Why? Why? Fucking why? Why? Seriously, why? Nobody wants this. Nobody asked for this. Nobody fucking needs this. If it ain't fucking broke, don't fucking fix it. Easy as.

I've been using Firefox since I started using a computer as a little one and I'm PISSED I have to change browsers again! This is like the 3rd one!!! I've had small stints with Chrome before it got shitty and Opera before it got shitty and now the FOX!? I'm furious!!!

Swapped successfully to Waterfox after a few people rec'd it and since it's not Chromium I trust it more. Vilvaldi or whatever is apparently quite good but I truly was in a zone with the group + pin abilities on Firefox so Waterfox just makes sense. TOO BAD IT'S ICON IS TERRIBLE TOO!

I sincerely hope "AI browser" actually means "AI browser wink wink", meaning it's already a web browser and 3rd party AI services already work so there's nothing to do or add. 🤞

but then fuckers telling me “oh kling is a fasho dickhead” everyone is a dickhead in the browser wars and somehow the fasho is the least worst dickhead between ”don’t be evil” and “that’s a promise”, neither of which hold true by now. servo? oh ive heard shits dead

oh and no one cares about safari, it’s apple-exclusive (it wasn’t once) and it’s part of “duh eckoseestem” and if you were anywhere near that you would know how restricted access that piece of shit is browser wars are beyond retarded today

That's what I use too. I have Firefox installed for watching YouTube only, but I guess I'll just install a chrome based browser.

Ah, well ain't that just peachy, and none of the Firefox forks are available in the Debian stable default repos and I really didn't want to add another one Falkon it is then for now, didn't want a Chromium based one but my hand's forced for now, at least the project behind it is solid 🫠

I always used Firefox, now they're pushing me away with this AI garbage. Nobody wants AI yet every company under the sun is starting to shove it into everyone's faces. Time to move to AI free forks then. LibreWolf it'll be.

"We know our user and we always provide a simple opt-out for IA" FOSS user that don't care about Mozilla never having money to develop the only alternative to chrome : "WELL GUESS I WILL KILL YOU THEN. FUCKING HATE YOU, DIE, DIE" You're all dumb, you know that ? Answer the funding question plz

"WHAT ?!? My technology company have to follow the INDUSTRY?!? And find a way to... Have money ?!?! So weird !! Why they do AI like all the rest of the industry? To like, survive ?? So weird!" You all, on Firefox every day, every time.

windows is going to be an "agentic ai canvas", all your webbrowsers are going to be ai browsers, as if anyone can actually explain what any use of all that is beyond "look your pc can autonomously buy your tickets for you now. don't think of the implications, convenience only!"

JUST MAKE A FORKED BROWSER GOD DAMMIT *explodes* make an ai browser for the losers and just let us have one good working fucking thing that isn't infested with digital worms.

How to turn off Firefox AI Features: 1. On the Sidebar, click the gear icon, then uncheck "AI Chatbot". 2. In the search bar, type "about:config". Search for settings beginning with "browser.ml." Change browser.ml.enable and browser.ml.chat.enable to False. Your CPU will thank you.

Even if AI *wasn't* a terrible thing to add to Firefox, the market's full. What do they bring to the table that would bring people away from the established players or the numerous AI-browser startups? This sort of move is a sure sign of a company with zero ideas. It rarely has a happy ending.

I already said it in the past - Mozilla would LOVE to be Google instead of just being unofficial Google subsidiary IF they had the chance. People thought just because they're the non-Chromium alternative that they're noble, forgetting ALL the stuff they did or tried to do for the last ten years.

I read this then and was thinking "Oh I should install Brave then" but then I go to their website and they fucking give you crypto for looking at ads. Yuck! My friend told me about Floorp which is basically Firefox but opened source and also Thing, Japan

If I had a nickel for every time I turned off a feature on a piece of software only to have it switch back on after an update rollout, I'd be able to buy enough sandwiches to feed myself for a year or so.

While I don't think AI is the boogie man that everyone else does, I do question Mozilla's choice here. I am pretty sure most people who want AI in their lives are already using it at this point.

Say what now? I've been using it for quite a while. The only time there is a real delay is when you hibernated some tabs you weren't using (but this feature can be customized). Maybe it's a bug for some, but definitely not a feature.

One of the reasons I switched to Waterfox and never looked back. Mozilla was going downhill a while, then they killed XUL extensions without full replacement APIs that they promised and never delivered. Back then, non-Chrome alternatives were not sufficient, but now they are. RIP Firefox to me.

That’s a sales pitch that hasn’t been true for a good couple of months at least. They’ve been smearing that stuff in in all sorts of ways from sidebars, context menus, a tiny LLM to try to categorize tabs, etc. Every single damn one has a new off switch somewhere different.

Yuk. I remember turning off something with AI in an update but thought that was with another browser. I don't use sidebars, suggestions, tab groups etc so wouldn't remember those. Sounds like I'm going to regret accepting the update Firefox has been trying to get me to accept for a few weeks now?

Found myself instinctively going from Zen to Vivaldi for some reason. Think it's because of how polished it is (though admittedly, Zen and Vivaldi are apples to oranges in that regard)

it's an open source derivative of firefox with heavy crackdowns on security and privacy, all of that tracking shit disabled, and it has stricter privacy defaults because of this, it might require configuration for some people, but it's been so nice for me after some fine tuning

Vivaldi - has a built-in adblocker, you can use uBlock Origin Lite or AdGuard if you don't like it, Vivaldi has specifically said they won't add generative AI features to the browser. Most they have is language translation but people are generally happy with that use case.

I've been thinking about using DuckDuckGo's browser for a while since I'm already using them as my primary search and their privacy extension. Might be a good time to do it. They do also gives users the use anonymized Duck.ai with various models, but it's nothing "on" by default and can be ignored.

Sincerely can someone explain to me what AI Browser means? What does it do that’s different than a regular browser? “Firefox, organize my bookmarks”? “Show me more websites please”. What the fuck are we talking about here?
