6. Nolan tries to pack a lot of Incidents and Big Ideas into this film, but they do not seem to me to hang together coherently on the level of his own plot and the movie's constructed system of values. Instead, it's foisting a didactic point about Our Times onto the plot without integrating it.

Trump says he's interested in govt taking equity stakes in the giant AI companies like OpenAI or Anthropic: "There's something very interesting about it, where it almost becomes a partnership. The American people can benefit from the success of AI, and by doing that, they're gonna like it better."

"this would be really bad and so, ipso facto, it can't happen" is the assumption underlying the entire Trump era and it's sort of bleakly funny to see people clinging to it even as the train is jumping the tracks

It should be noted that she left Congress so she could say stuff like this but without actually having any levers of power to do so. It's all a scam, except for the millions that will die abroad.

Just yesterday the Netanyahu govt adopted a law to hang Palestinians who commit certain crimes in the West Bank but not Israeli settlers who commit the same crimes. Why are we sending a blank check of billions of $ to a govt that pursues these & other blatantly racist policies?

Funny thing about American mass media is how woke content is broadly popular, routinely pays for itself, and sometimes goes blockbuster, whereas right-wing content is a narrow niche that rarely reaches breakeven, never goes blockbuster, and usually requires immense subsidies for it to exist at all.

Jim Cramer suggests on CNBC that Trump could “bomb Tehran into the Stone Age” until Iran reopens the strait, citing U.S. bombings of North Vietnam in the 1970s. Carl Quintanilla points out to him that Hanoi won that war.

People are like “He just did it because it pays well.” Yeah, and that’s literally the same reason all the centrist politicians you dislike did all the jobs you find disqualifying, too. Up to you whether you find “lobbying for an HMO” or “being a mercenary” a more alarming form of selling out
