The fact that a second strike like that in an armed conflict is definitely a war crime should not completely negate the fact that *there is no war* and ALL the strikes are cold-blooded murder. The whole chain of command are murderers.

I’m not saying “don’t get distracted” because if there is a consensus to call it a war crime then there could be some accountability in the near term. But let’s not forget the whole truth of what this really is.

Right, my hope is that we can use this as a wedge to get people on board with investigating *this* instance, and have that investigation hopefully also then dig into the question of was the first strike legal

I don’t think it’s legal, but I think this can be a hook that allows Republicans to force people under oath and to testify, and at some point the weight of evidence and legal analysis might push them to deal with the former fact as well as the latter fact

One reason for calling it a war crime, is the fact that the United States will not accept rulings from the ICC. But we ARE bound by the Geneva Convention which applies to any armed conflict. (To include these murderous acts.)

Aye, the first strike was 100% illegal in every metric, but the US likes to see itself as above inconvenient international laws like that, so that argument is harder to make land. The second strike was just cold-blooded and an invocation of no quarter. And that's easier to convince folks on.

Yeah, it's not a war crime, for the worst possible reason. (Also, the whole concept of JSOC, the war and non war crimes directorate, should be called into question)

Never forget, trump killed half a million Americans by denying covid - til he couldn't. Republicans twisted abortion until women & children died. People went nearly 2 months with no representation, some lost their healthcare & food, many went unpaid for weeks. GOP're murderers. Plain & simple.

Well, no, that would be exaggerated because of the "widespread" part of the definition of crimes against humanity. The scale is not big enough. Please compare with real convictions for crimes against humanity. Murder in first degree, of all 80 killed sailors.

What do you mean there is no war? You have very much been at war with Venezuela for decades. Your country runs an illegal blockade, an act of war. You've tried to assassinate their president and install a puppet a dozen times.

It’s bloodlust. And it was visible to his voters when he went on that death row execution spree during his final months in office. Absolutely horrifying that one like him is in charge.

My family had three generations of veterans. We didn't have a fourth bc in Trump 1.0 I told my son if he even thought about it, I would lock him in the closet til he was 50. I knew he was eventually going to misuse the military, they're just Green Army Men to him.

I agree. I do also want to say that murdering shipwrecked people is such an unambiguous war crime—it’s important. They attempt to obscure and cloud the truth and rationalize crimes, especially for RW info bubbles. Every unambiguous thing is important to help break obvious truths into those bubbles.

The US military has been killing (and double tapping) civilians all over the world for a long, long time. The people in charge used to put on long faces and calim to regret the "necessity" instead of reveling in the cruelty, true. But they ordered it all the same.

They are operating on an “opinion” on what the president can call a terrorist organization. They are reclassifying ordinary criminal activity as “terrorism”. This is squarely on the corrupt SCOTUS which is enabling this through its distorted judicial rulings not based on legal precedent.

Cant say then didnt know. That admiral knew. Following orders is not a defense. Watching these men for 44 minutes seeing them hanging to the side of their wrecked boat they were no threat. The whole chain has problems. Reminds me of Abu Grabe under W. Wtf

Well yeah but that's saying the quiet part out loud— they've served in the US military, of course they've murdered people or ordered murders. These murders are just being shared publicly because they expect no one can hold them accountable.

Once a person steps over the “line of the Law”, it’s much like coming thru the “fog of war”! There will be consequences when you see the light of day on the other side and accountability is there waiting on you!

Just to be clear, there doesn't need to be a formally declared war for something to be a war crime. War crime isn't even the formal name for what we usually refer to as "war crimes".

We have a president who is abusing his authority, Congress has not declared a war-thus he is complicit in the deaths of all of the people he ordered strikes on /or allowed his Dept of War to kill. Pardoning convicted drug Lords at home, while killing people in Johnny boats does not cut mustard.

From my article: The “war on drugs” is a metaphor for policy approach, not a legal declaration of war that triggers war powers or makes the law of armed conflict applicable. /a

Metaphorical wars do not override constitutional due process requirements or the lex specialis principle that drug trafficking is governed by law enforcement standards. /b

Thank you! Accepting this frame and using their invented terms like "narcoterrorist" just skips over the fact that THEY JUST MADE ALL THIS WAR SH*T UP bc doing the most depraved race/hate based terrorism at home & abroad for clicks, likes & memes is their whole reason for being.

This is what makes the US death squad war crimes different from 2025. The world is no longer pro American, in fact the planet is turning anti American.

Happening more frequently everywhere. The American president is really only highlighting how important money, greed, power and control is to all Americans. These days America are setting examples to all dictators and wannabes on how it is fine to be evil, as long as #America gets money from you.

And Admiral Brady and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs are both liars and are covering for Hegseth. I mean this sincerely! Just note that Admiral Holsey mysteriously and suddenly resigned, which led to Admiral Brady taking over the boat strikes. Hegseth found someone who would commit the crime!

Yeah the whole idea about "war crimes" is that it's supposed to be collateral damage during a war There was no war here Only crimes That makes these simple murder for no reason We have a president murdering people for no reason and pretending it's justified That's where we are

Yes! The strikes are nowhere near US territorial waters on boats not sailing towards our shores. Executions for offenses that are not even capital crimes. Acts of piracy on the high seas in violation of international law.

The king just declaring anyone a terrorist and then ordering the military to kill them is setting examples to the other 10 odd criminal countries of earth. #america

Kill them all is the first clue that this is total murder. In addition, there's no investigation or anything. They're just blowing them up for red meat for the crazy magas

Why so many of the Trump administration are using the ' illegal for government use'; app Signal to communicate. They are committing treasons daily and we are not supposed to know. Russell Vought at the very forefront ( where is Russell? )

If there's no immediate threat and there's no war, they end up justifying anything. ....and they did, just the second time *looked* a LOT more icky.

Still ashamed of America Murderers Sure and we will do nothing, why? Trump is a murdering pig Gop =guardians of pedophiles Fk gop Get pissed people RELEASE THE TRUMP/EPSTEIN FILES NOW Fdt terrorists Fdt terrorist scotus and judges and ag’s Fdt terrorist military Fdt terrorist federal agencies

Its not a war crime because “the war on drugs is an actual war”. It is a war crime because it was the US Navy that conducted the strikes.

Oil. $$$. Greenland grab was unsuccessful. This is about claiming Venezuela’s oil resource and we will always be sacrificed for $$$. Let’s see it and not waste time debating why, or which, law was broken. And let’s stop it— stop THEM.

Yes. It's premeditated as well. They try to make it sound like defense of others or country, but there's no reason they couldn't have tracked the boat, alerted Coast Guard or others for interdiction, and obtained actual evidence at that time. They planned to kill. I just don't understand why.

odd listening to all the debate about the "second strike" when All the strikes are murder. Venezuela isn't shipping meth' and it isn't clear how much of the drugs (cocaine) here are headed for the US. (and since when do sellers intend to kill their customers) Calling people terrorists to steal oil.

The Divided States of Amer. is committing MURDER on INNOCENT people …. DEFYING the laws of the UCMJ AND the Constitution !! WHY is this happening ?!! WAKE-UP Congress !!! Wake-Up America …….

You can't bomb a vessel in International Waters unless your ship is in imminent danger. Protocol is warn, board, search and arrest if called for. Protocol also calls for assisting those in distress. That doesn't mean a second missile. This is murder.

This has to me mentioned during any and all discussions. And they should be called out for the trick they play of tacking on "terrorists", which just happens to justify military response. I mean seriously, "drug runners" and "terrorists" are by no means the same thing.

Your point is insightful. Under international humanitarian law and relevant UN conventions, attacks on civilian vessels or non-military targets may indeed constitute war crimes. However, a precise assessment depends on the context of the attacks, the nature of the targets, and the responsible parties

The entire arguement about the legality of a second strike is just another Trumpian distraction. All the first strikes were blatantly illegal and that's not discussed anymore. They use the same plan over and over and it always works.
