I once sat down in a Chinese restaurant with my date, who was Chinese, and a waitress saw us from across the room and wordlessly sprinted over to shove a knife and fork in front of me. Some scars never heal. 😢

I have never once – to my knowledge – ever been on the receiving end of racism. I wonder how many non-white British of the same age (60) can say the same.

My house is on the flight path of a Hospital for incoming emergencies by air. As the helicopter circles to prepare for landing I stand perfectly still and offer a salute like a 5 star general honouring the latest casualty to be collected like I am in the jungle in Vietnam.

The abhorrent racism aside, Burnham is right that there is something quite desperate about Reform's recent activity. See also Zia 'white people are the biggest victims of racism' Yusuf's recent posts

Look, let’s not diss “I once banged someone from there”. If a strong centrist party emerges from the UK’s realignment, then this spurious connection gives me an “in” in six of what would likely be their safest seats.

If shock troops were firing tear gas at random people in Walthamstow all day then, yes, I do think I'd find it within myself to deploy the five or six clicks of a mouse that would be necessary to order a gas mask online, yeah.

Bondi: "It's extremely organized. The signs they have are all matching, they're well written. And look at what's happening today. How did these people go out & get gas masks? These protesters. Would you know how to walk out on the street and buy a gas mask? Think about that. We're not gonna have it"

I think the White House badly underestimates the strength of the pan-European folk memory of 1930s appeasement, and how deep it still cuts. I suppose this is what happens when you learn in school that WW2 started in 1941 in Hawaii.

Sums up how rubbish Badenoch is that she has been forced into a “You’re dumping me? I’m dumping you!” rather than just sacking and disbarring Jenrick over the many, many things that would have kept him out of any Tory Cabinet since 1968.

Spray paint a plane and they'll detain you without trial and call you a terrorist. Kidnap a foreign head of state - and Keir Starmer will make it clear we've played no part in it but will wait for the scheduled press conference in a few hours before potentially condemning it

Kidnapping the leader of a foreign state without any declaration of war and announcing it via social media is full-on rogue state stuff. From the world’s number one superpower.

Poverty is a policy choice. Concentrated wealth is a policy choice. Inequality is a policy choice. None of it is natural or inevitable. Remember: We have the power to build a system that serves the many, not the powerful few.

My dad abhors any negative comments about immigrants. Asked him recently why he’s so strong on it: ‘Because we’re always happy to take the rich and clever ones. Which means it’s not about disliking immigrants. It’s about disliking the poor and vulnerable. And that’s a bad human instinct.’

Reform's policy is mass deportations - but they're moaning about a larger number of people leaving the country? Are they sad that they won't get to lock them up and thump them first? It's much cheaper if they leave voluntarily! (also the main factor here is the *bigger* drop in numbers *arriving*)

Amjad Khan reposted

That is a huge drop. Huge. Starmer will now play the 'look-what-we-achieved' politics of this brilliantly, everyone will calm down, sensible immigration policies will emerge, and Farage will disappear. Narrator: 'Meanwhile on Planet Earth....'

NEW: Net migration falls sharply to 204,000 in the year to June. That’s a fall from 649,000 in the year to June 2024. It is a drop of nearly 80% from its 2023 peak.

If you have used a racist term and need somone with backward views to defend you, Nigel Farage is your man.

Nigel Farage asked about Reform MS Laura Anne Jones (who the Senedd Commissioner found had used a racist term in a staff WhatsApp chat in August 2023 while discussing TikTok writing: “No chinky spies for me.”) "Well, she used a word that colloquially, probably was meant in a nice way 20 years ago."

Our conversation about immigration is framed entirely on Nigel Farage’s terms. Labour has completely capitulated the ground to the far right, the racism & the hate. We no longer have a conversation AT ALL about how we need immigration & when we cut it, we pay the price. #r4today

Today we’ll get latest net immigration figures - They’ll show immigration for work is plummeting. Why is this not part of the discussion on Rachel Reeves balancing her books & stalled growth? For every 100,000 drop in net immigration, the OBR adds £7bn to the deficit. #r4today
