to see which AI company was buying it. What did we find? It ended up at an Amazon facility where Amazon scans and destroys books.
Yes. This is literally the logo outside the Amazon warehouse door. Read now:
First, the VPD said they couldn't explain how they would spend $1.4 million city council gave them to police five blocks of Granville for seven weeks because it was an operational matter.
Then they said they were still figuring out their plans.
Now they're saying it's too complicated to reveal.
Good Evening, “video games” was a 45 year sociological study conducted by hardware development industries. We are now complete with our study. Thank you for your time.
As the director of a historical video game preservation institution, and someone who has dedicated his entire adult life to this cause, this is accurate. We have attempted to work with the industry's trade organization to find a legal path forward, but they refuse to offer a meaningful alternative.
piracy is the only extant form of media preservation that exists in games right now, you might find it morally reprehensible but there is literally no other institution that will keep games alive in 25, 50 years' time
Statement from VGHF director Frank Cifaldi on the discontinuation of physical PlayStation media, and the closure of the PS3 and PSP digital storefronts.
E.B. Farnum is apparently ungifed, unyoutubed, even uninspiringquote-ed in a low resolution image. A ghost in these copper tubes. Sniveling and groveling has never been so successfully portrayed.
Last summer, I moved a motion to improve the City's road safety policy. And next week, we take the next big step.🚦
Staff are bringing back recommendations on the changes needed to bring fatalities and serious injuries from motor vehicle crashes to zero in Vancouver.
Let's make Vision Zero a reality!
Every summer I repost this article on how to spot drowning. Please read it and pass on. In the last few years I’ve had SIX messages from people who saved a kid’s life after clicking on the link from my feed.
