for my entire life i have simply never understood how anyone reading this can be convinced this is an antisemitic statement

AIPAC is a terrifyingly-powerful lobbying group. When Senator Clinton wanted something done and she didn't have the pull, she called AIPAC and it would just happen AIPAC has decided to bet on Trump, for now, and are trying to take their half of a Devil's bargain. www.nytimes.com/2025/04/07/o...

Both Palestinians and ethnic Jews are Semitic peoples. However, anti-Semitism is a word that specifically refers to hatred of Jewish people, even though they are not the only Semites.

It’s anti-genocide, not antisemitic. You’d think Israel, of all countries in the world, would be anti-genocide. It shouldn’t be a high bar to clear. (Of course the US also fails at this.) That’s why countries like Ireland that experienced attempted genocide by colonizers are also anti-genocide.

I see no " expression of hatred toward Jews", rather I see an expression of hatred towards the "actions" of the Israeli state against another. It's not antisemitic.

It's not antisemitic. It's anti dropping bombs on people, who live in the rubble, that's left of their homes, people whos ONLY fault is, that they live in Gaza. It is not antisemitism. It's anti Netanyahu and his war. Netanyahu is a jew, in the same way, Trump is a christian. When it pays off!!

This is a common tactic with genociders. It will nearly always be framed as self defense and actually you're the one doing violence to me. A good recent example is the buildup to the Rwandan genocide which was characterized by Hutu Power types as national self defense.

One darkly amusing thing here is that Kneecap are an overtly political Irish-language hiphop group who boast about drug use and "criminal" activity. They only got US visas because they're white and the Irish are assumed friendlies. If DHS had looked into them for 5 seconds it woulda been "hell no"

The thing is that there is so little information coming out of Israel that it is difficult to make conclusions if and to what extent do the Israeli support what is being done «  in their name ». There were protests and dissent there as well.

Israel has long put effort into ensuring that any criticism of its national policies are labelled anti-Semitic. Their logic is: Israel = the homeland of the Jews >>> if you stand against Israel, you're denying the Jews a homeland. Norman Finkelstein calls it weaponizing guilt about the Holocaust.

There are Jewish people who freely criticize Zionism and the Israeli state, and promote ending atrocities in Gaza against Palestinians. And there are also many who equate any criticism of Israel, Zionism, or the attacks on Palestinians as equal to antisemitism. The latter are oppressors.

"America is being run, overrun and destroyed by salivating power-hungry oligarchs and *their* corrupt officials, swept into power and supported by the under-educated masses they have brainwashed." In the same context, this is anti-Christian. I feel the same. You're not misunderstanding anything.

Actually, no, because Zionism is a colonial philosophy based in taking land away from people in Palestine. So it's not actually possible to believe that and not want to ethnically cleanse Palestine. Zionism is Nazism rebranded.

Yeah, it is amazing how everyone saying homeland means EXCLUSIVE RIGHT to a homeland. The most antisemitic message is the one of exclusive right to a homeland; thats what creates antisemitism to begin with, because no human have exclusive rights to any land anywhere.

A lot of people don't like the idea of an ethnostate. Regardless though, most anti-zionists actually mean they are against the current Israeli project: creating a 'homeland' through removing and slaughtering the inhabitants of an already populated area.

Zionists want to move European people into the Jewish homeland based on their religion, and anyone there is dirt under their bootheel. Why are they participating in Eurovision competitions if they are Middle Eastern? Because they are part of the white supremacist plan. Doesn't take a PhD to see it.

It isn't not there are people who believe if you support Palestine or is people against the atrocities of Israel, you are. A friend of mine who is Jewish attacked me when I said I support Palestine against the atrocious of Israel like killing innocent people and kids in hospitals and schools

It's because the message hasn't landed clearly on their readership with enough evidence that this is a genocide—which it is. They are unaware of the scale of destruction, the head shots on children, the choices that are being made by Israel.

The readership thinks the violence is mostly misattributed. They think any fire is from a missile launched by Hamas that fell short. Many do. They think that images are old, or are of children killed by Hamas. Some are. They see the hatred of Israel, and aren't aware of the genocide.

The first two sentences are statements of fact and are not. The latter two are sometimes calls for violence. Like, if you want Israel to not be doing horrific violence, no one will think you just want to see horrific violence to instead be done to Jews. But a lot of people do want that.

A whole lot of you use that kind of language to call for massive violence against Jews. It's hardly on us to read your minds and figure out which of you saying the same things mean us harm and which ones don't. We can't risk it, y'all kill us way too often.

You are correct. Criticizing the State of Israel and its actions is distinct from antisemitism. It is complicated since support for the State grew out of the reaction to the Holocaust. So support for the State and revulsion of antisemitism being entwined.

Semantic drift is real, words mean what they are used to express. Anti-semitic needs an added dictionary definition as "opposing genocide or war crimes" exp "hip hop trio knee cap won the nobel peace prize for the anti-semitic work opposing the genocide and ethnic cleansing in Israel and Palestine"

“Opposing human rights atrocities is antisemetic” Is this meant to garner our support? Incomprehensible Zionists are blood-soaked maniacs honestly

The Northern Irish resistance were not 'nationalists', they are patriots, antifascists, antiracists and friends of all oppressed people. They are the honour of the Irish people and why people around the world love them.

This has gone further back. I remember back in the early 2000s the same issues when Israel was blocking off the coast. There is a different between a Government and a Religion that needs to be separate

That's not antisemitic at all. Nothing bad is said about the Jewish people. Many Moslims, Christians and non Jews were born in Israël. Jews aren't the problem, Netanyahu and his monsters are the problem. I know many Jews that are disgusted by the genocide taking place in Gaza.

"Anti-semitism" was a name made up by European Jew haters to make their hatred of European Jews sound better to them. Everyone knows that "Anti-semitism" is hatred of Jews, specifically.

honestly... at this time if they are defining anti-semitism this way, then fuck it. I'm an anti-semite. And all the other jews who are standing up for Palestine are anti-semites as well. The whole world is anti-semitic! Let's dilute the term so it no longer holds value.

As others said, there are people who equate criticism of the country of Israel with the Jewish people. That's how that message gets interpreted as antisemetic. It's one of my personal pet peeves. The country of Israel is not above criticism and people who criticise it are not antisemites.

It implies Palestinian Liberty depends on Israel. The Palestinian's in Gaza are under siege by Hamas. Note, the Palestinians in West Bank (controlled by the PA) aren't under siege. It also assumes the writer is only focused on freedom for Palestinian's; and ignores other conflicts.

Absolutely nothing anti-Semitic about it. But the Israeli Government has managed to conflate Israeli political extremism with Judaism. They are not the same. Religion and politics are completely different matters. Israeli genocide in Gaza is a reality. The murder of Gazan paramedics is depraved!

I honestly have no idea how it will evolve. I know there are many Israelis who abhor what is being done in their name. I believe that the nexus in Israel's evolution happened when the hand of sharing and caring was either never extended or extended, rejected and withdrawn. Persistence was needed.

They don’t just think it, there are benefits they want very very badly, that convinces them to “think” whatever will get those benefits. It’s not normal thinking, it’s bending the knee of the mind & kissing an ideological ring.

As a Jew who agrees with the statement in principle, it would be so helpful to this cause if the rage focused on Netanyahu instead of Israel. “Fuck Israel” in any context is going make most Jews uncomfortable, even those of us who mouthing the words.

2/2 and intimidate speech critical of Israel, and is by-and-large effective. Unfortunately, it dilutes clouds the matter of actual antisemitism, so popular with the white nationalist rightwing and extremist circles.

Naming criticism of Israeli policies “antisemitism” which no one can deny is very very bad, having led to industrialized genocidal murder of 6M Jews and 5M others along side them. Including “the rise of criticism of Israeli policy” with “the rise of antisemitism” in general is done to silence 1/2

The majority of Democratic pols agree with this sentiment. And the 118th Congress, in a non-binding resolution, outright said anti-Zionism is antisemitism with bipartisan support.

Let’s go back to UN resolutions, go back even further. Time for truth! Jewish people deserve peace too! Reminds me of the Netflix novela, the Sephardic in Iberia. Get a grip, better have al-andalus than religious lies! They all failed in History class, because it’s still not Universal!!! Babels.

Semite, derived from the Hebrew word Shem (one of Noah's sons) refers to ancesrors of the various peoples of the middle east. These include both Arabs and Jews. The term anti-semitism derives from misuse of the word semite to refer only to Jews.

I think maybe the key to the whole narrative is saying lies unapologetically over and over again until it’s stamped into everyone’s brain that any criticism of the Israeli government = antisemitism

Too many Israelis can't see themselves as the oppressors, because they only see themselves as constantly oppressed--which, in their minds, justify their actions. And yes, I agree - they ARE committing genocide. I support American Jews. I'm married to one. But I no longer support Israel.

this has been their misdirection for years now (as if Republicans have always been big friends of the Jews) - they pretend that any criticism of the Israeli state is anti-Jewish bigotry, which of course is BULLSHIT. But it does help them distract from the underlying reality, which is that the right

Antisemitism is required to be a Zionist. You're taking as a given the idea that Jews and Gentiles can't live together peacefully, and that the solution is to move the Jews elsewhere.

Important to remember that evangelicals believe that Christ won’t return until the Jews are all re-settled in Israel, at which point any Jews that don’t convert to Christianity will be sent to Hell.

Which is interesting because to claim that criticism of Israel is inherently antisemitic requires the use of the dual loyalty trope, which is... in and of itself antisemitic by implying that all any Jew cares about is Israel.

This likely under-reports the levels of anti-Semitism, and - to repeat - any number of anti-Semitic incidents above zero is unacceptable, as are all forms of discrimination. But I'm just not sure there's actual evidence to suggest Ireland is a hotbed of anti-Semitism compared to elsewhere. 2/8

Unless, of course, you are conflating support for Palestine with anti-Semitism. This is something the current Israeli government tries to push and was the position of the Israeli ambassador to Ireland prior to the embassy closing (in response to Irish recognition of Palestinian statehood). 3/8

Israel is run by a crook. He's just like trump. Are all Jewish people like that. No. Are all Americans trumpers. No. Ireland is having significant trump like troubles right now. That was not an antisemitic statement. What's happening in Gaza is no better than what is happening in Ukraine.

I mean there are 90 political parties in Isreal and the most left wing ones idea on how to deal with Palestinians is literally "don't rape them to death in public, do it privately"

Well, we have people "fighting" antisemitism while displaying their fascist tattoos and clothing, so They're projecting their own antisemitism onto the projection. lol Good lord, it's like we live in constant The Onion headlines, and it's both funny and frightening.

Because the greatest and most inexcusable form of antisemitism is opposition to the Israeli government, which many actual antisemetic people... *checks notes* support? Huh, that's weird. Oh, it's because they want all the Jews concentrated there for some reason.

Apparently ANYTHING negative is now antisemitic. Even quoting negative events in the Bible such as Jacob screwing over his brother Esau is antisemitic. Enshrining any group as holy untouchables is a road to more hell.

Pro genocide is now Pro Isreal. Now Trump and RFK Jr are starting to purge Americans. Today Trump said he spoke with Netanyahu and they both agreed on EVERYTHING. Soo.... Autistic Person List Tattoo List University Capitulate or be eaten All very Authoritarian tactics Hitler did this too

Every moron who yelled “genocide Joe” owns this. They own the current atrocities in Israel under Trump’s greenlight. Hell they owned the dead. They are going to manifest in Africa when 25 million people die of aids over the next decade. It was an act of shortsighted political suicide.

Not a Jew. - but a statement calling out “Israel” instead of Netanyahu unnecessarily feeds the folks who are co-opting the use of “antisemitism.” When trump decides to tariff everything - we don’t say The United States is tariffing everything. We blame it on the person doing the deciding.

I like your comment because it’s so from right field. (Not literally.) I agree 100% with YOU. Netanyahu is the criminal. He’s the cause of the war crimes. Anything else you took from my comment - I’ll assume is because of bad writing on my part.

Diasporic Jew over here. The reason why we say "Israel" instead of Netanyahu when discussing the genocide but not "America" instead of Trump when discussing the tariffs is because the genocide predates Netanyahu's regime by more than a half century.

Genocide against Palestinians is the foundation the modern state of Israel is built off of, perpetrated by paramilitaries like the Haganah and Irgun who were combined into the IDF by the State of Israel mere weeks after it's creation in 1948. You cannot separate Israel and the genocide.

whether or not that’s true, conflating all jewish people with israel is similar to saying that china represents all chinese people. it’s antisemitic to claim that the genocidal actions of an apartheid state (israel) somehow benefits all jews or that all jews want that to happen.

I was literally talking about the same exact thing yesterday and the person commented on my post inferring I was a Nazi before blocking me bsky.app/profile/puff...

Actually you're being antisemitic by conflating criticism of a country bombing innocent civilians with being tied to Jewish identity. I'm not jewish but Jewish Voice for Peace and many others are vehemently against the US kidnapping and shipping Pro-Palestine protesters to El Salvador.

There are only two types of people who conflate Zionism with Judaism, those who hate the Jewish people and want to demonize them by connecting them to what Israel does, and the Zionists themselves who want to legitimize what Israel does by hiding behind the Jewish people.

I'm going to steelman this: 1: the simple fact that for Jews the continued existence of the Israeli people and state is not treated as a settled question but rather as one much of the world would rather like to answer with a decisive "no, wipe them out root & branch like we tried other times"

2: Given that context - stakes so often framed not as condemnation of a government or a policy but rather of the entire EXISTENCE of a historically fragile polity & its almost half of all Jews worldwide - "fuck Israel" as opposed to "fuck the Israeli government" can register as exterminationist.

3: This is typically contrasted with, say, the fact that nobody seriously thinks the PRC and its people will be exterminated by any power on this earth, but Jewish ethnic cleansing & attempted extermination are a historically common occurrence & remain the stated goal of many of Israel's foes.

In this the antizionist movement is a victim of the rhetorical intensity of its adherents. They sort of rely on the idea that people believe that they aren't really serious when they say "from the river to the sea Palestine will be Arab!"

I think the issue people who love Jewish people and hate Israel (like me!) have is not the existence of the state but the state of its existence. Watching the cycle of abuse playing itself out in genuinely horrifying ways.

There were a ton of Jewish people protesting the abduction and rendition of Mahmoud Khalil. I don't think they'd find that statement antisemitic at all.

According to Netanyahu Ireland is antisemitic as it recognises the Palestinian state. Netanyahu is a warmonger and he dehumanises Palestinians. He is eradicating the Gazan population. If calling that out is antisemitic then he does a disservice to Jewish people and those murdered in the Holocaust.
