people pretend to not be nazis and couch that in dog whistles but i think a reality we have to contend with is that there are so many, many, many incredible ignorant people out there

I have a coworker who didn't know what "authoritarian" meant. So naturally as a led in I mention Nazis and they dead ass did not know who and what they were. This is a grown ass adult with 4 kids. The Unite States education system has been in SHAMBLES for a long time.

I don't know where you're from or your background, but I regret to inform you this is just the result of the overburdened and underfunded public education system in Appalachia. People fall through the cracks all the time, particularly if you aren't at bare minimum an average student.

I’m kinda wondering how long the shooter was going by Roberta now because if they determine it was around the same time that they started planning the shooting I would not be surprised if the MAGA chud was pretending to be transgendered in order to try and get people to target trans people.

A huge and mostly unspoken foundational issue contributing to the rise of fascism in this country is that conservatives are largely (not exclusively) just a collection of the dumbest, most anti-intellectual people on the planet, and are therefore the most susceptible to propaganda and bigotry

In an effort not to be ignorant myself, may I ask what the source of this picture is? I haven't yet seen any news reports showing pictures of the shooter where you can see tattoos

It's because the same people who lie and pretend to know things regurgitate quotes from other dipshits who also lie and pretend to know things. A vicious cycle of consuming simple easy to read baboonery

The real shame is that prevaricating in this manner should make Real Nazis say "what are you pretending about, worm, are you with us or not?" I'd think it would be considered very disrespectful by loud and proud Nazis.

“not everyone you dislike is a nazi” rhetoric has gotten so bad that when people marched through indianapolis carrying a literal nazi flag the NEWS did not refer to it as a nazi march

The most unexpected benifit of following the podcast is the crystal clear mental image of how statements with this many exclamation points would be said on recording.

The propaganda is really working. You see a lot in the anti vaccine movement too. Plenty of people genuinely do not know what vaccines are or how they work or what the diseases they prevent are like.

I genuinely don’t think anything gets solved unless we can admit that a lot of people in this country are extremely stupid. Like we have to come to terms with that. I always hear “people are smart, they know when you’re talking down to them” if that’s true, then that’s the only thing that they know.

I was just walking through the airport a few weeks ago, and I saw an honest-to-God totenkopf just displayed on some guy's arm, meaning A) he was either totally ignorant of what it meant or B) felt proud and secure enough to display it, neither of which made me feel very good

"Never believe that anti-Semites are completely unaware of the absurdity of their replies. They know that their remarks are frivolous, open to challenge. But they are amusing themselves, for it is their adversary who is obliged to use words responsibly, since he believes in words.“ (cont…) - Sartre

I think the majority of the rw believes that the only thing that qualifies you for being a modern-day Nazi is to literally stuff people into ovens. As if that ultimate evil wasn’t preceded by some very specific actions and ideologies.

(I may be biased, but the only acceptable way to have any Nazi imagery in a tattoo is if there is somebody beating a Nazi, and even then it's best to avoid the symbols. Like, for example, if you're a giant comic book nerd and you wanted an early Captain America cover on your arm or something. )

"Grok, tell me about how the Nazis were left-wing socialists." *Tells them they became far-right-wing fascists as soon as they took power* "No, you're wrong." These are the people (I hope) that Grok will kill first when it becomes self aware and begins its human genocide.

Yeah anyone who does "@Grok" to non-ironically prove a point isn't engaging in good faith. Fuck that jackass, that's the collar insignia of Nazi death squads overlaid with the Totenkampf they wore on their hats. The only nazi tattoo that is more obviously nazi related is a plain black swastika.

The worst part of all this? The media has really used this to attack trans people, make them sound dangerous. Like the people writing these smear pieces should be charged for hate crimes and be forced to pay some HEFTY reparations.
