Sometimes I wonder if giving up a steady paycheck was the right call and sometimes I don't.

Another abominable editorial from the Wash Post

I backed away from an adjunct gig because of lousy treatment. I am paid less now for my teaching, but still do rewarding work and, importantly, the main org that pays me respects its instructors. That job might or might not last (federal recission). So, I have like three jobs now... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

After 40 years as a print subscriber, switched to digital and then cancelled completely in the past 12 months. I wish I could support the remaining journalists, but can't stomach giving anything to the stinking pile of 💩 that is in charge.

It takes some balls do give up the steady pay and you did it. Also, I think it’s a hidden blessing NPR was cut off from fed money… journalists like you belong there. I hope the whores stay at the WP and REAL journalists find their way to NPR or similar media.

I stopped reading WaPo editorials to avoid being triggered. I’m much calmer and more intellectually fulfilled. Do t have to fret about the many journalistic shortcomings of WaPo.

As someone who made that transition in another field 10 years ago, let me say that the first two years feel the most uncertain as you find your niche and audience (or customers, in my case). After that, it feels a lot more solid, and you start to enjoy the creativity of charting your own path.

“Born into wealth and privilege” and chose to do good instead of Trump who has squandered every gift he has been given and chosen a life of every type of crime from pedophilia to theft to extortion to cold-blooded murder.

they could probably increase their subscriber base by offering a hard news only subscription so that you avoid the editorials completely. The editorial side is now a tout sheet for Bezos, they should just sell if for a nickel on the corner.

If you told me this was one of the College Republican guest columns I used to edit for my school paper I'd have believed you. I didn't pay $15 a month for that and I ain't doing it anymore now

It can hardly come as a surprise that the Bezos class is apoplectic about the Mamdani threat. More overt attacks will come if he wins the election. Takes courage to leave a job on principle. Kudos and thanks for that to all that have abandoned the Post tragedy.

There was a sentence in the editorial "Supporters of free markets have failed to articulately make their case in New York" and it's just one of those "okay that's technically a sentence but... you're a newspaper. And you have editors that should tear their hair out seeing that written."

I admire those who gave up the paycheck. I admire those who fight the system from within until let go. I don't admire those who let their voice used for evil just for a paycheck. There is no one currently at WaPo that I admire. And sadly I now root for its demise.

So...the Bezos Post is now openly denigrating him because he's a traitor to his class? Well, that explains all the hate and fearmongering directed against him by the oligarchy's propaganda outlets. Nothing obscenely rich people hate and fear more than a president who knows exactly how they roll.

That editorial could apply to Musk, Thiel, Sacks, Andreeson and all the rest of the Techbro-Paypal mafia as easily as to Mamdani. Destroying the system that made them wealthy? Has the editorial author read anything by Curtis Yarvon? I guess burning it all down is fine if the rich own the ashes.

if elected he would be the mayor what powers do they think the NYC mayor has meanwhile, that description fits someone who does actually have that power

Having options & remaining satisfied w a steady paycheck at Wash Post, Lockheed Martin, tesla, Space X, etc. is beginning to look a lot like having options & remaining satisfied w a steady paycheck at VW in 1943 . . .

Ah, the old "money vs integrity" challenge. A classic in the last three or four decades of American life. I think choosing "integrity" gets easier as you get older. I'm one of many who are glad you chose the way you did.

I think being entitled is a problem if you don't know how to live without. When you have that experience it gives you a totally different outlook of the problems.Taxing the rich is not a new solution.Tax rates of 92%, 94% were done. It was 88% or higher from 1942 to 1963. Imagine what could be done.
