users: I do not want your shitty ai how can I turn it off? companies: oohhh, no, you can't do that. literally. we built it so you literally cannot turn it off. *ten minutes later* companies: good news, every body! our breakthrough ai feature has one hundred percent adoption rate!

This fucking government lmao "The young people have no jobs!!!" Seconds later "AI is good, build datacentres!" WOW I WONDER

As someone who was hospitalized for five days after a cold turned into an inner ear infection and caused SEVERE vertigo, you can be perfectly healthy and still have major complications from "just a cold". It's 2.5 years later and I'm STILL using a cane and doing PT in the hopes of fully recovering.

talia jane@taliajane.bsky.social

Regular reminder that when you go to things while sick, you are giving those germs to people with autoimmune disorders, you’re passing them to someone’s newborn, to someone’s elderly parents. It’s “just a cold” to you but it can and does severely impact countless people.

This is worth noting for a lot of people, really. If you're following artists who aren't putting stuff behind paywalls, consider throwing them some tips anyway as a thank-you to ensure they keep making the stuff you like!

Dieselbrain@dieselbrain.bsky.social

like i really just wanna Make Shit and show people and folks who want to see more of it happen will occasionally throw me me like $5. but i want EVERYONE to have it. you know? [also: this is not a judgement of folks with strict exclusivity. fukkin, do what you gotta do man]

If I can figure out how to make a bot account, do I do it just to remind people every few hours to write letters by hand and send mail

I've seen an increase in this behavior as well. I know that people gotta eat, but remember not to get so desperate for work that you're majorly undercutting wages. These companies know they can probably find someone who will do the same work for cheaper since so many people are looking for work. :(

Aysha@ayshaufarah.bsky.social

do... people not know about negotiating rates? I've had multiple times now when I quote a client the high end of my rates and they immediately ghost me. I'm not going to lowball myself my dude this is freelance 101

I just want to name that people overcame this. Even against a stacked deck, the good fight is worth it. Win or lose, it's worth it. And sometimes the good guys win.

Bolsonaro-friendly mayors appear to be sabotaging public transport on Election Day. Buses aren’t running in Lula-friendly areas, flights and ferries mysteriously canceled. Traffic lights have gone out and people’s power cut in Salvador, indigenous people’s travel restricted

Mina reposted

So how did Lula come from behind to defeat Bolsonaro? In short, turnout. Bolsonaro's vote share barely moved. But Lula banked millions of votes from those who didn't vote in the first round & won eliminated candidates' votes. A remarkable mobilisation. Second round turnout is usually below first.

between serbia, brazil, and hopefully november 3, a good reminder: voting works it’s not the end, there’s always work to be done after the vote, but if you want to beat the motherfuckers and keep them out of power: vote your asses off

... I know I should play some new to me horror but like... I should replay Arkham Asylum. ( I have Alone in the Dark remake keyed up, Silent Hill F, Amnesia, The Sinking City, Lords of Shadow, DMC 1, Nancy Drew, and other stuff too. I am spoiled for choice, I just... miss Arkham 1)

I mean, it's good to back up and sort through files. I know that. I even got stuff from my phone moved into it. But MAN is it time consuming and kind of confusing. (Files not showing up even when searching the name, others having two different file sizes, etc)

Like I'm SORRY but South of Midnight is 80 gigs on steam, it's not in my windows file search, and it says that my GOG files are like... 2 MB. Arkham Asylum is not 2 MB. And I have a video on my phone. I want to back up said video. Computer says video is not there despite being connected to it.

During the brazilian elections we learned one obvious but important tactic to defeat the far right on the Internet and I think everyone should know it: IGNORE THEM! DON'T ENGAGE WITH THEIR CONTENT! DON'T MAKE CONTENT REACTING TO THEM! DON'T HATE QRT! LET THEM ALONE IN THEIR BUBBLE!

First of all, how on earth is CVS "struggling" when their pharmacies are everywhere in much of the country, plus they own Aetna and the Minute Clinic? It's entirely possible for someone to have a cold/flu diagnosed, get the prescription drugs and deal with the insurance without ever leaving a CVS.

There was a fucking hole in our planet’s *atmosphere* Like a legit, no joke, “this will unravel our entire ecosystem” hole in the world, and then we fixed it by working together across national and political lines As a species we decided, “we will survive” Let’s do that some more

The Orange County Registrar of Voter (OCROV), led by Bob Page (who had to undergo a full on baseless inquisition by our HB city council), is the gold standard for not just our state, nor our country, but for other countries as well in that they come in and ask “how do we keep our elections secure?”

Kyle Griffin@kylegriffin1.bsky.social

BREAKING: The Trump DOJ just sent letters to local election officials across California — every county in the state — demanding they identify potential noncitizens on their voter rolls and set aside their ballots. Local officials would "risk significant federal scrutiny" if they failed to comply.

our institutions have stopped hiring, we've been telling students not to pursue advanced study, and to the extent that humanists have mounted a defence, it's been by pleading our utility as an adjunct of STEM disciplines and professional schools in short, it all worked

Humanities dissertations have fallen by 49 percent since 2015, compared with a drop of 4.5 percent in the social sciences, according to a new analysis of nearly 445,000 dissertations in these two fields over 65 years. Explore the data: https://chroni.cl/4yxUZ4S

Once mass spam texts were made legal, younger donors vanished, leaving a grassroots fundraising machine that subsists on squeezing vulnerable seniors, some of whom give hundreds of times a day. It’s a horrific model. Consultants get generationally wealthy, and the party hollows out its future.

Jake Grumbach@jakemgrumbach.bsky.social

We found that as of right now 73% of your campaign donation goes back to the consultants and vendors (!!!), four times more than just 20 years ago. Only 13% to ads. Even I was shocked.

it’s amazing how these billionaire tech freaks *love* mainstream sci-fi and superhero movies, and also manage to completely miss the incredibly unsubtle and heavy-handed “we need to protect human creativity and freedom” moral that essentially all those movies are imbued with

I visited MLK Community Hospital in South LA, the only safety-net hospital serving poor patients in the area. The ER was built for 25,000 patients a year; it gets 120,000. I saw patients getting treated in the gift shop, the chapel, in tents, even outdoors. And this is before the Medicaid cuts.

People tend to associate stage melodrama and melodrama tropes with the silent era but the movies were spoofing these cliches from the start. AND THE VILLAIN STILL PURSUED HER (1906) is a wonderfully weird and surreal sendup of the old stage warhorses.

The DCCC coordinating on this is truly a vile turn. Just a complete abdication of basic morality and an unequivocal endorsement of fascism.

Christopher Street Project@christopherstreet.bsky.social

We all know what “protect girls’ sports” means in the 2026 election cycle. DCCC coordinating on an ad using that language is unacceptable, and it gives other campaigns permission to follow. This is an inappropriate use of party resources. (1/3) www.erininthemorning.com/p/dccc-relea...
