what happens next? what always happens. Paramount moves forward, and pays down the massive deal debt with massive layoffs, price hikes, and corner cutting resulting in lower quality products. At which point guys like Newsom, and other folks who pushed for settlement, will be nowhere to be found.

aside from general antitrust concerns, this was an opportunity for dems to take aim at the right wing propaganda and information warfare project, and as usual, they failed pathetically

They did not "fail pathetically." Newsom & leaders in California, who were afraid to lose a chunk of their media production business, failed--for the same reason universities & law firms did: money. People aiming like don knots around here, & it's getting tiresome. FYI, corporatism is your target.

2039!! Where did the money go? "The California High-Speed Rail project has morphed into a massive infrastructure fiasco, facing ballooning costs up to $231 billion, severe delays pushing completion toward 2039, and a looming cash crunch by 2027." Wait until the "real" budget numbers come out.

And don't forget he just tried to push through Praxis' Network State, California Forever, in Solano county by canceling any environmental regulations. He's a weasel. A rich weasel.

Anyone who can't decide that they can live without these products is deciding instead that they can live without their rights. Boycott the shit out of them. All of it. Ruin them.

Slimy Gavin strikes again always pretending he is fighting for the people while secretly bending the knee to his masters oligarchs, he is so gross

Hey moron, it’s Rob Bonta the Attorney General, who’s in charge of that negotiation not Newsom. Get your head out of your ass before you post stupid shit. Go out and touch some grass while you’re at it.

It was the people , all of us who go to movies, watch t.v. shows, subscribe to streaming services & buy the related products, that made these giant corporations what they have become- monopolies. We gave them power. We can take that power back. Unsubscribe. Seek out legit indie media.

So Little Karl? Who has probably never stepped foot in CA? Not sure you're up to speed on this one tiger. Let's not forget it was CA that led the initial lawsuit, right? This was going to happen either way but now there's at least some protections. Read a headline and scream, right sweet pea? Lame.

There's a difference between dealmaking & extortion. IMO this deal entails the latter. There's already great evidence of the damage they'll cause the industry. I see it clearly with them all the time, some very subtle. Then there's de-balling "60 Minutes" & everyone's seeing that!! #Rupe2pt0

How! TF did this happen? Where was the pushback? WTH?? We'll have to pay for everything! Watch and listen to what THEY tell us we can. How? What happened to anti-trust and 39% of US TV households??? There are laws! aren't there?? 🤷🏼‍♀️

This was an opportunity to honor the people's wishes. The majority do not want this merger. This is exactly the type of bullshit people are tired of. Caving to corporate fascism! Elizabeth Warren wants to break them all up and make them pay their fair share. It's past time for that! VOTE THEM OUT!

The least they could’ve done was to just sit on their hands til the trial and bleed the Ellisons for $7 million/day. The Dems couldn’t even do that. Hopefully they were well reimbursed for this humiliating charade.

The lawsuits would not have stopped the merger. Reducing the players by one wouldn’t make a monopoly. And if they did run to TN that would be pretty devastating to Los Angeles. It’s a shitty but probably the best. Tho the whole thing is going to implode within this time frame. Too much debt.

Why wouldn't he? He's the governor of California. The state where most movie studios are located. Newsom is trying to protect the actors and studios in his state.

This is going to be devastating for the working class film/TV industry folks here. My friends, my neighbors. Even if they don’t work for Paramount or WB, layoffs on this scale will affect everyone here.

Newsome, the current governor of California AND Becerra, the future governor of California While I'm still voting for him over some Republican fascist, know that THIS is where the Democratic leadership is, and how the next two years will play out IF we retake Congress. I.E. not much

The tech billionaires continue to strangle market competition, as intended. Consumers lose, propaganda wins. Going to be a sad irony when the Ellison's move Paramount/Warner out of California in spite of the capitulation from the AG and Newsom...after laying off thousands.

So not only do you know nothing about this issue, and nothing about Newsom (because you clearly don't live in CA), you're going to whine because...why? If I gave enough of a shit to look at your posts that's ALL I'd see right? Uninformed fee fees? To be seen, uh, "fighting" by losers? Lame dude.

this *should* have a measurable effect on how many liberals i have to argue with about how much of a shit Newsom is but honestly if they were still on the train after his first few podcast episodes they probably ain't getting off now, either.

I guess I wrote this just now…

WB: We're Giant PSKY: We're Goony Cast: We're all a little looney And in this courtroomy We're invading your TV WB and PSKY: We're toxic distorters Putin: We censor all reporters WB and PSKY: On Giant Goon Adventures It’s a gross monopoly!

The top Dems are captured, but they can be pressured. Popularism on the Right led to fascist Trump. Popularism on the Left should lead to free health care, more money to education versus the military and gun reform. It’s all about priorities.

Gavin Newsom also repealed the WARN Act during the pandemic so that corporations didn't have to pay workers during unannounced mass layoffs. Real Milton Friedman-style motherfucker.

And for what? Maybe to keep a few thousand jobs from leaving California, many of which may disappear anyway? I guess I shouldn't be surprised. I was already done with him anyway.

Agree. But, no one is breaking arms & making people pay the exorbitant prices associated with streaming & everything else. If only people understood that bending the knee & opening the wallet for these people is what makes them rich. 🙄

And sadly, both candidates to replace him would’ve done the same thing. CA is screwed because they see the state in competition with Texas and their “you can literally kill everyone and be welcome” laws.
