I emailed Patrick Healy, assistant managing editor for standards and trust at NYT, to ask why their story about a House report with new details of rape allegations against the President of the United States included neither those details, nor a single use of the word "rape." archive.is/1s9AM

“It’s no use trying to stop me. I am no longer a human being, I am an idea that floats in the air. An idea that mingles with your ideas. When I stop dreaming, I will dream through your minds. The powerful may kill one, two, or three roses, but they will never be able to stop the arrival of spring"

Lula, one of the all-time great politicians Millions are celebrating Lula's victory. To understand what it means for Brazil & indeed for the world, have a look at 'Edge of Democracy'. Incredibly moving to see Lula & PT fight Brazil's "bullets, beef & Bible' forces for so long with so much fortitude

I’m not a political journalist, so was gladly surprised at the community I found here last night. To Americans anxious about the upcoming elections, a key thing we learned in Brazil that might help you: DO NOT engage with the far-right online. Don’t share rage bait. Amplify your people. Ignore them.

I think the lesson from Lula is not never talk about the opposition; it's articulate a positive vision that's basically, We Can Just Do Things. That's why Mamdani-ism is so popular - voters have an intrinsic sense that their electeds have agency they're not using

Fuck David Eby. The only tiny consolation here is at least he'll go down in history as one of the greatest boneheads Canadian politics ever produced. He'll be a cautionary tale. Anytime a charmless jackass shoots themself in the foot, they'll be pulling an Eby.

This 19th c lady’s multitool was found in the pocket(!) of an antique (1872) garment donated to the historic clothing archive at my employer. It features a button hook for fitted gloves and a tiny corkscrew. The corkscrew is too small for wine & was probably intended to open apothecary bottles.

OUCH. Bloc Québécois MP @patbonin.bsky.social absolutely clears the environment minister in this clip on Bill C-39. My translation: “It’s sad to see the minister who is giving the impression of wanting to convince herself that the bill that’s directly under her purview isn’t a disaster.

It would be deeply ironic if the election of a BC Conservative government, and the ensuing war with First Nations in that province, scuttled the oil pipeline so many Conservatives in BC claim to support.

I looked up this guy's church and the website has no photos. So I looked up the address and it's suite 100 in this multi-unit "flex center." Oh.

US garment workers helped pioneer multi-ethnic labor unions, which united people across racial, religious, gender, linguistic, and cultural divides. Also native-born citizens and immigrants. I think about that sometimes when I see people suggest such divides are unbridgeable.
