The US State Department is forcing all of its employees to cancel subscriptions to any Trump-unfriendly media.

I would suggest that everyone — not just government employees — get a library card. You can read a TON of magazines & newspapers through your library. The Hoopla app, among others, are also available through the library to read, listen to, or watch a multitude of media.

The first target of all oligarchs & other authoritarians: the *independence* of cultural life — freedom of information and media, freedom of expression, freedom of religion, freedom of education, freedom of art, & last but not least the freedom of gender identity. #followthecompass Agree? Share!

[removes initial response] JFC Having a breadth of sources is essential for anyone, but especially the State Department. This hinders balanced and unbias analysis of the geopolitical landscape. Who else has authoritarian coup in less than 21 days on their bingo card?

It seems almost unavoidable at this point that we are headed for a deep, deep recession. Just based on 200K+ federal firings & pullback of contracts, the March employment report (to be released April 4) seems certain to show bigger job losses than any month ever outside of a few in 2008-9 and 2020.

This is bad but it’s a little funny because half of them have been carrying water for the republicans including trump for years (especially politico and the “accountability journalists” at the times). Hopefully, there is a lesson there about sucking up to would be tyrants

And as anyone knows, those are in no way "unfriendly" to Trump. But fascists can only tolerate the most pure propaganda as a demonstration of their power when they take control. bsky.app/profile/dave...

It will come to US private life too. Don't worry. Project 2025 is just setting the scene to limit all deviant information. Just like independent media was persecuted in Russia and China. The US will be a full blown authoritarian state in 2 months.

The silence about these things in the US is deafening. 320 million people are taken to the slaughterhouse and the majority of politicians, judges and citizens does even raise an eyebrow. I studied History and read a lot about Germany 1930ies... Now I am seeing it happen... Live.

🇨🇵 1984! Normal! It's Putin influence. In Munich, Mr. Vance made recommendations to us on good American practices that we are asked to follow.Accept annonymous criminal point of view, insults, defamation etc. eat american junk food to be herd of obese sheep. Fight fight fight...

Sorry, are they forcing employees to cancel subs, or merely cutting funding? Genuine question, it's not clear to me (and I'm not American so slightly out of the loop). Ie, is there anything to stop employees from taking out personal subs?

Fuck this Putin dictator bullshit Jesus fuck when are people gonna stand up to this shit America is asleep at the fucking wheel and I am terrified that people just don’t give a shit

Looks like they cannot subscribe to any media that is not a strictly "academic or professional journals.” So they think it is a good idea to cut foreign diplomats from accessing any news? WTF is wrong with these people? Are they going to just give our nation to Putin or what?

I wonder if there'll be mandated subscriptions to alternative news outlets? Are there enough there that are pro-Trump? Will it just be multiple subscriptions to the New York Post and maybe the UK's Telegraph and Daily Mail?

The State Dept has an open source intelligence analysis division. News publications are critical to understanding the “temperature” in the world. A formerly critical function of DoS and one that other intel agencies would lean on for context.

Obviously, tons of super useful international content for State Department staff on Gateway Pundit, so who needs The Economist. I’m guessing they’ve already signed up for Pravda for everybody…

Brought to you by a government whose vice president defames European countries as undemocratic and restrictive of free speech for the far right - on the very same day that representatives of said extremist party freely spread their ideas on prime-time television. Springfield is real!
