Y'all remember those rage bait cooking videos where a woman will pulverize dry pasta into a powder and then make "homemade" pasta out of the powder and then she doesn't cook it all the way through but she pretends it's good and then the video ends? Yeah, dunno what made me think of that just now.

I never imagined a world where people would pay $5 a month to *remove* em dashes. That's not evolution. That's a f***ing disgrace. Oh, yeah, I never thought we wouldn't be able to use that formulation, either.

It's a confidence game! The first hustler is an "AI detector" that says whatever you submit is AI. Its partner is an "AI obscurer" that pointlessly edits your stuff. You resubmit that stuff to the first one who says, hooray, this is 100% human! But it only "detects" one thing—the second one's work.

Lemme just say that I've really been amused by your trajectory on this. Because you were always against it! From the start! But you used to be a bit more couched/reserved, and then you (like the rest of us!) have just steadily lost patience and are now "working so hard to avoid work!" bit.

My favorite is when I get a news blurb in my feed that ends with, "information collected by Ai. Might not be accurate." Then what tf are we doing here? I too, can do a half assed job on my own, thank you.

As a laugh I put one of my articles through an academic 'AI Spotter'. Fcuk my old boots! I was apparently 60% AI. So I put the same piece through the recommended 'AI Stripper tool' to humanise my work which was...powered by AI. Does anyone want to buy a Tulip or a a Sub-Prime Mortgage?

So...this isn't a joke? Because that would make sense. This looks like a clever SNL fake commercial. It should be. Please say this isn't real. And also, mean it. Please. For the love of Chaucer. TELL ME IT'S A JOKE

Aside from this being dumb as hell this pokes a personal pet peeve: I find branding that people are going to struggle to write correctly because of weird spelling or capitalization. I hate everyone involved in this.

A not terribly clever branding, but with ChatGPT's "strawberry"/"blueberry" spelling woes, seems more like a tell signaling indifference to language -- what it means and how some of us still use it SINCERELY (actual meaning/spelling) to explore and express what it means to be human.

Just insane. Using an LLM to write prose is like over-processing a singer’s performance with Auto-Tune and quantisation to knock out all the pitch nuances and rhythmic grooves. And then sticking this on top is like adding bum notes and timing fumbles. Still an impersonal robot, but now a shit robot.

I know intentional mis spellings in brand names have been a thing since the days of the sooper market, but in this specific instance it really seems to imply that by “un-ai” your writing what they really mean is introduce spelling errors at random.

This stuff drives me crazy. We're a goddamn social species, and the way we construct our communication with each other is what makes us unique. Our vocabulary, the way we construct sentences and natural pause points for emphasis, etc. Even for a work email, I can't imagine giving my voice away.

I do not understand why so many people will do everything and anything NOT to write a book when they say they want to write a book. Writing the book is the best part! It's like playing with lil guys in a way you can share with other people!

Hey, don't drag people into this who "plan on writing that book, I swear, this is the year" but just can't commit. We have nothing to do with these AI slop-goblins.!

It’s not about the act of writing a book, but about whatever they think being an author of a book is, or should be, and more likely than not it has no basis in reality, like at all ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

That's fine! My first books sucked. My first current first drafts still suck. You can always rewrite and improve them. Most of all, one improves with every word they write. You learn from doing. I just dusted off a book I've been trying to write since 2007 or so & am taking another crack at.

Then write your "poorly written" book. Because shoving it through the slop machine still gets you a poorly-written book, but one with your voice algorithmically removed from the pages.

I wasn't saying I would use or wanted to use AI. I wouldn't use AI just to say I have written a book, it would not be"mine" for one and two I agree, AI would still equal a poorly written book, garbage in = garbage out.

when *I* do everything I can to avoid writing, I do things like "learn how to use QGIS so I can input a map, conform it to lat/longs, and measure travel times ACCURATELY... instead of just writing the next part of the damn fic" no YOU take dragon age fic too seriously

See, that is the proper way to avoid doing everything one can to write. Sometimes one's brain just needs time to learn other stuff and that's OK. You're not being lazy, just learning more stuff. Using an AI Slopmachine to squirt something out and claim to be a 'writer' is just lazy.

And it's technically still working on the fic! it just. doesn't result in writing any words. ... and now I'm playing video games instead of writing but THAT is because I don't have a deadline, lol

The wild thing is they're so ignorant of the writing and publishing process that they don't understand very few writers even make 'passive income' from their books! So they're just wasting energy! D:

I mean, if you're gonna write a book at least do it for yourself first. There's zero guarantee it's going to earn any money. So, have FUN WRITING IT. You can't have fun letting an AI slopmachine squirt something out. It sounds boring!

Well nothing wrong with being "the idea guy" in on itself. Some people are not cut out to be writers or artists, doesnt make the ideas invalid tho. In this respect AI would be a way to get the ideas out in the wild without the stress of spending years learning how to write/draw.

I mean hell if AI was a better technology I would probably be using it for writing more often, not out of laziness or lack of creativity but as an avenue to get my ideas out there a bit faster. Not pro AI of course, but when people say a picture is worth 1000 words they mean it.

Yo, dawg, we heard you like to use AI to steal valor and pretend to be a writer. So we put an AI in your AI to make you sound less like a poseur. Here at Poseurs Are Us, we're learning new things every day. Come see us. (holds up gleaming tube of Nothing.)

I use Organic intelligence. You don't need a data center. Or a computer. Organic Intelligence is so deeply cool, you can generate profoundly disturbing and life-altering content in a fleabag apartment building with a notebook and a pen. I am the cover model for this product. O.I. changed my life

Shades of "Sneetches" to me. Star belly Sneetches vs. Sneetches with no stars upon thars The cycle of putting stars on bellies, taking stars off bellies, and the only person benefiting from this is the businessman whose machine is used....

I think people just like to put themselves in a supervisory role by endlessly micromanaging an AI model.

I just saw an ad for an AI that “humanizes” written copy produced by other AI models. So now we have so little time to copyedit that we're willing to accelerate AI resource depletion in the name of convenience?

I can't even figure out what it would do, based on what I've seen people list as tells for AI writing. Maybe it removes all the emdashes? But a lot of it is just due to how LLMs work. Another one isn't going to work differently enough to catch stuff.

My bf was explaining to me that a lot of these assholes treat badly written emails as a weird macho power move, like an over-hard handshake or shoe inserts. It's some kind of flex demonstrating that they don't feel the need to care about "details" or legibility like some worker pleb

Probably right for a bunch of rich people to whom business is as much a game as anything else. And I pointed out when people were discussing the Epstein emails, these CEOs would have assistants and lawyers for any real official business communication, these guys do their business through talk

The opinion is gaining traction, yeah.

“Many were increasingly of the opinion that they’d all made a big mistake in coming down from the trees in the first place. And some said that even the trees had been a bad move, and that no one should ever have left the oceans.” - Douglas Adams

I use LLMs to write one important thing: my twice-a-month reports to the investors of what I did in the last sprint. They *want* to know their people have drunk the Flavor-Aid and that they're gung-ho about LLMs.

Would love some input…I manage a team of content specialists who write newsletter content for me. They receive full credit. What are people doing when others claim to have written something in a professional setting but it wreaks of AI? Confront? Create a policy about how to use it? Ban it? Thanks.

TIL that "Sinceerly" could mean done in the manner of Sinceer, one of the "villains" on Favor Flav's "Flavor of Love." Of course I'm not joking. It's 2026. Kinda hope she sues.

I talked to someone who said AI had made their life so much better because it takes the stress out of writing an email. But it turns out they're spending more time promp engineering the shit to be perfect and also natural sounding.

I asked if they meant for long formal emails or just any random reply to a coworker and they said everything. They also said theyd have an anxiety attack or something if they couldn't use ai since they've forgot how to write

When I said maybe it's bad that they're so addicted to AI they got very defensive and said due to their anxiety it's actually a matter of accessibility and it's avleist to assume everyone can comfortably express themselves in writing.

The value proposition of AI for most workers is: Carefully instruct a forgetful mimic to do something you have specialized in for years. After several tries it might give you something close enough that you can fix over a couple of hours.

"They said Musk was a genius at cars, and I believed them. They said he was a genius at rockets, and I believed them. But I know tunnels, and when they say Elon is a genius at tunnels, it makes me doubt his genius at cars and rockets."

My team were told to use AI generated voice for some English language resources. But it butchered pronunciation on some words including simple ones like "March" and our staff had to waste time finding exactly the right phonetic spelling to give the prompt to get the AI to say it right

We used to just read it and it would be recorded straight into the computer as an audio file. And that's just one of the easy words that it kept saying as "marsh", we're teaching English in Australia so there's place names and animals and pronunciation that needed to be spelled out phonetically

sure, it makes scripting code functions slightly easier, but it also makes fraud a click-boom snap. i’ve seen three different websites impersonating my employer pop up over the weekend with clearly AI-written text.

If I spend any substantial amount of time writing an email, it's more that I've had to investigate something, lay out what I found or make a coherent argument in the email and make sure all details and wording are correct, and ask questions for what needs to be followed up. I won't trust that to AI

Plus in the time it took to write out a prompt to copilot with all the details to be included, I may as well write the damn email myself. The emails I would trust to AI take no time to write (e.g. "I'll look into that and get back to you by COB") so why bother with copilot

It can be quite hard, actually. The amount of time I have to put into writing replies without swearing and trying not to make the recipient feel like a doorknob because they didn't actually read what I wrote previously to try to clarify their original nonsense could quality as a whole other job.

An AI to make you sound more human? How is that supposed to work? Why bother when I'm already more human than the AI to begin with? What new level of hell is this?

FWIW, it’s satire. A bit too close to reality and altogether too believable, but it is satire (according to its author when asked directly).

Recently had the sad experience of having to make funeral arrangements. A relative volunteered to 'write' something for the announcement. They spent ~45 minutes prompting ChatGPT. After, my siblings & I still had to do a near total re-write. TLDR: Fuck gAI entirely & horizontally without lube.

It was one thing, in the electronic era, when they quit teaching kids how to write in #Cursive. Keyboards rule, okay? But if we're giving up on teaching young people how to express themselves in prose? That's like saying writing isn't a valuable skill. For humans. fuck that noise

You wanna know how naive I am? I read this and thought to myself, "oh! People can use this to make sure their own writing doesn't get confused with AI. I don't love it, but okay..." No, Katie. People use AI. Then try to... Un-AI it...

I secretly hope these are just some folks taking the piss on AI and grabbing as much cash from venture capitalist morons as they can before they pull a fade.

So instead of using a computer to disguise the fact that one is a lazy idiot, one can now use a second computer to remove all doubt.
