📢 1.96 is rolling out now (3/6) If you change your bsky.social username to your own domain, your old username will now be reserved for you! Only your most recent `.bsky.social` username is reserved, and it does not expire. bsky.social/about/blog/4...

Please make this work retroactively for people who already switched. When I switched to my own domain someone else registered my bsky.social domain which I had not realised would happen. It’s really frustrating. If bsky.social handles are reserved, it should be for every account on Bluesky.
After verifying with my domain, I created a new account with bsky.social username as a backup. Is there a way to merge the two, now?
You can't merge them, but if you want to associate the "reserved" handle with your main account, you can rename your backup account to something else (or delete it), then do a quick swap to-and-from the bsky.social handle on your main account, and that'll mark your handle as reserved.
The Bluesky dev team pushed a change this week to reserve your bsky.social handle when swapping to a custom domain handle, but it isn't retroactive. Can confirm that if you manually made a "squatting" account and go through the flow that @emilyliu.me describes here, it'll re-associate correctly!
There's no way this is being added 5 days after I mentioned wanting it. Best coincidence ever. bsky.app/profile/kyza...
I wish I could use a domain handle but have an @bsky.social handle as reserve. I have a domain but can't just give up the fancy 4 letter, and if I ever use and lose the domain I wouldn't be able to go back.
@dinosaurdracula.bsky.social I think you were wondering about this?
To be clear (cc @pfrazee.com ), does this mean that we can access our profile using the reserved bsky.social handle? Is that page effectively a redirect to our custom profile? Since it's not retroactive, I know I'll have to change my username back and forth a couple times.
@thehappywheels1.com and there we got our answer! So I guess change the username of your main back to the .bsky.app one and than chance it back to your domain.
@turtlebeach.bsky.social Now you have no excuse to not update your username to your domain.
looks like someone already took my old bsky.social name after i switched to my own domain. how do i get it back?
@support.bsky.team any advice for folks who already have a domain name account and are sitting on their old bsky. social username as a second account in order to reserve it? should I just keep doing that?
So, because we changed our bluesky name to our domain before this update, i had to go and manually re-register @coffeegeek.bsky.social again, and hold it as a placeholder. Is there a way to change that to "reserved" status instead?
That's great! And what happens if I already claimed my own domain as a username before this update? Is my initial bsky.social username (at the time of register) also reserved or do I need to create one again?
I changed my username to my own domain several months ago. Is my old bsky.social username reserved? How can I find out?
if we already use our own domain name do we get our old bsky.social name back?
meio que eu ja troquei e ja tem alguem com o lixtrix.bsky.social, entao eu perdi?
For those who already switched to domain, we would need to switch back to bsky.social username, then re-do the domain setup?
I could actually have read previous answers: bsky.app/profile/leon...
The former. bsky.app/profile/pfra...
too bad someone already stole my old bsky.social name. how do i get it back?
What happens if I changed my username before this change? I'd love to keep my old bsky.social username
Hi! We built bookmarks for bsky in the meantime. Keep the content forever, even if the author deletes. getdewey.co/bluesky/
@bsky.app Hoping the group direct messaging functionality might be on the roadmap too ? and images in direct messages ?😀
maybe if someone else didn't already steal it. i'm unable to switch back from my domain because someone else took my old bsky.social name.
But what if I have already done that? For instance for @wespenstichting.nl?
