I used to manage wine programs for movie theaters and I am in the extremely unique position to say with professional certainty that the answer here is a crisp Albariño.

asking the sommelier which wine pairs best with swedish fish

This went by on my feed about 4 times before I realised that "swedish fish" did not mean "herring in sour cream"

Something bright with good acid like a Sauvignon blanc or, if you’re feeling festive, a blanc de blanc. The brightness will help balance the bold sweetness from the red vine. Plus you can use them as a straw!

A German Riesling or a Grüner Veltliner feels natural here! If your theater has a more limited selection, an oaked Chardonnay would lend some nice body to cheese and round out the buttery notes in the pretzel.

I'm a little late to the party, but I gotta ask. Is there a single wine that would pair with a hot dog and a box of Buncha Crunch? That used to be my go-to at the theater.

I’d suggest something lighter against the semi-sweet chocolate, like a Pinot noir or a Merlot if you prefer. But the candies on top provide extra sweetness and crunch, and I’d be tempted to try these with something sparkling that provides a little extra mouthfeel to complement them in a unique way!

Albariño feels like it’s still always on the cusp of getting traction on menus, but so many places still stick to Chard/Sauvvy B/Pinto Grigio and are scared to try anything else 😭

Cabernet Sauvignon is gonna stand up against the oils in the chocolate and candy nicely, and a Bordeaux style blend with some Cabernet franc will add some nice complexity against the peanut.

A sommelier once pointed out to me that dry sake provided a perfect counterpart to salty buttered popcorn. It's changed my life and I'm waiting for the day when theaters figure this trick out. But in the meantime, they're available in pocket-sized bottles!

Buncha Crunch are a lighter chocolate, so a lighter red would be nice to bring out the chocolate notes without overpowering their flavor. A Pinot noir could be great! Mike & Ikes are fruit forward. A Riesling or Gerwurtztraminer might pick up those tropical fruit notes nicely!

If it’s real butter, I’d go with a stainless Chardonnay, which will cut through the richness and also take on the buttery notes you expect from an oaked chard. A sparkling white would be nice here, too! Or, a big Cabernet Sauvignon will feel just like a fountain coke!

What about Twizzlers? Keep in mind I like to bite the ends off and use it as a straw, so the wine will be coming directly into contact with the strawberry 🍓 licorice! I await your reply!

I texted my Master Sommelier friend and got this: "Vinho verde. Anything really dry, high acidity, citrus notes. White. Anything that cleanses that palate and makes the Swedish fish taste fresh(ish) and not overly sweet each time. Or even a super dry apple cider."
