We've got to nationalize SpaceX. We have no choice. We can't operate our military without them and we can't trust them to serve our national interest. There is literally no other option.

The United States is actively helping Putin murder civilians in Ukraine. Trump is doing everything he can to force Ukraine to surrender to his friend and ally Putin so they can be subjugated by the Russians again.

Ukrainian presidential advisor Serhiy Beskrestnov confirms Elon Musk's Space X crippled Ukrainian capabilities last night. In other words, the US deliberately sabotaged European defence operations mid-mission. Every country in the world should move away from buying American hardware ASAP.

While Russia struck the CHP-4 power station in Kyiv, Ukraine, last night and in doing so once again violated the inexistent energy truce, Starlink has been throttled over Ukraine.

On a positive note, judging by how furious these fucks are and how they've brought out the real big guns to force Ukraine to stop, the strikes against Russia's oil industry are clearly having a very serious impact.

This is a moral atrocity and it needs to be loudly condemned as such. There is a reason that democracies *don't* do publicly televised executions (and why many don't execute people at all): it inculcates and rewards bloodthirst, which corrupts the spirit and corrodes the foundation of the polity.

This is so dangerous! President Trump is deliberately inciting race hatred against an ethnic minority, calling on the people of Minnesota to "fight back" against "Somali immigrants." This must be a terrifying moment for the Somali community (who are overwhelmingly US citizens).

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Trump tries to start a race war: "The once Great State of Minnesota is being taken over by Somali Immigrants ... The Somalians should not be allowed to get away with what they are doing. They view you as weak and stupid people. Fight back Minnesota, fight back!"

this is especially egregious because the housing project being debated will house hundreds of people my rule of thumb is that if the NIMBYs can’t even match the capacity of a new apartment building, their protests should be summarily rejected

🇺🇦 Zelensky: When people talk about ending the war and they talk about historical reasons, it’s bullshit, really. If you want to end the war, you don’t start any war. If you want to solve the problem, you solve it.

I flatly reject the notion that incumbent residents have a right to pick and choose who gets to move into their cities, towns, and neighborhoods. We welcome the stranger, period.

If they win or if they lose it will be impossible to say if it was because of ads like this, but at their heart, these tactics are simply immoral and the illusion of triangulating your way to victory is corrupting to the soul.

if you ever wonder how Americans became the richest major country on the planet but most of us still feel so poor, looking at what we spend on cars — not just directly but in tax money for infrastructure and space in the built environment — is the answer.

Jordan Grimes@cafedujord.bsky.social

Great reminder that the ongoing and intensifying American affordability crisis cannot be solved without major land-use changes (ending sprawl, accelerating infill development at scale) that enable people to ditch their cars and access cheaper/more sustainable mobility modes

Fire Point's new FP-7 short-range ballistic missile is due to enter service with the Ukrainian military within "weeks," with the longer-ranged FP-9"currently undergoing flight tests," according to Fire Point's CEO, Iryna Terekh, speaking at a defense conference in Poland on Sept. 10.

Small business owners are not experts in transportation planning, parking policy, traffic safety, or urban design. Why should we listen to them instead of the city staff who do this for a living?

There are endless studies showing this and also the financial and societal benefits of universal basic income and or housing-first policies but the U.S. never goes for any of it because it would require allowing the poor to receive benefits that the rich consider “undeserved”

ICE has fallen out of the headlines but July marked the largest number of migrant detentions ever on record. Five migrants have died in ICE custody in the last two months. It's also currently impossible to legally migrate to this country, as 100% of visa applications have been paused.

In contrast, a statistical model based purely on (a) historical error of primary polls and (b) the high quality polling of the race (Marquette and Impact were at Hong+11 and 13) would have given Crowley a 25% chance. Fundamentals probably even higher for him (Hong was outspent by about 13x)

I have defended pollsters and their work has been pretty darn accurate now for years. But I’m curious about how they have now twice vastly overestimated the support of progressive candidates.

also going to pointedly note that the last Marquette survey of the WI Dem primary had like one third undecideds and that sometimes what polling tells you is that there's a lot of uncertainty and room for shifts in a race

Between 2016 and today, the US has spent almost $9 trillion on defense. It then ran dangerously low in many advanced munitions fighting a country with no air force and navy--after about two months of combat operations. This is an extraordinary scandal.

Yglesias thinks he's shrewdly cynical, but really he's just an unprincipled dolt with mean impulses. Democratic candidates gain absolutely nothing by adopting conservative bigotries, they just signal to their base that they're not worth voting for. The net result is always negative.

The alarmist "what if Putin escalates?" hand wringing every time Ukraine gains momentum is tiresome. Putin can't escalate w anything but full mobilization, which is risky for his political grip and might not be as useful in the new drone war. He's increasingly in a no-win situation. That's good
