Going to the nearest Fed building today and claim I discovered it. Anyone within will now be subject to my rule. I promise to be benevolent as needed, but some degree of subjugation may be required.

What is a better example of "poetic justice" than to designate this date as indigenous peoples day? Columbus was a brutal and cruel invader who mistreated the inhabitants of the lands he "discovered". He behaved, not as a guest, and even kidnapped some as trophies when he returned home.

Columbus didn’t “discover” America, people already lived here. He enslaved, tortured, and killed Indigenous Taíno, launching centuries of genocide and colonization. Myths of heroism erase this. Indigenous Peoples’ Day honors survival, truth, and humanity over conquest.

Yes, you read that right, this holiday was originally enacted because of how badly we had treated immigrants. It seems not much has changed since 1891. Shameful on so many levels at once...

Happy Indigenous Peoples Day to all First Nation peoples out there. Am for one forever ashamed at injustices brought upon you in the past, those you face in the present, and the indigniies you may experience in the future. Your resilience is admirible and honorable. Peace my brothers and sisters.

What is even more interesting is that Columbus didn't come to North America - only into the Caribbean. And obviously the Italians have more of a clout than the Irish, since St. Patricks Day isn't a national holiday.
