Lads, if I was you I would try to make it less obvious who it is that is baying for more fascism, crackdowns on democracy, corruption and looting of the world’s wealth

"Suicidal provocation of Russia while our armed forces are at their most woeful state since WW2". Mate, the Russian army is currently pulling T-55's out of storage and losing ~1,800 men a day in foot and motorcycle assaults that achieve nothing. This is "poke the bear" nonsense.

Well you can't get much clearer than that. Restore are Putin stooges.

This thread could just as equally be about Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.

Benjamin Dewey@benjamindewey.bsky.social

I 1/2 watched The Mandalorian movie a while back because I’d heard it was a Star Wars death rattle of sorts & that isn’t wrong. It was underwhelming in a way that seems almost intentional. It’s like they’re trying to break up with all of us (who once loved them) by blithely forgetting our birthday.

Debut feels refreshing, like the franchise has a new lease on life. Latest offering is tepid grey slop. The people behind it don't know what to do with it and don't seem to care to know either. Like the studio is consciously uncoupling from Star Trek rather than trying to do something with it.

The first Mass Effect has a really unique vibe in the series. Even aside from the cosmic horror of the plot, the bare bones and sterile open world evokes a haunting desolation. Most of that actually comes from the technical execution not quite living up to the ambition but it's still memorable.

When my bro received Mass Effect for Christmas, the game had completely flown under my radar. The prologue and the lore-filled codex motivated me to buy a 360. Mass Effect remains my personal favorite—flaws and all—for the sense of horror and impending apocalypse it evokes within a sci-fi mystery.

The emptiness of some of the uncharted worlds genuinely gives me chills, especially when you happen across unmapped and deserted structures or a corpse about which the game furnishes you with no explanation.

As someone who works for an American corporation you will not find a finer distillation of the Corporate America approach to things.

William B. Fuckley@opinionhaver.bsky.social

your strategy of actually solving the issue pales in comparison to my strategy of having meetings about it. fuck you!

Thankfully my team are completely non-American, so we avoid the dreaded meetings about meetings but meaningless trackers, KPIs and goals are inescapable, as is the tendency to repeatedly "study" and "consult" on things that the company doesn't really want to do, but wants to appear to want to do..

For a while, the company was dangling the possibility of transitioning to a four day week but this required endless studies and pilots, none of which amounted to anything. But yanking everyone back into the office after half a decade of successful hybrid working could be done at the drop of a hat.

Between 2021 and 2025, around 2 million cyclists passed the floating bus stops on Leith Street, Edinburgh, and around 5 million bus passengers boarded or alighted here. No injuries have been recorded. Over the same period, drivers injured around 600 Edinburgh pedestrians, killing 16.

It's definitely put in front of me because the algo knows my politics but the proliferation of Instagram accounts who's USP is giving tips on how to visit the Peaks, the Lake District etc without a car is quite cheering.

So much to unpack here, but at its core, it's the stubbornness of a Britain which cannot resolve the very clear conflict between (motor traffic) movement and place. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

They wouldn't be doing this (and outdoor brands wouldn't be partnering with them) if there wasn't an appetite for it. Politics and the media need to catch up.

Just checked and of course, the last time there was a Commons vote on this back in 2018, Badenoch voted against the proposals to decant and get on with the restoration of the Palace of Westminster, as the cross-party joint commission had strongly recommended.

There's obviously a serious point here, but it's quite funny optics for the Conservative party to complain that it used to be so much quicker to build a stately home.

Replacing every single Op-Ed writer in the United Kingdom with a one line ChatGPT prompt that asks for 600 words on why whatever just happened in the news means the government should immediately crack down on immigration, and possibly also trans people.

Alan Lester@alanlester.bsky.social

The riots are about education & the cost of living. Reducing immigration will not solve those embedded problems & restore “fraternity”. What is it with Phillips’ obsession about (implicitly Muslim) immigration? French riots show Andy Burnham his top priority www.thetimes.com/article/6610...
