We knew from the start we can’t get everything right. Moderation is a hard problem, and it’s impossible to please everyone. So we built a protocol where you always have the right to leave. If you don’t trust us, or don’t like our decisions, you deserve the right to choose an alternative.

"cant get everything right" and then its banning Journalists. you have a platform people rely on for information and you lied to our faces and said you took that seriously. "if you dont like it leave" is fine conduct for a playground not an information platform. the only person we dont need is you

I smell appeasement in your timing. There’s a difference between threatening to kill and saying that you believe someone either deserved to die or that you are not sorry someone died. Let people be offended and blocked if they disagree. This kind of nanny oversight is why we can left Twitter.

Wasn't the whole point of bluesky supposed to be that we would be able to set up our own instances and moderate them the way we want? Or was that aspect never fully realized?

"the protocol allows that, do it yourself, losers" is the response. Blacksky is up, Northsky is coming soon, others probably exist.

I recognize it's hard, no one said it was easy and if they did, they're wrong. but some very obvious choices have been made on who to suspend/ban, and it really really looks like this site is siding with the ones who are actually inciting violence. just another perspective here.

You have known issues (a transphobic moderator). It's not a matter of effort, but of intent. Famously misleading (and trending!) WSJ article is still up, but trans people get banned for mildly inappropriate jokes.

This thread is nothing but Charlie Kirk quotes. I highly suggest you read it This is who you are defending. You are taking the side of people who agree with these things and supported the guy who said them Please reconsider your response and actions here.

“I think it's worth it. It’s worth to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the Second Amendment to protect our other God-given rights. That is a prudent deal." - Charlie Kirk

People leaving your business cause you don't offer a good product is not a featured option, it was always an option you don't have a choice in the matter outside of doing better.

When we tolerate intolerance, the intolerant destroy the tolerant. We've passed fear and anger. We're seeing hate and suffering. Suggestions of a final solution (genocide) have been presented on the news. Now, neglected human rights can be solved by a needle. www.newsweek.com/fox-news-hos...

I think a conversation should be had about how admin and moderation seem to hate the community responsible for this websites success and instead of destroying the whole thing they could try to hand ownership to a user co-op and try to create their libertarian crypto utopia again elsewhere.

People came here because they DON'T want Twitter. Was that not evident? Refraining from unfairly targeting trans people, & uplifting white supremacists is not actually "hard" at all, & it's okay if you don't "please" the bigots, seditionists & fascists. How is this a complicated equation?

moderation is hard, yes. but this implies that the bluesky approach to hard problems is to shrug your shoulders and say "shucks, i guess we can't rise to the challenge" which, i'm going to take a wild fucking guess, is not the culture you claim to have in 99% of situations

came here to say this. Everybody here has already proven they will up and leave a platform and start over to escape this kind of mismanagement. Daring this user base to walk is crazy. Especially when all we are asking is common sense moderation that treats minorities better than nazis

The fact that your actions over the last 3 days have you yourself discussing alternatives to your business should be a clarifying thing. You know deep down you’ve made some real mistakes here.

Just because moderation is hard doesn't mean you have to become fascist sympathizers? You're turning bluesky into the place people came to bluesky to avoid

So, let me get this straight. You’ve prioritized banning marginalized people for not having much sympathy for a man who hated them but you can ignore my reports of a man who’s been harassing me since Thursday. “Just leave”? How about you fix your platform and make it safe for all, including speech

uhm...this is valid if you're on bsky hosted pds, right? I don't want to sound "well, achtually" but to enforce why we should just move away from bsky infra, the sooner the better

"We knew from the start we can't get everything right" You HAD it right at the start and then started glorifying trans/minority harassment and Nazis and silenced anyone who spoke out against it, YOU made the problem yourself, YOU'RE the one who needs to leave for it to get better. It's that simple.

"we knew from the start we can't get everything right" when your team has done the equivalent of hitting the accelerator when there's a deer in the road is a poor cop-out. this is hurting everyone involved, and if you care about the long-term success of your site, you should TRY a LOT HARDER

ESPECIALLY when alternate PDSes aren't viable yet. ESPECIALLY when there isn't a niche for everyone ready to go. ESPECIALLY when the site you're BASED on made the mistake of catering to fascists, and YOUR success is DEPENDENT on that. ESPECIALLY when marginalized people are dying because of it.

you are on the wrong side of history, and I will post all about it on a DIFFERENT PDS as SOON as I'm able to move. I will make sure you are not forgotten, and end up in history books as a cautionary tale.

Jay, are you going to do or say anything about the NY Post using Bluesky to spread blatant transphobia and lies about Charlie Kirk’s killer? No? Why the double standard?

But you're not even trying. The team puts in a lot of work, but when certain people point out certain issues you ignore 'em. A few days later: more platitudes! "If you don't like it, leave?" Hell of a thing to say to the people who built your website up from just another failed Twitter knockoff.

The primary reason folk use Bluesky is because it's a left-leaning, or at least not toxic right social media platform If you get moderation wrong, and your users don't feel safe, you have NOTHING You have NO unique selling point other than your users. It's just Twitter with half the functionality

Fuck off Jay. Your platform hinges on being better than twitter. You're basically the democratic candidate of social media platforms. At the end of the day you arent actually lookong out for your users and probably would fuck us all over if it came down to it.

Or you could just simply course correct from making a bad call, admit your mistake & work toward a better solution, instead of digging your heels in and plowing through or just throwing your hands up like there's absolutely nothing you can do to make the situation better. Wild food for thought.

Right now there's not a lot of trust, and "you deserve the right to choose an alternative" sounds an awful lot like "my way or the highway". We're not asking for perfect. We're asking for *better*. Current moderation is opaque and non-responsive. If you *want* to be another X, you're on that path.

Respectfully, noone is asking you to please everyone! We're just asking for you to be fair and consistent, to not crack down on marginalized folks while letting known bigots get away with similar or worse behavior

What a cop out. The "protocol". You can "leave". Just like the capitalist simps who say "you can just get another job" or the racists who say, "you can just leave the country." That is some intensely ingrained bigotry right there.

You could at least try to get SOME things right. Instead, you guys have taken aim at our most vulnerable people. The people, I might remind you, who made your site, THIS very site, viable. You bit the hands that fed you. Do not get all uppity now.

"It's impossible to please everyone, so we're gonna put our efforts into trying to please the bigots who will never be satisfied and will always do their thin-skin kayfabe to demand that things go more and more their way."
