MBA’s are a bunch of circle jerks that haven’t created anything other than a gig economy, the PayPal mafia and automated assistants on websites like Amazon. Mission statement: How to squeeze pith into cash.

The only one I remember from my (single) introduction to business class is that product quality doesn’t matter so much as long as you capture the Dutch porn market.

Less superstitions and more dogmas than anything. Trying to explain that unlimited ruthlesss greed has undesirable and negative results to people not nearly rich enough to get away with crimes is impossible as a result. Their dogma that greed is good blinds them.

w/apologies, Fiddler on the Roof: If I was Sam Altman Ya ba dibba dibba dibba dibba dibba dibba dum All day long I'd blah blah blah blah blah If I was like Sam Altman! (Hey!)

🤣 They want all the money, all the energy and all the copyright. Just so bob next door can generate his anime wifu with an actresses body. Yes, they are a very serious business lol XD

“Here at OpenAI we’re creating something new, something unprecedented. A fusion between a ponzi and a bubble. We’ve spent six months workshopping the name with ChatGPT and we’re calling it a ‘PonziBubble’”

This. . . This makes me indescribably angry a) pre-supposition of failure, and b) catastrophic short-sightedness coupled with absolute lack of knowledge what climate failure will entail.

They have invented a meaningless goal "agi" and put a dollar figure on it. They are treating us all like idiots. The scam is perfectly transparent. #aifraud bsky.app/profile/rahl...

Microsoft and OpenAI's definition for AGI has nothing to do with intelligence. They simply agreed they'll have reached AGI when they develop a system that can generate $100 billion in profit. Anyone still buying the AGI hype after this is officially a sucker. gizmodo.com/leaked-docum...

I too need way more money than anyone ever got before. I need it for products and services. ALL the products and services that support this podcast, even the Washington State Patrol. I'll buy it whole. I'll buy it all. With dick pills.

Nobel prize for his work in AI said: just leaving it to the profit motive of large companies is not going to be sufficient to make sure they develop it safely. The only thing that can force those big companies to do more research on safety is government regulation www.theguardian.com/technology/2...

I feel that many people aren’t really aware of the potential of ai research because their only interaction with it has been with cheap chat bots, or social media hearsay, or perhaps bad ai art slop. Serious AI is becoming a high speed lane for research, technological and intellectual progresss.

As someone who has incorporated ChatGPT to my development workflow, I have to say I have never been as productive. The reiterative process at my fingertips is hard to describe. I hope— no, I am counting on this industry to succeed with ethical regulation. Our future depends on it.

If anyone has any questions, feel feee to reach out and I will explain why models like o1 are as important as their seem to have become for professionals, scientists, philosophers and researchers. Ignore the causal user chatbot/picture past time. This technology will be crucial in our next milestone

Thanks for the alternative perspective. Examples of how you use it? Part of my business is producing disclosure for US SEC filings. AI helps us with first drafts. Improves productivity somewhat and we’d be willing to pay modest amounts for that But it’s not like a quantum shift for us.

Here's the deal: I'll help a business that is not openly stealing from me and other creators, and calling that an essential aspect of its business capital, while it also destroys the planet. Does that sound like your business? Thought not.

If this kind of behavior isn't remotely acceptable from your stoner roommate, how in the sweet buttery fuck do we allow them to play with potentially economy-ruining amounts of real money? I don't know anything about tech or finance and even *I* know this is fucknutz crazy!

Has he outlined the steps for changing structure? He would have to have the new company buy the nonprofit’s assets at market value and then donate the proceeds to a similar nonprofit, right? So he needs $157 billion more, I guess?

Yes, agreed. But I’m just talking about the legal entities. You’re not just allowed to say “we used to be a nonprofit but now we’re not”. All of the assets of the nonprofit have to be transferred to another nonprofit, so if the new for-profit company wants them, they have to buy them or something

Honestly no clue. To make it cost effective, maybe they could declare the first method didn’t work, rapidly devalue the existing company to pocket lint, then buy it for a song with a new company? You have a point though - how the heck can they do it (without just revealing the truth)?

they need that capital way more than regular people need it to buy homes or food, otherwise their mission of facilitating IP theft on a scale never before imagined will die on the vine

“listen, we’ve figured out it’s REALLY hard to make money doing this. now our business plan is ‘you give us a bunch of money and we outlast the other guys’ — hey where are you going?”

In posts on X, [Musk] described that effort as a “total scam” and claimed that “OpenAI is evil.” Wow, when your scam is obvious enough for Melon SKU to see it's a scam, it's time to pack it in.

“It was founded […] as a research lab focused on artificial general intelligence, or AGI, which was an entirely futuristic concept at the time.” My brother in Christ, it’s still an entirely futuristic concept. And synthetic text extrusion is not a step along the path to mechanical sentience.

Anyone with the slightest knowledge in psychology, biology, and philosophy will tell you the same lol, the burden of proof isn't on us, it's on the computer programmers making extraordinary claims without any backing

I think synthetic text extrusion is how humans think. The difference is that humans have other systems layered on top of the text extrusion feature that analyze the text for usefulness and accuracy, and discard text extrusions that aren't useful.

I think that's backward. Our ability to learn and invent language is layered on top of a bunch of much deeper and older systems, and it's these systems that actually make the language skills useful.

They're both true. Yes, language is definitely built on top of other systems, most obviously memory with which we build our vocabulary. But also: once created, our LLM runs amok just like chatGPT. The only difference is that we have overlayed filters, so we don't believe everything we think.

Thing is, a LLM *can* actually correctly answer a question, whereas cruise control can't ever actually take you to a destination. The problem is, an LLM can't understand that it answered the question incorrectly. It's the "make up an answer" aspect of intelligence, minus the objective analysis.

OpenAI in particular is one case where I'm willing to call it a cult. The nonprofit side (which, TBF, got shouldered out of the driver's seat by the money) is full of people who might as well be Roko's Basilisk cultists. Hyperintelligent AI is an article of faith, and they want to be its entourage.

It takes that abstract idea that a "great project" like creating a life-like AI that will (in a handwavy way) improve everything because if you don't think about it too much it can seem like the effectiveness is proportional to the cost and takes it to an absurd extreme.

In reality their efforts would have to be radically redesigned, and the ability (or even desirability) of such an AI is still far in the "trust us" territory. And losing that much money on what they've shown so far doesn't inspire confidence.

I still believe starting out as a "research" or "non-profit" entity was just a sly way to get a foot in the door for the thing they wanted to sell, to get ahead of competition and deflect criticism, and not because of any academic or public benefit reasons.

Top 5 greatest grifters of the modern era. It's wild to me that the hype he generates are about destroying the world or the middle class, both are equally good reasons to give OpenAI money. Give me more money that I've not returned on your investment in what is an obvious bubble.

Sam: "So, here's the plan. We don't have any use case where anyone would buy our software. So instead -- listen closely -- you all give us a lot, I mean really a shit-ton, of money. And keep it coming. Then -- then! -- there'll be more than we lose. Which is the definition of profit." Genius.

You’d have to be wondering as an investor, if the technology is actually going to create this wellspring of fantastic wealth and a bonkers Star Trek technology future, then why not wait for someone else to pay for it? Surely you don’t need to be the one to take that risk if it’s so certain to work?

If AI was so fucking brilliant, maybe they could ask it to come up with a better/cheaper plan. AI is like a modern plague, using the electricity of a small country to give incorrect information and Photoshop people with 6 fingers and 3 arms, whilst taking human jobs in the process.

Why is it that every dude who Peter-principled themselves into a mid-level manager position will sit down and tell me how incredible AI is? Like, they'll tell me these rambling stories about how they "trained" chatGPT to do their job that a) aren't true and b) don't sound as cool as they think.
