Oof, just watched the first episode of S3 of shrinking, think the Paul storyline might cut too close to the bone this season

At least we didn't all lose our minds and inflict ten years of the Tories on ourselves in order to eventually try and sneak a watered down version of the 2019 Labour manifesto back in and hope nobody notices and asks awkward questions.

Not that the rest is going to be plain sailing, but I don't understand how this can't be late stage capitalism. One person has as much wealth as almost half the world's population combined. Quantitative easing aside it is a zero sum game. Wealth isn't created, it's taken.

The same applies for those desperate for an AI "utopia" (which isn't coming from LLMs), when you've automated all the jobs and made everyone redundant who is going to buy all your shit. It can't possibly work in any long term. It's all short termist leeches bleeding the world dry, for what?

Hard to overstate the consternation, and indeed anger, around this. Brian Cox: "These devastating and irreversible cuts are a legacy from a series of hasty and ill-considered decisions taken by UKRI, overseen by a government department that no longer exists."

Earlier this year UKRI launched a funding call to invest £40M in ONE AI lab. www.ukri.org/opportunity/... For some unknown reason they decided to fund TWO AI labs at the cost of £60M. An extra £20M. Just found. That's the equivalent of 7 more years of Jodrell Bank. www.ukri.org/news/ukri-la...

I'm absolutely devastated for colleagues at Jodrell Bank who found out this morning that funding for the UK's e-MERLIN radio telescope array will be terminated. This is a short-sighted move, to save a tiny fraction of the overall UK science budget. #SaveJodrellBank 🔭🧪 www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Little known to many, on the 10th June, the government released the interim report on ADHD and neurodiversity services in the UK. It came out to very little fanfare. Why? Because it doesn't match the government & the press narrative on "an epidemic of neurodiversity diagnoses".

Did you know the PlayStation buttons were meant to represent this? They definitely missed that mark 😆 If you don't know me, I'm Peebs. I work in the gaming industry and share retro and contemporary games here, and I definitely should have known this years ago #VideoGames #RetroGaming #PlayStation

I would REALLY like to see the cat road collisions petition actually get somewhere this time. Two weeks left to get it over the 100k line so ministers can't just shrug and go "nah that's just for dogs" as they have previously. Please sign and share:

petition.parliament.ukPetition: Legislate to require drivers to report collisions with catsIt is legal in the UK to hit a cat when driving and not need to stop or report collisions, leaving them scared, alone, and in pain. Cats are important, loved, valued family members for many and we believe the law should reflect this.

Matthew Lillard criticized the industry for prioritizing celebrities over voice actors in animation: “The ability to carry a film, as the lead of a film with only a voice, is a power very few people have. The idea that they keep hiring crappy celebrities to carry huge films is killing us.”

If we’d done net zero 16 years ago when interest rates were 0.0001% we’d be insulated from fossil fuel spikes from wars but those of us suggesting this at the time were “looney left LGBT Islamofascists”

I was responsible for this (it was literally my idea while I was Product Manager for Media Playout at the BBC) and it is still my proudest achievement ever

There’s a brutal truth here about how the british press unified to side with foreign genocidal white supremacists against the domestic anti-racist movement and it cannot ever be acknowledged, for reasons that should be pretty clear.

flyingrodent@flyingrodent.bsky.social

Yes, they’re all wingnuts and quite a lot of Israel partisans are just straight up fascists. The British press should have a serious inquest into how they came to platform so many people with the politics of Ian Paisley or Eugene Terre-Blanche. They will not do that, because they know exactly why.
